    Default [Mod Idea] Choose the heir

    I posted a mod idea yesterday, but I thought of another one. Some times I do not accept adopted sons for the king or prince, as they will end up being prince/king later on and I want only true flesh and blood heirs. I just think it would be cool if you could still adopt sons and stuff, but just be able to make it so you choose who the heir to the throne will be so when the King or prince's sons grow up, one of them can be the heir.

    Or if there is a general you really like and want to be the king/heir, you can make it that way!

    I know not much about modding, but that sounds like something that might be easy to do, I do not know. Still just an idea though

    This problem is as old as time, and no, it's not an easy fix. It is not possible with the game engine.

    The only thing the game can allow is for you to choose the next faction heir, or the one that comes after the current one. This is done via an ancillary such as the Privy Seal or Heir Crown, the former of which is present in Stainless Steel if I remember correctly. It bumps up the traits of your desired next faction heir, but he only becomes faction heir when your king or heir dies.

    Actually that is kind of what's being asked. When you're playing the game there's 1 king and 1 heir already, at all times, unless something got screwed up. There's an ancillary, usually made as an heir crown, orb, seal, or the like in mods, but you can call it whatever you want, and what it does is give a big Authority bonus to the character, so the game will pick them as the replacement heir when either the current king or heir die. With that, you can adopt as much as you want and keep giving the current heir's son the ancillary. It can work with any mod, and most popular mods already have a version made for them. Theoretically you could even use it to have regents, adopted or extended family members as king/prince while the true next in line comes of age, then send them on a suicidal charge with the proper bloodline heir having the ancillary.

    I think the crucial difference is that you can't change the heir. Presumably, people want to change the current heir so that he doesn't become king at all.
