Default Liberals versus Conservatives: A Debate Between Ideologies

    Split from this thread

Yes, there's more liberal thinkers on this site than right-wing conservative thinkers on this site.

Is that bad? Not really, those few conservatives on here hold up their arguments very well, until it comes to something ridiculous like human rights, and then it just becomes a matter of belief and interpretation based on some things that should only affect our personal lives, not national policy...

EDIT: The above was not meant to be liberal or conservative, but realist and humane.

Many online forums that are open to debate tend to have more liberals than conservatives.

Aw, here's a caring kiss Livia. It's slightly poisoned -liberally, but it's the gesture that counts.

Maybe we should open a special forum for conservatives.
It should contain just one topic, which should be locked and containing just one post: "The Bible tells you everything you need to know".
So only conservatives are bible thumpers and the vast majority of them are? Or do all conservatives think this way. Talk about generalization. In fact most conservatives dont think that way.

    Debating is a liberal concept.
Well debating using the facts is not something liberals relish. They always make an emotional appeal.

But more conservatives think along those lines than do liberals...

    Rarely do I see a Bible-thumping Democrat/Liberal.

It's not generalization but part of their definition.

Conservative = somebody who wants to stick with the old, and in Christian countries this means Christian values and Church rules.

Liberal = somebody who wants personal freedom, and this includes freedom of expression/speech, open debate, right to question the Church etc.

Conservatives used to execute liberals on even the slightest hint of them debating the Church rules.

The biggest problem (and yet the strongest faculty) of American liberals is that they believe everything can be explained with reason. This is a good ideal.
No with emotion. Its us conservatives who try to use reason and facts.

And conservatives using religion (face it, many do) is any better?
And so do liberals. It all depends upon their constituency.

    But are you a conservative?
Or do you just call yourself a conservative?
I was talking about true conservatives, and there are very few of those left (just like there are very few true liberals).

Conservatives have always criticised progressive politics, but conservatives of the next generation would not opt for a come back, but against further progress. That is the whole hypocrisy of conservative ideology. Do you think that the United States were created by conservatives? Back then they were very progressive. I am not making the apology of all the liberal ideas, far from it, because not all liberal ideas are progressive and not all in a good way, however I am criticising conservatives (and by it's universal definition, not the american one).

Well, you guys have to understand that this forum has a significant European popluation, and even the most mainstream conservative European is more liberal that the most mainstream liberal American. That sentence was a bit awkward, here's a diagram:
