yep, the same.
yep, the same.
Moved thread to the Medieval II: Total War General Discussion section.
what if this works, but instead of a patch, we get a 10€ dlc?
I would be willing to pay up to $15.00 for it in a heartbeat, assuming that modders actually develop something with it.
Not saying I would be happy with that (I think that CA is getting too greedy as is) but if I could have stainless steel with dozens of new mini-factions to replace the rebel ones, I would buy it. Perhaps the SS team can make emergent factions as well, and add in the Americas once more.
Ahh, I'm getting my hopes wayy too high already.
I doubt CA would be willing to do it no matter how many signatures we got. Medieval 2 is a decade old now, and it's hardly their primary source of revenue. I think, if anything, they would be disappointed that people still play it so much. I, for one, play M2TW (With Stainless Steel 6.4), Empire (With Darthmod), and Napoleon. I don't play Shogun 2 as I am not a fan of the setting and Rome 1 is just an eyesore nowadays. I tried playing Rome 2 again this morning, but for whatever reason, it just looks and feels God-awful to me. I've logged only something like 60 hours of Rome 2. Since Attila is virtually Rome 2 reskinned (feel free to disagree), I have no intention of buying it- I have medieval 2!
That's a problem for CA. They don't care that I played 3 or 4 thousand hours of M2TW- I only paid for it once, during a Steam Summer Sale, no less. They want me to buy new games so they make money. It's therefore in their interest not to prolong the time I spend on M2TW, but to get me bored of it so I play Attila instead.
Just the unfortunate way it all works. CA hasn't exactly shown a lot of attention to its fanbase recently.
I'll sign, but I think that the memory project has a better chance at a breakthrough.
True, and as much as I support this petition, I'm very pessimistic. Even if we would be ready to pay 10$ for it, CA won't bother. Especially since this has to pass through SEGA. We're just a tiny minority.
The question is: is it even recommendable to break the faction/region limit? I wouldn't mind the loading times, but many mods already struggle with them now due to scripting. I think CA would have to work on their 10 year old engine to make it really work.
It's really a shame that R2/Attila are so bad. They have the technique to depict the ancient world in all it's variety (with 150+ factions), yet the game has awful core mechanics. I'd be ready to put MedII to rest after all the countless hours I put into it, I know the game inside out, but sadly we don't have anything better. Except for Shogun II maybe, but that's limited in scope/variety.

Zarathos stated that he doubts that they lost it, based on the fact they released a patch for Steam relating to multiplayer last year, if I remember correctly.
Personally, I've only heard this statement second-hand. I don't know what the original source for this claim is.
It would be dependent on whether multi-core support or single core optimisation comes included in a limits-breaking patch.
In fact, based on the fact the game could now have been broken by Windows 10, I'm a bit more optimistic that a patch might be plausible. If we can get to our target (32 more needed) and then get in touch with CA, what's to say they wouldn't tag some optimisations and limit breaks on the back of a Windows 10 patch? This petition has always been based on hope.![]()

Well considering I paid 2.50 US, I don't fault them for wanting some real money out of me. Wouldn't any change be better than none?
It would be great if somebody could create some banners/sigs for this!
I've created a Facebook Page and will get around to finishing it off tomorrow, at which point I'll share the link here.
It may also be prudent if we outline what we are advocating for a bit more specifically. Some people may not understand exactly what it is we are trying to achieve, so a paragraph or two on what the current issue(s) is and how it can be fixed would be useful. Additionally, the title is of course "Removal of hardcoded limits", but which ones? Perhaps it should create a list of priorities, including what a minimum and a maximum result would be (i.e. some info for the Memory Editing crew to make use of would be the least we are aiming for, while the best case scenario would be a patch or new executable). We should also make it clear whether or not we are willing to pay for this (the general consensus seems to be that a fee in the region of $15 to $50 would be acceptable).
I'll be happy to assist more in that process tomorrow or the next day - I've got a busy schedule at the moment unfortunately - but hopefully that gets the ball rolling. Let's make this happen!

Well let's be careful not to make demands. By enforcing our will and saying we'd refuse to pay for this would make us sound entitled and would probably do little to help the cause.
Thanks for the promotion in this Frunk, let's reach the 500 by tonight!![]()
You're quite right. I've never been of the opinion that a patch would be free of charge, nor should it be free of charge.
I just mean that we need to be clear about what our wishes are. That would, hopefully, make it easier for CA to take action, and, simultaneously, harder for CA to ignore.

As i mentioned somewhere earlier, in case we convince them to sell another patch CA should get in contact with some of the leading mod developers and discuss with them what should be lifted and to what extent.
People like you and me have too many wishes and demand too many things and features to be newly added. We should stay realistic and only try to get the things that are "most needed" into such a patch. I think the biggest and also most important thing would be to optimise the engine for newer machines, multi core support and a better rendering system for the graphics... im dreaming again already![]()
I am no leading modder team, unless i count my own person as a team, but in my humbe opinion:
1, regions limits
I think every modder is about fed up to twist their maps around and wondering which part of the map should have more settlements, which one to leave out and which one to put in.
2, factions limits,
One thing lead to a other, so if you have more settlements, you definitly need more factions, not to mention the need to represent the medieval time in a more realistic way, geographycly speaking.
3 Units and buildings,
if you have more factions, you need more buildings and units.
4, culture limits
it goes with the 3 above.
5, Any limits such as mount unit limit, textures models limits and so on that could get in the way of the 4 improvements above.
This seems realistic enough to me, it doesn't require new features, just to change the variables in the source code for the biggest limitations.
New features might require lot more work in code, so i don't think we should ask for it.

Number of factions, number of regions, number of units, resources, hidden_resources, number of building trees, number of religions, number of cultures. Just double them all and it would be good enough.
I'd pay even 20 bucks for that, and CA should really take this issue seriously, since I only have M2 and I will never buy another one of its games, so this is its only chance to make more money off me.

Already signed on Monday! But to add something to the list of wishes/demands..: what about an increased campaign map size since that's hardcoded as well if I'm not mistaken?
Really glad something is happening about this whole matter finally! Let's make that happen!
Looks like that's our next step - reach out to the modders.
In the meantime, the Facebook page is up and running! I don't expect it to get many likes at all, but I'll use it to post on Total War, Creative Assembly and Sega content, and that should hopefully get even more people signing the petition (nearly 500 now!).
I whacked together a profile pic and a header pic using my limited skills. If anybody can improve on them, please let me know! Suggestions are more than welcome for the rest of the page too.
