Rome, without a shadow of doubt - but I do like the period a lot more than MTW2
Same. Don't really like the middle ages. PLus that I'm not really that blown away by M:TWII graphics.

I like all of the total war games but none blowed me away like Shogun
I will never forget my first battle("aaw the graphics..it looks so real" )
When i clicked on my first unit of Yari cavalary and the drums started to play.................aaaw the memorys
but hey
MTW was a blast
RTW was a blast
and MTW2 seems to be a blast too
You ask for steak, I bring you fish. You say that you think steak is better than fish. I say that fish is much more popular than steak so obviously it's better. You say that no matter how good the fish is it can't be better at being steak than the actual steak we used to serve. I say that's just your perception and you're entitled to it but you should accept that fish is the future and that's good. You begin to say something but I stab you in the eye with a fork and run into the kitchen.
Medieval 2 is by far the best Total War game for me, because:
It has more atmosphere than Shogun, it has the extreme weather effects like Shogun had, it has more units than Medieval, it takes skill to play both on the strat map and the battle map, there is no snow balling or hojo hordes, it has brand new AI that is way beyond any previous TW game, and of course the graphics are jaw dropping.
There is a specific reason I did this. Its to see how many people actually think that Total War games are getting worse and worse...

I would say the original Medieval. Although I wouldn't go back to it now, I certainly enjoyed it more, at the time, than Shogun, Rome or M2TW when they first came out.
Medieval 2 because of its potential. I like the new build-units and garrison system. A full patched MTW is about as good right now though, but I'm anxious to see what a fully patched MTW2 will like.
Well, I could say Medieval 2, but I'm still a bit exited about it, so it might change..
Damn, I'll say it's Medieval: Total War, my first game of the series. Just think of all those legendary moments, ahh.. It deserves a vote =)

Blatantly Rome for me. Despite the bugs, its the one that got me really playing Total War. I love Shogun, but it never held me in quite the same way Rome did. I entered the community with Rome too, which is important. It also helped fired my interest in the Ancient World, which I had a passing interest for in the past, but Rome really got me interested in it on a professional level, to the point where I'm studying it at University. I don't really think many games can claim to have such a profound effect on someone really. I wouldn't say it was the decider, but certainly the catalyst for my developing interest in Ancient History. While I have got an interest in Medieval History, I tend it to be related to the effects of ancient history.

Have to say M2TW, enjoyed all the TW games, very fond memories of Shogun, it was just so new and original when it came out.
But this is the first one that I haven't got bored with when I'm not winning and have to start new campaigns.
You can't really compare MTW II to any other TW game yet. It only been out a few months. You need to play out the game out long term in order to see how it compares to the other games.
For me, Rome is the one and only. Its time period is so exciting and brilliant. Alot more going on than in the Medieval Era. I just can't do with Crusades on MTW I & II. They are just so pointless. You lose more than you will ever gain, unless you control the pope and select where the Crusade will be, in order to further your empires power.
England is the best faction by the way. RULE BRITTANIA![]()

MIITW is a superior game, but Rome is what made me first fall in love with the series.

I've been playing Total War since the Shogun days.
I loved Shogun, and when Medieval came out, I loved that one even more.
Then Rome came along and completely blew me away- my all-time favorite game.
So naturally I got M2:TW the day it came out, and its so buggy I don't really even want to play it until the patch comes out. It's got a lot of potential, but at the moment I'm disappointed.
This is to be the greatest total war game ever, once the patches starts rollin' in. The expansion will be a though one, i cant even guess.
And I cannot even imagine what they will come up with next!
But one thing is for sure, a new totalwar-engine is a part of it.
