Default Petition to Remove/Lighten the Hardcoded Limits

Hey guys, so as most all of you already know, Medieval 2 has many arbitrary hard coded limits for things like number of factions and total units. Somebody decided to make a petition to CA to change these and he asked me to spread the word a bit.

Please spread the word if you can!

Sweet! I posted this to the AOPK moddb page, and maybe if everyone else does too we can get this ball rolling!

Should we spread word of this to other sections of the forums?

Awesome! I was hoping you'd see this seeing as you've had this same problem.

Should we spread word of this to other sections of the forums?
Yes! This originated on the Hyrule: Total War forum and I thought to post it here because I'm a frequent poster here. Spread it as much as you'd like/can! I've also asked some of my youtube friends to spread the word about it.

    Good idea!

We hope that the CA should consider.

BTW, how will CA know about this? Maybe they have someone on the forums here? Also, have we thought about putting this on the TWC front page? That would get a TON of signatures.

I have zero idea how to get this on the front page. Please do feel free to contact somebody about doing that though.

In the mean time, I got TWC to retweet this to 4k followers.

As for Creative Assembly, my hope is to get to 500 signatures then try contacting places like IGN, PC Gamer and so on to see if they'd report on it, and then send it to CA once we have a lot more signatures. I'm proud of the rate it's been happening, breaking 300 in about 3 days, but if this is show to CA too early then there is no chance.

Well, a man shall sign it, but a man is also quite sure they put those limits for good reasons. Bugs, glitches, errors otherwise?

I doubt 500 signatures will be anywhere near enough to convince CA to do anything, if they can do it at all. I hate to be the crusher of dreams but don't get your hopes too high for this chaps. That doesn't mean you shouldn't try... but I feel that if CA was going to do anything about this it would have been done a very long time ago, the desire for modding freedom is an old desire and one CA is quite aware of already. I wish you the best of luck tho.

hardcode is mostly there for legal reason afaik, because if you open it up for everyone, the game is basically a free for all. thats the reason we are not allowed to mess with the .exe, which would allow us to do away with the hardcode ourselves, any half decent programmer would be able to do that.

    Thanks!

The plan is to get 500, send it to the media, and then use that to get more signatures.

I'm not entirely convinced this will work, but I also have a fair amount of free time right now and it something to do while I'm encoding my videos :p

Though I remember reading something that any mod that changed the hard coded limits would get banned from TWC because it was illegal to change. It must have been a long while back, but if that is a rule, then wouldn't that imply that it should be a relatively simple change like Hannibal is suggesting?

I read months ago something about this. A guy was working on it, and developted a tool to change it. Indeed, its forbiden to change the hardcoded limits, so what he did was leave them like vanilla, but once the game starts, the program changes the hardcoded limits. He had managed to edit some hardcoded limits, but he said that there were a lot more. And asked people to tell them things to try to change.
