    Default secondary weapons?

    is it possible to make a unit change their weapon to a secondary weapon? I.E have legionaries use their Pilum as a spear to make them a little better against cav(but not as good as dedicated spear units) but worse against infantry?

    if its possible it could potentially increase a players tactical options

    Well, only in specific instances. For missile troops, if you hit the melee button. You can give Roman troops a formation button that can make them use their pila as spears, ala the way DeI and some other mods have (though this was stationary only last I saw). Pikemen will switch to their swords, as well.

    The issue is - the stats remain unchanged. So do animations. So, there's really no way to get a sword unit to switch to a sword. It's melee won't improve and it's just a visual shift. There is no way to set alternative melee weapon stats.

    Philip and Petellius can probably give a more coherent answer than I can.

    spear and sword units can work in this way: Some units in DeI fight normally with spear/shield, but against infantry, they can switch to sword/shield animations. But as ABH2 mentioned, its just visual, the stats are still from the weapon set in the land_units table, in most cases a spear... But the battles looks nice
