Default My Goal: A Workaround for the Army System.

I really, REALLY hate the whole army system in Attila and Rome II. I don't see why I shouldn't be able to split off a cavalry force from a larger army to chase down a few enemy stragglers that aren't worth the whole army's attention. I most certainly do not like having to keep all of my ships in huge fleets instead of being able to break off a few from a battle squadron to escort a small detachment of troops bound across the sea to shore up a garrison in, say Africa.

    -end rant-

I've been working for a long time to try and get around the Army system. Getting rid of army limits is easy but three major issues remain, and I would be immensely grateful to anyone who could tell if these changes can be made and if so, how.

    1. Changing the starting movement points for a newly formed army: To be able to do the things I mentioned above, it would be necessary for newly formed armies to start with full movement points.

    2. Making armies recruitable for free. This shouldn't be too hard, but I'm unsure how to go about it. Do I just change the recruitment price in for the specific general units or is there a seperate process relating to the recruitment of generals?

    3. (somewhat unrelated by still very important) Is there a way to get rid of the 1 turn delay from when you dismiss a commander or governor to when you can assign him to a new post? It would be kind of nice to be able to have the governor of a province be able to instantly take over an army stationed within it to lead it against an invader, as often occurred in late Roman history.

Sorry for how wordy and long this is, but I know my irritation with the army system is shared by someone out there. I would seriously appreciate any help anyone can give me with the above three items.

    Thank you!

I too would like to know this. I assume whatever governs it also manages governors. It always seemed odd to me that you had to pay someone you were already giving a great deal of political power and authority to.

I think there are a few lines in campaign_variables that determine costs for recruiting new generals. I remember seeing this looking through the files a few days ago, but I didn't try it out.

Alright, editing the agents tables I did manage to get rid of the cost of appointing generals. I wonder if there's a way to get rid of the 1 turn delay before one gives them a new assignment.

I imagine so, not 100% which table it would be in though.

You could make any unit in the faction available as a general unit (Unit_availibility_Something something,) remove the general cap (Fame_Levels,) remove the cost of recruiting rank one generals (Campaign variables,) and get something that in many ways, is a lack of general system, with the exception of being able to break up your armies into smaller task forces.
