The original mod, Roma Surrectum 1, did start earlier, during the time of the first Punic war. The Seleucid Empire has only ever been called an empire in virtually every single work of history. (See Will Durant The Life of Greece, for an example.) As for the Ptolemies, during this period they would have been classified as an empire, owning a multitude of provinces in diverse places (Egypt, Palestine, Anatolia, Greece, and even Ethiopia), whereas they are classified as a Kingdom after they lost these territories by the time the Romans subjugated them.

But one of the reasons we chose the date we did was because we wanted to cover the start of the Second Punic War. Many mods start in 280BC...ours in 217BC.

That's a matter of personal preference but I like the start in 217 BC, hannibal invades italy and in the east the battle of Raphia is about to begin (one of my favorite battles because both armies have very similar armies).
If you got stuck in life, or your life does not seem to work out, then maybe have an internet search for "Spiral Dynamics".
It's a model of the human psyche, which has the potential to help you open up new possibilities in your life.
A YouTube channel called "Shores of Infinity" has some very high-quality videos on the topic.
Keep in mind that it is just a model, albeit a very practical one.

Another thing you could perhaps look into is undermethylation/overmethylation.

Lastly, you might want to look up a person named "Eckhart Tolle"
