    Default Imperium

Imperium as we know it gives you many penalties as you go larger. Indeed big empires have big problems. However big empires have benefits too.
I think as you go bigger (which means stronger) you should have extra relationship with your client state/satrapies + allies. By doing that you make sure that client states + allies does not betray you for no reason or because you are just big......although you never hurt them. Maybe the latest technologies should be available only if you reach some imperium level.

Makes sense, not sure if that can work though. We'll cross that bridge when we get there

Well, diplomatic effects don't quite work that way. Unless it was added in Attila and I've missed it, there sadly isn't any way to actually boost relations with clients and satraps. Basically, in game you can set diplomatic relations based on religion and subculture (in Attila I believe). So only in a smaller scenario campaign would something like that really be possible. You *can* increase the number of units that can be levied from those states.

In terms of specific imperium effects, those haven't been determined yet. Frankly, while it's been a while since I've been able to play a campaign, the late stages of Rome 2 were a cake walk. So imperium has tended to be used by mods and I would say even by CA to balance things out. Having a large empire wasn't easy and was a big part of the reason Rome's political system ended up breaking down in the late Republic.

But we'll see how we can balance all of these things down the road.

But please reduce the corruption levels in large empires from Attila. The decadent WRE had a hard time paying its armies but most thriving ancient empires swimmed in money.

Our corruption won't be that bad, and there will be ways to offset those things. I'm not big into mindless penalties the player can do nothing to fix. This is about the rise of empires, after all. That's what this time frame covers. So, I won't or can't say what penalties imperium rise will have specifically, but I'm not looking to punish people needlessly. I think the ideal situation is expansion should have challenges that the player has to address.

We have an entire building overhaul planned with a lot more options. So, imperium will have some bonuses, some drawbacks. Corruption isn't going to be done away with, but you will have tools to deal with it. And it won't be as crippling as Attila because these are, again, different time periods.
