With CA being an asset of SEGA, I'm afraid that the whole thing has been "financialised".
The guy in charge of the decision probably does not know what "Hardcoded Limits" are.
Banknotes on the other hand, it doesn't take a rocket scientist or an IT guy to understand what they mean.

Sorry, but expecting CA to create a team to "open up" the Medieval 2 engine for free is simply absurd.

Signed but not optimistic they will ever listen to us.

Legal reasons are said to be behind why they don't allow you to mess with the exe, but what are those legal reasons? Can't they just say, in legalese, "do whatever you want, but don't make money from it"? Why do they let us do mods but not alter the exe? What would they lose by letting us do that?

The .exe is kinda like both the motor and the key to a car. You can basically modify your .exe, but you are not allowed to share it with anyone else. If people were to share their .exe with the engine that has copyright claims on it, people could play the mods without having the game in the first place.

I really don't get why this thread is still active. I get that the game limits are kinda annoying, but we all know they are not gonna do that.

If you're asking why you can no longer sign the petition on change.org, then I'm afraid I don't know for sure. However, this page says that petitions are automatically closed after 1 year, so it's quite likely that's the reason for closure in this case.

So much as built-in 4gb access would be nice. But having made a few direct approaches myself for that one, I would expect nothing, and continue to expect nothing until CA folds or they go to a completely new generation of game that could never be threatened by Medieval 2 source. Think when it's today's equivalent of releasing a DOS program code.
