    Default Roman Family Tree

Unless my eyes deceive me, in the lovely previews of the UI and family trees in particular, the main Roman family is going to be the Julii, specifically the Caesars. I was kind of assuming the Cornelia would be the main family, since Scipio is listed as the faction leader in the campaign menu. I don't think the Caesars were particularly important in this era. They were prestigious and had a few consuls in the early centuries of the Republic, but then fell out of favor and power until Gaius Marius married in, and then of course you have the celebrity Caesar years.
Are the other families set-up to be the spawn names for the other generals and statesmen? I'm guessing there isn't a way to set up several family trees at once.
On that note, is there anyway to set up certain statesmen to spawn? One thing Rome 2 did right was my being able to recruit Gaius Marius and Sulla if I played on long enough. I'd like to reenact the scenario, especially as the year starts off a lot sooner.
Also, if there's a conspiracy to edit in the Cornelia gens as the main family, I want no part of it.

Sorry about not responding to this sooner. This has thrown more people off than I expected it would. The Julia family line was not very significant in 202 BC, though that's also part of the point. You start as the political underdogs. The head of the family tree does not actually have to be the faction leader (which is Scipio Africanus). Scipio was obviously the most important character at this point. No one else would really be appropriate. However, after the next generation, the Scipios simply weren't that important, and the grand campaign is meant to go longer than one or two generations after 202 BC. With the later start date, I would hope that more people actually reach the mid first century in their campaign.

On names, it's only possible to have the one family tree, unfortunately. It's actually only possible to have two political parties period (an other, and the main one you play as). That's a step back from Rome 2. So, we have tried to start the game off with as many historical characters as possible who were alive at that point in time or who were born around that time.

As for scripted generals, yes, this is possible. It's not too difficult to do, either. Though that will be mapped out later.

Idea; Have 'families' spawn as Other Generals as scripted events. Heck, you could make it a touch random, so you see your Juliis and so on as expected, but maybe you might see others pop up (Grachi or something or other) as a response to a quarandary.

    For instance:

A family is vying for more importance inside the republic. Due to a combination of luck, skill and bribery they have achieved enough importance to affect the republic. How do you want to deal wit these upstarts?:
Option 1:Like we care (3 generals with 100 influence spawns for other Nobles, -6% Control)
Option 2: Crush them! use all our might! (1 General spawns with 20 Influence, -12% control, -10 public order across faction)
Option 3: Join forces (3 Generals with 50 Influence spawns for other Nobles, +12% Control)

    Thank you for the response.
I quite like the sound of that. The main reason I got interested in this mod in the first place was that it starts off close to the end of the 3rd Century BCE, so I actually have a chance to get to the age of the Cimbri Wars and the like.
With the line-up of historical generals, I'm almost tempted to let one or two legions' Integrity get low, just so I can have a good old fashioned civil war.

Could you not place them all in one big extended family tree? I know they're not all related, but you could have them all descended from a placeholder ancestor, maybe have the gods in there or something as progenitors of the lot of them idk as after all many of the major families professed to be born of divinity... That way you could have all the major families developing, having babies etc... I mean you can have multiple family names within the family tree I assume, correct? And one would have to debuff the strength of the family over the realm too. You could then use the other faction for perhaps Latin allies, plebeians and equites classes in this way you could also represent the class system... you'd be able to adopt from this pool of generals as well! Furthermore this way you could get someone like our good ol' Italian hayseed with no Greek Gaius Marius!

Heh, I'm half-way through the second book in that series.

That wouldn't really work, practically or gameplay wise. Family members from the same family tree can't marry one another or anything. You would just be limiting what you could do with a large number of characters as it relates to the player's party. Not to mention the issues that could create for UI. The game doesn't always like the long family trees I've already set up.

Eh, it was the thought that counts
