    hello everyone,

    I had an idea for a mod, its a mix up between modern day and medieval times
    it will have approx ~7 campaigns

    the map would be the actual map of today ( without isis etc, we could put some extra rebels in that area or leave that matter)
    I though every continent could have its map ( if it had enough countries, thus North America and Australia could be hard, however we could just add those to South America and Asia)
    and there would also be an campaign including the whole world
    the Units would be Medieval though ( ofcourse USA would have a strange combo of Spanish/English/French units but we could use regional recruitment for that
    )

    I saw this whole world mod the other day, set in the 16th and 17th centuries. You may be interested in it.

    But I'm thinking 2015 though not 1500-1600

    I can understand why it wouldn't appeal

    I don't know how well the Modern World would work in Total War, let alone in the Medieval 2 engine.

    The med2 engine can handle this

    It is very powerful

    If you were to make this undertaking, perhaps you could use their map.

    Good luck. If you get this done it will be very interesting to see what you can achieve.

    I like the idea, but I don't think combat would be that great since armies don't fight in formation anymore, and it would be hard to implement tanks and aircraft.

    I'm not planning on implementing tanks and aircraft's

    It's modern borders with historical units ( thus England would have longbows, etc)

    Question for you all:

    Should I make countries rebel ( like make Irak rebel as there's no real government anymore etc and maybe Somalia due to their pirates ( however the pirates could also be a reason to actually make them a faction for naval superiority or whatever)

    So yeah

    What do you think?

    Not sure why you'd want to set it in 2015 with medieval units. Google a mod on here called hiddenflame, it has a range of SAS, Army Rangers, and Spetsnaz units with fully automatic assault rifles and sniper rifles. We also know artillery and mortars are doable, and even tanks have been done in Med2. For a good example of a tank and some fun direct and indirect artillery, check Call of Warhammer. And check out Planet War for another showcase of what the engine allows. It's all mostly dealing with animations and using the elephant unit class for things. Oh, check out The Sundering or Akthross for some passable flying units. It's entirely possible to have close air support with machine guns and rockets and even air to air combat, if you're ready to put the effort into testing and retesting everything.

    But that just sounds like a submod for Stainless Steel or Deus Lo Vult (Or worse, vanilla) with modern borders and changing the start date. More of a novelty than a mod, really. I don't mean to sound harsh, just not seeing much of a point to that besides the slightly different map. Unless of course I'm selling your idea short and you have a really awesome plan with a backstory and scripted campaign that immerses the player in this alternate world. Again, not bashing your idea, just considering what would be worth effort to make. A 2015 mod using all the tricks to represent more modern arms and putting it as WWIII, that would be unique.

    For me this idea sounds interesting, but I dont see the point of making separate campaigns for all continents. I would suggest one campaign. Would definatelly make some (many?) countries as rebel-controlled (Lybia, Iraq etc). I also reckon it would be maybe necessary to merge countries into factions, considering the limit. I would like to see some kind of a faction roster idea, what factions would you want to include - completely based on real nations or also some international ones?

    Well as for factions
    I was doubting about Somalia
    But countries like the USA, Russia,
    Germany , China ( the "big" factions )
    And then smaller factions like:
    Somalia , Saudi Arabia, England,Brazil, Argentina, Australia, France, Spain, Mexico, Canada,Algeria, marroco
    Italy,greece,south-africa,Congo, Sudan ( merging south ( sorry indepence fighters)
    Korea ( maybe both or merge , could leave out of)
    Chile ( or Peru)
    Kazakhstan ( this is one huge country if left rebel 2 things could happen: Russia becomes unstoppable or Ukraine/Mongolia will become very powerful, however if left as Kazakhstan Russia could still pummel it )
    Poland,Ukraine, Mongolia, Romania, hungary,
    Possibly Indonesia
    India

    Leave out :
    Yemen
    Irak ( maybe Iran)
    Syria
    Cyrus ( however could be fun to play I suppose)
    Libya
    Lesotho

    these are just suggestions however , I'd love to know which factions you agree on and which factions certainly should be added

    As for the roster I'm not completely sure how is do that


    Also possible to add all BI factions but would be a tad annoying for all factions there as I'd need to space BI out alot

    You're going to have a hard time getting people to help with this, because As WhiffOfGrapeshot said, this is more of a novelty, and a pretty gimmicky one at that.

    It's a little complicated to have factions for the whole world, but I guess have to start somewhere. Only Im not sure if the idea of single nations can really work, maybe having them grouped in alliances like NATO instead, would be something to consider.

    Many countries are left out, so Id say maybe its better to think of factions as alliances to include more countries. Like for example Scandinavian countries together instead only Sweden, or Russia also controlling Kazakhstan, Belarus and other of its close friends, maybe even have EU or NATO to have most of Europe as one faction.

    If I'd have alliances like NATO it would be just 3 factions basicly
    However the Scandinavia sound cool yes

    Instead of NATO I could ally the factions

    Oh and I really like your faction list of Asia , Europe and Africa that's a great idea

    But as for America wouldnt the USA be able to grow humongous if Canada is rebel

    Their only contesters would be Scandinavia/England

    Not sure how powerful you would make the US, but if Canada is rebel they still have Mexico to the south. I dont know if Canada should be a faction or not, probably depends on what you want to achieve with it. Personally I wouldnt include Canada as a separate faction, maybe even combine it with UK-as some other Commonwealth nations maybe? Also for the US, if there is a whole word map, they could have many bases all around the world, being a world superpower.

    But the bases are ready to locate via the wiki

    I wouldn't see how Mexico could get to Canada( before the U.S.)

    But I agree in it not being a faction though

    On which map would it be a good idea to start?


    I'd say America or the main campaign map
    As that makes it easier work then expanding the Teutonic/brittania expansion
