157 AC.
The rule of King Aegon III seemed secure and solid, no-one posed a serious menace to his reign until a series of events led to the turmoil of 157 AC. Dreamfyre, beloved to Helaena, died, seemingly poisoned, her wings withered and her loins swarming with worms. Her ten keepers were questioned and finally hanged, but no culprit was found. At the same time the King's foodtaster died amidst terrible pains and an assassin was almost successful in killing his Grace had not the Kingsguard stood that day. Other attempts were made and fear started to spread through the keep when several key figures were killed in cold blood, without a trace of who was ultimately responsible, even if some minions were captured and interrogated. Rumors about a conspiracy started to appear here and there, a conspiracy to topple the current regime.
Uncertainty grew when the King announced a campaign against Dorne, in order to finally subdue the Princedom, alas, the Three Daughters publicly proclaimed their allegiance with the Martell. Bad crops, a devastating Winter some years prior and the menace of war made some lords form which was called “The Lords Declarant”, demanding a greater participation of nobility in the affairs of the realm. In the meanwhile, the High Septon was poisoned and his newly elected successor considered the recent events a sign of godly disapproval and publicly started to denounce the regime. Simbolically he left the still on-build Sept of King’s Landing, known as Aegon’s Sept among the smallfolk, and returned to Oldtown.
Ladies and Lords, the realm is on balance.
FACTS:
-There is a conspiracy going on, its leader someone I’ve yet to reveal. Players may chose if they belong to it or not. The objective is to dethrone the King and name their leader king.
-Several key characters have either died by old age or murdered, thus leaving place for a younger generation. Also, that means there’s a power vacuum right now.
-The Lords Declarant: Demand the King further privileges for the nobility and the constitution of a council to assist him on ruling the Kingdom, thus increasing the participation of nobility.
-The Faith is prone to restore its armed branch and wage war against the monstrous Targaryen, some whispers (actually true) that the High Septon intends to crown another Great Lord as King, whoever he might be.
-There is a pending menace over dragons, they have decayed considerably and the conspirators will try to kill them all, or at least cripple the current ones under the King’s control.
-There are two predetermined armies at game start at Prince’s Pass and the Boneway, intended to invade Dorne. The Daughters (Myr, Lys, Tyrosh) and the Martell stand on their way. Recently, the old Prince has died and the ruling Princess of Dorne is married with a Rogare. Braavos is prone to ally itself with the Targaryen.
