Nope. Saying that not everyone that trespasses into another country is an asylum seeker does not support such a sick mentality.

(CNN)Salman Rushdie -- a celebrated author and winner of the world's top literary prizes whose writings generated death threats -- was attacked and stabbed at least twice on stage Friday before a lecture he was scheduled to give at the Chautauqua Institution in western New York, State Police said.

Rushdie was on a ventilator Friday evening and could not speak, his agent, Andrew Wylie, told the New York Times.
"Salman will likely lose one eye; the nerves in his arm were severed; and his liver was stabbed and damaged," Wylie told the Times. "The news is not good."
The suspect was identified as Hadi Matar, 24, from Fairview, New Jersey, State Police Troop Commander Major Eugene J. Staniszewski said in a Friday evening news conference. Police are working with the FBI and local authorities to determine the motive.

    From the CNN report above:

In 1989, the late Iranian leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini called Rushdie a blasphemer and said "The Satanic Verses" was an insult to Islam and the Prophet Mohammed, and issued a religious decree, or fatwa, calling for his death.

The bounty against Rushdie has never been lifted, though in 1998 the Iranian government sought to distance itself from the fatwa by pledging not to seek to carry it out.

But despite what appeared to be a softening of the fatwa, more recently, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei reaffirmed the religious edict.

In February 2017, on Khamenei's official website, the supreme leader was asked if the "fatwa against Rushdie was still in effect," to which Khamenei confirmed it was, saying, "The decree is as Imam Khomeini issued."

Lol CNN trying to project obvious Sunni/Wahhabi moment on Shia Iran is silly. Perp was probably radicalized and groomed by both fundamentalists and US alphabet agencies.

More good news on the gun rights front.

Federal judge strikes down Texas ban on 18- to 20-year-olds carrying handguns in public

A federal judge has ruled that a Texas law that bans people ages 18 to 20 from carrying handguns in public is unconstitutional, saying the restriction is inconsistent with the Second Amendment and US history.

The decision follows a transformational Supreme Court ruling in June which significantly expanded gun owners’ rights to carry firearms outside the home and raised the threshold that authorities must meet when defending gun restrictions.

District Court Judge Mark Pittman stated that the Texas restriction on “law-abiding 18-to-20-year-olds” is inconsistent with the Constitution because the Second Amendment itself does not state an age restriction, and minors were part of state militias that existed in the formative years of American history.
    Pittman writes:

To start, the Second Amendment does not mention any sort of age restriction. This absence is notable—when the Framers meant to impose age restrictions, they did so expressly. See, e.g., U.S. CONST. art. I, § 2 (age 25 for the House of Representatives); id. art. I, § 3 (age 30 for the Senate); id. art. II, § 1 (age 35 for the President). Instead, the Second Amendment refers only to “the people,” which various Founding-Era dictionaries define as a reference to those who make up the “national community.” See United States v. Jimenez-Shilon, 34 F.4th 1042, 104445 (11th Cir. 2022) (quoting Noah Webster, American Dictionary of the English Language 600 (1st ed. 1828) (“The body of persons who compose a community, town, city, or nation.”)); see also 2 Samuel Johnson, A Dictionary of the English Language 305 (6th ed. 1785) (“A nation; those who compose a community.”)).

In accord with that understanding, Heller said that “the people” is a term of art that refers to “all members of the political community, not an unspecified subset.” …

With this guidance, the Court asks a simple question: are lawabiding 18-to-20-year-olds properly considered members of the political community and a part of the national community? The answer is yes. And based on that answer, the Court concludes that law-abiding 18-to20-year-olds are a part of “the people” referenced in the Second Amendment. This conclusion is unsurprising: Heller stated that the “Second Amendment right is exercised individually and belongs to all Americans.” Heller, 554 U.S. at 581 (emphasis added).
    Very cool

You quote Pittman arguing that there is no age restriction in the 2nd Amendment so there can be none but he uses the qualifier of "law-abiding" in there. So, where in the 2nd Amendment does it say "law-abiding" ?

It doesn't have to say "law-abiding" in constitution to use it as positive qualifier.

Why does it have to say "18 years of age"?

It doesn't need to. Under Supreme Court precedent, restrictions on the right to keep and bear arms are lawful as long as such restrictions are rooted in history and tradition and consistent with the Founding-era understanding of the right. So (in their view) that would include restrictions on violent or otherwise dangerous criminals, but not law-abiding young adults.

Who gets to decide what's rooted in history and tradition as well as being consistent with the Founding-era understanding?

So, they can decide that 18 years of age threshold is also part of that? Yes?

They can decide whatever they want, doesn't mean people are under any obligation to accept it. Rights come from God, not government.

Then that's also true with respect to law-abiding citizens qualifier. Why ground one on courts while dissing the courts for the other?
