Default would anyone play Bronze Age: total war

just wondering now that we have gotten the medieval period, roman period and shogan period covered, would anybody be interested in playing the pre-roman republic days of the world, basically anything before this mainly consisting of the bronze age civilizations?

just a few to list off here
Sumer , Babylon , Assyria, Akkadians , hittites, Neo-babylon, Israelites, Minoans, Persians, Mycaeneans, Achaens , greek city states, Celts, pre-republic italian civilizations ( city of rome, samnites, etruscans, ect), celts, germans,

Near East (Amorites, Hittites, Hurrians, Hyksos and possibly the Israelites).
the Late Bronze Age is characterized by competing powerful kingdoms and their vassal states (Ancient Egypt, Assyria, Babylonia, Hittites, Mitanni) Extensive contacts were made with the Aegean civilization (Ahhiyawa, Alashiya) in which the copper trade played an important role. This period ended in a widespread collapse which affected much of the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East.
you'd pretty much start with the rise of Sumerians or maybe a bit later, and either end the game with the fall of the major civilations ( Hittites, Achaens, Minoans, and Mycaeneans, and nearly Ancient Egypt) in a 50 year period, which would then go into 500 years period which much of written history and cultural acheivements was lost, also known as the Dark ages. or you could also include the rise of the early iron age with the Greek city states, persia, and the italians and end after the establishment of the roman republic and its rise over italy ( maybe end with hannibals invasion.)

what do you guys think? i know this period is very rarely discussed, but there is a ton of good content in there.

The Hyksos would rock big time. But they would have to be hyped up with fast moving superior chariots and war horses. You could keep them from conquering too quickly by making it a lot more difficult for them to run settlements that are not thier own, so that they'd be condemned to play perpetual raiders...

And I've been waiting for a modder to propose this since if you're opposed to steam age and gunpowder wars then it is really one of the few options you've got left to develop...

    honestly, not too interested.
bit too primitive for my tastes. there wouldnt be enough variety in the units or tactics at all.
sure people will argue with me, there may be some minimal variety, but nowhere near as much as the roman and medieval periods.

the only thing worse that i could think of would be 'neanderthal: total war'.
we could all field armies of club-wielding brutes that all looked the same. wooden clubs +1 upgrades, anyone?
    not for me

well not really, if you just look at Sumer the first major civilization they devoloped the shieldwall style of fighting ( big shields with spears interlocking)
Assyria developed cavalry, heavy use of war chariots, mounted archery, seige weapons, ect.
plus with minoans and so forth you have the trojan wars, so all greek historical warfare. you also have the exodus of the jews from egypt and their establishment of israel and all those battles with the philistines. then there is the persian wars and invasions, great fleet battles. people just think bronze age is primative, but in fact there is not only a ton of variety in troops and fighting styles, probably more so then in later periods, but a ton of famous and epic battles, and a buttload of seige warefare.

True true, not much variety in the earliest of armies ... or organization. Now what would make this interesting would be if players were given creative control over the development of those cultures through time, deciding the evolutionary course of their militaries. perhaps a neighboring group becomes adept at horse-archery, players could begin to restructure their forces to counter that threat. my two cents

I think it would be great, but it would take a lot of work to research the cities so that they'd be authentic looking and the campaign would have to be set up to emphasize the utter relentless cruelty and pitilessness of the era.

Come on dude, STONE AGE: TOTAL WAR would be a great hit, what's there not to like? hahaha (I would indeed play it)

You need to read some more on Bronze Age man, it's not as primitive as you think.

Ah, interesting idea, but here's the problem:

We hardly know a thing about Bronze Age military machines - only a few clues gleaned here and there. Much of Bronze Age history is still unknown to us in its entirety. Research for this sort of mod would be very hard work for an amateur indeed.

CA wouldn't even attempt it, and with good reason. If professional archaeologists can't get a good impression of the Bronze Age military machines, then I seriously doubt anyone else could. If you did try it, my guess is that you'd have a seriously boring unit roster as well, just spearmen, archers and chariots. Still, if you want to give it a go, then all the best of luck to you.

Anyone ever played this game called "chariots of war"?
It was based around the bronze age and it rocked, i dont know how historically accurate it was but it was definitely very interesting.

Edit: If possible, have it based around mesopotamia, egypt and asia minor, so you can have egyptians, assyrians, babylonians, hittites, mitanni and what ever else.

War of the Gods mod is actually bronze age mod I guess. Greeks used bronze weapons in the early periods.

I don't know about any of you but I love the Bronze Age. It was the first Age of Enlightenment, in the Bronze Age you had the creation of totally new ideas and tactics that were never thought of. If your okay with it I would be willing to research all the information you need for each civilization you plan to put inside this mod. And when your done making it please give me a copy, personally the era of Babylon and Egypt are the coolest to me.
