    Fabulous.
Is this the same as the Carthage in Rome II, or is it done entirely from scratch?
A bit. It is made from scratch using the Rome 2 imported models.

I do think we'll scrap the sails idea as it's not realistic. I spoke really before I knew enough about naval warfare.

The sails do look better, but in game they would have realistically be raised. CA was right on that.

Yes your right about that they sould be raised, Because when in battle you don't want the enemy to set your sails on fire!.

But what could be a possibility is having transport ships with sails up and battle ships with sails down.

Maybe but Im not a huge fan of the huge transport ship, nor do I think them very realistic.

Perhaps a submod to not have sails raised during battle? If that is at all possible

I'm drooling just at the thought of Mathemedic's video, let alone the actual map.

    Awesome!

Although I noticed that the AI tends to rush out a lot. Do you mind adding in onagers for the Romans at least so we can break the walls?

I'm not complaining, but should the land around Carthage not look a bit less barren and more farmable?

I have question regarding naval combat.

The Athenians were noted for their light and nimble ships, with an emphasis on speed & agility rather than robustness.

How did they manage to sink enemy ships when they were so much lighter than their foes?
It canīt be that they always aimed at the oars as we so often see in modern movies.

To me there are a few possible conclusion:

    • The Athenians used their lighter ships to repeatedly attack and retreat until the structure of the enemy hull collapsed.
    • The bronce beaks had higher penetration power than usually shown in Rome 2 and Atilla
    • They actually favoured ranged combat (universal ship sizes of classical greece would make this easier)

For me the most likely one would be a combination of all the first and third.
But then again, I can also imagine that against similar and smaller ship sizes ramming would be more effective than melee combat.

    Whatīs your take on this?

BTW, are there hitzones on ships? Itīs way easier to penetrate a straight wall than a curved one, so logically speaking, the side of a ship should be more vulnerable to ramming...

    Best regard

I wish there were hit zones on the ships as I very much agree but I dont think there is. The fact of it is a little different. Rams werent used like they are in game, the aiming at the oars thing did happen (at salamis I think) but mostly rams would penetrate the hull but then once removed water would poor in. In this sense its less damage done to the vessel and more distracting the crews on board. The lighter ships could easily outmanouvre the larger ones and so would be able to ram the enemy vessels more often, but have a higher consequence if hit by a larger vessel.

A little nitpicky question... Will the earlier Roman ships have the same rectangular shields along the sides?

Every update you post raises my anticipation by 100%.
