Default My proposal: The Conspiracy, 157 AC

    157 AC.

The rule of King Aegon III seemed secure and solid, no-one posed a serious menace to his reign until a series of events led to the turmoil of 157 AC. Dreamfyre, beloved to Helaena, died, seemingly poisoned, her wings withered and her loins swarming with worms. Her ten keepers were questioned and finally hanged, but no culprit was found. At the same time the King's foodtaster died amidst terrible pains and an assassin was almost successful in killing his Grace had not the Kingsguard stood that day. Other attempts were made and fear started to spread through the keep when several key figures were killed in cold blood, without a trace of who was ultimately responsible, even if some minions were captured and interrogated. Rumors about a conspiracy started to appear here and there, a conspiracy to topple the current regime.

Uncertainty grew when the King announced a campaign against Dorne, in order to finally subdue the Princedom, alas, the Three Daughters publicly proclaimed their allegiance with the Martell. Bad crops, a devastating Winter some years prior and the menace of war made some lords form which was called “The Lords Declarant”, demanding a greater participation of nobility in the affairs of the realm. In the meanwhile, the High Septon was poisoned and his newly elected successor considered the recent events a sign of godly disapproval and publicly started to denounce the regime. Simbolically he left the still on-build Sept of King’s Landing, known as Aegon’s Sept among the smallfolk, and returned to Oldtown.

Ladies and Lords, the realm is on balance.

    FACTS:

-There is a conspiracy going on, its leader someone I’ve yet to reveal. Players may chose if they belong to it or not. The objective is to dethrone the King and name their leader king.
-Several key characters have either died by old age or murdered, thus leaving place for a younger generation. Also, that means there’s a power vacuum right now.
-The Lords Declarant: Demand the King further privileges for the nobility and the constitution of a council to assist him on ruling the Kingdom, thus increasing the participation of nobility.
-The Faith is prone to restore its armed branch and wage war against the monstrous Targaryen, some whispers (actually true) that the High Septon intends to crown another Great Lord as King, whoever he might be.
-There is a pending menace over dragons, they have decayed considerably and the conspirators will try to kill them all, or at least cripple the current ones under the King’s control.
-There are two predetermined armies at game start at Prince’s Pass and the Boneway, intended to invade Dorne. The Daughters (Myr, Lys, Tyrosh) and the Martell stand on their way. Recently, the old Prince has died and the ruling Princess of Dorne is married with a Rogare. Braavos is prone to ally itself with the Targaryen.

I like it, not convinced about the Three Daughters alliance with Dorne. But overall I really like it

    I have an idea;

Why don't we randomize who belongs to the conspiracy and who is its leader? Oz tells a person (who doesn't play the game, Narf? McScottish?) who are the candidates to be the leader and this person will use a random number assigner and will then roll who's the leader and will only tell that person.

Then we do that with all the registered players that could be part of the conspiracy.

The only thing is that the conspiracy players would have to handle themselves via PM, which is kinda weird. But we can think it over.

The Daughters alliance is just for balance, giving Dorne a fleet and greater numbers on field. The Triarchy and Dorne were aligned during Daemon Targaryen's war on the Stepstones.

I have quite a good character to act as the conspiracy leader already. However, it could be changed an randomized. The idea is that the leader will stay on the shadows, and players could try to unveil his identity or capture him. We can trust the playerbase to not meta/powergame, they would work like every other player, opening their threads and such. Maybe, a thread on KL called "The Order of the Sword", because that's the name I planned for the conspirators, a nod to an order the King Aegon founded on his coronation, the "Order of the Dragon".

Also I wanted to create a setting that even with Targs ruling could end with someone else on the throne by the HS's blessing or the Lords Declarant's efforts. Those two factions could either be working with the conspiracy, having conspirators or their ranks or not. Conspirators identity will only be known to several conspirators and only the "leader" player will know them all. You know, being a conspiracy/sect they don't know every on board to avoid it being unveiled shall one be captured and tortured.

Not necessary. Rp needs to be finished now and inmediately.

Not so sure about the renewal of the Faith Militant though. Its always been attempted and just seems rather unnecessary.

It was a way to give the HS some real power, however with the support of Hightower and other pious lords it might be unnecessary, plus his own influence as Voice of the Seven may suffice.

Still not convinced its needed. Our player is already so small; if we add on the FM, people will wanna command the Warriors Sons or Poor Fellows, be the High Septon, be supporters within his army and so forth.

I think people tend to forget that when Jaehaerys I made the deal with the High Septon at the time of the Faith Militant Uprising, the Faith was satisfied period. The Iron Throne defends and upholds the tenets of the Faith. It wasn't till radicals were introduced and Cersei decided to be the stupid Queen to rearm and revitalize the Faith in order to gain their support in dealing with the Tyrells and supporting her son.

We could indeed, remove that bit if necessary. Everything is open to discussion, LM.

I think what we are all forgetting, is how to create RP and plot without having it spoon-fed to us.

We should all be ashamed of ourselves *drops the mic*

I am only concerned given how our small playerbase has been halved and two of our main moderators are MIA.

That's true. Fortunately we have Ponti as a new addition and you're still on the watch. Jok might return soon enough when his internet connection returns. But our playerbase is harder to fix, because it's smaller and smaller. However, if we have a decent number this time we could keep things working and wait some players to return from their holidays/summer hiatus.

Sorry to burst your bubble, Oz, but Ponti told me he would be gone around the time of August because classes would be starting up again. August begins next weekend and thus Ponti's time will probably become limited until he has to leave the forum altogether when the school year begins.

I'm back, though I'm not entirely sure about whether or not I'll find interest in another GoT setting. I may just be tired of feeling like doing the same thing over and over, but that's a personal issue. I may try something different this time around though, we'll see.

Overall, it's a sound proposal, Oz. I think it can work, if the randomization of conspirators is implemented. I share LM's doubts about the Faith Militant, though it's plausible if we have a number of zealous mobs (NPC) in the major cities, disheartened with Targaryen rule and aided by the High Septon's denouncement of the king.
