Default The Tourney of Highgarden - 124AC

    Tourney
    of Highgarden

The Reach is the heartland of chivalry in Westeros. Historically some of the greatest knights were born to the mothers and fathers of the fertile green plains. As such, it is home to a myriad of the finest shows of knightly gallantry, from the day-long clashes between young squires to the week-spanning tournaments which devestate the fields for months to come.

As befitting a house as great as the Tyrells, no expense had been spared on the building of the areas. The tilts were solid oak, the personal sigils of several houses - Hightower, Grimm, Roxton, Fossoway and Tyrell - carved in to the very heart of the wood. They were lined up uniformly, the stands erected with metal reinforcements and a hundred banners depicting the tales and legends of House Tyrell and the Reach. The melee fields were flat pits, the earth churned and then flattened before wooden planks were laid. Over those sands two inches deep was poured on top. White sand to give the audience a good canvas on which to see their warriors fight.

Ser Belial Grimm is one of the first to arrive, helping set up at dawn. He arranged a seat not far from the Tyrells so that he may guard them at any moment. He did not trust anyone slated to arrive but then again, he did not trust anyone either way.

Uriel Grimm arrives with his now 3 year old daughter Lysa, loosely named after his father and in honor of his death. Uthor had not been away from Grimston since his father was murdered and Luthor had been MIA for months. He took his seat proudly and happily, even if on his face he wore a look of scorn.

After news of the tourney arrived at Driftmark Addam Velaryon arrived via ship with nothing more than himself and the crew who manned it - an unsavoury who Addam had the common sense to remain at the ship and not to accompany him to the tourney. He came to earn his spurs and gain a reputation whilst Alyn was busy preparing to raid the Free Cities - ha! Who would be jealous now he thought with a satisfied grin.

After attending Jason Lannister's funeral and settling back down in Castamere, Lord Damion and his 4 children arrive at Highgarden, eager for the competition that all 3 males in the family were about to take part of. Jaime, although he had only recently turned 16, was eager to prove himself as a swordsman and if possible, earn his spurs. Damion is attended to by a squire of House Banefort while his son Tytos is attended by one of House Westerling.

Lord Reeve Roxton and his brother Ser Gage Roxton arrives at the Tourney to enjoy them selves. It had been a long time since Reeve had attended one and this was his brothers first at all. Reeve felt that his younger brother needs to start experiencing the world instead of causing trouble at home.

A delegation of knights, courtiers, servants, and some influential figures from the Arbor and the islands sworn to the Redwynes arrive after docking at a small riverport not far away from the tourney grounds. Leading the delegation is Lucia and Alyss Redwyne, Florian Redwyne and his wife Elinor Tyrell for House Redwyne, while Goldwyne and Lowther are represented by Lord Edric Goldwyne and Ser Ronnet Lowther respectively. While some of the knights make their way to sign up for some of the lesser events of the tournament, and some servants unload barrels of various vintages of Arbor Gold and Red brought for the tournament while being watched by several knights of Lady Redwyne's Violet Guard, the rest of the delegation set up a moderately sized camp for the delegation to use during the tournament.

Ser Garlan Tarly, heir to Horn Hill, arrives to Highgarden with a large retinue of squires, pages, servants, guardsmen and siblings. Garlan blows a horn seven times announcing his timely arrival. He rides a horse whose bardings are emblazoned with greyhounds and suns, all in argent. His silvery armor shines under the sun, polished like a mirror and adorned with gold bands and filigree, the helmet topped by an issuing greyhoung and crowned by a coronet. He wears a long mantle embroidered with blue roses in a white field a symbol of his Florent ancestry. His retinue erected a large silken pabillion, a large standard with the colors and heraldry of House Tarly, the proud huntsman. The standard is acompanied by others, the vassals of Horn Hills, lords and knights who erected their tents around Garlan's.

Harlen was dispatched to greet the Grimms, wearing a thin tunic of felt, the roses intertwined red and gold. It had been a recent aquisition, each head representing a knight or noble he had slain for King Aegon. They crowded his body.

"It is good to see you here kinsmen!"

OOC: Na I got it covered.

Theodore Tyrell, usually confined to the castle, enjoyed greeting visitors on a more equal standing.

"It is good to see Westermen here! How was your travels?"

Leo Tyrell, feeling the energy of the tourney rejuvenize himas only it could, took it upon himself to great with several of the higher ranked nobles.

"You are ready to revel in the glories of the realm?"

Alla grinned as she spotted the Roxtons. Loyalty should always be rewarded.

"It is always pleasant to have good true Reachmen grace my son's lands. How have you fared these past years?"

Alla and Harlen greet the Arbor contingent flanked by their own sworn retainers, easy smiles and open embraces freely given as the tourney expanded behind them.

"My lady Tyrell, Ser Tyrell, a pleasure to see you both again." Lucia smiles. "How fares Highgarden?" Alyss faintly smiles, although with a degree of malicious intent as she divides her gaze between the men unloading the barrels and her sister with the Tyrells. "The wine is worth more than their lives..if they dare spill any of it.." she mutters under her breath, then turns away to face the Tyrells. "My lady Tyrell, to help with the festivities, we have brought some of the finest vintages produced on the Arbor." "Yes, along with some exotic wines from the east and some drinks produced further north in Westeros to present a variety for those present to select from.."

We are well now, my friend. One of Arryn's brood came snooping around, seeking the hand of a Reach lady. Probably thought I would offer him my hand, arrogant boy. Lyonel is growing up well, thank you. He has taken poorly recently, unfortunately so much so that he will have to miss the festivities, but I am sure he can arrange many himself when he is older.

Harlen grinned at the notion of "variety". If it was a gift then it was his duty to drink it dry, surely? And a fine variety I am sure, my ladies. I never tire of the liquid heaven which comes from your fair isle.

    Highgarden is well
, Alla pushes through the air of wine-talk, better now that the family is back together.

As peaceful as it can be. War is ever an ugly thing, and Lady Alla is not one to enjoy such despair resting over Highgarden or her son's domain. With the traitors quiet, recovery as been swift. What of the Westerlands?

Lucia smiles. "That is good to hear, my lady." She then turns to Harlen. "Of course, Ser Tyrell. Considering this is a prestigious event, only the finest vintages would suffice."

It is recovering, but in a different way. Jason Lannister did not make many friends when he was alive and if he did, they weren't friends for long. Thankfully his son is more level headed, the Westerlands will recover quickly if he proves better than his father.

Clegane wasted no time in training for the melee. The joust was, of course, the more noble sport, but his strength was in hand to hand combat. A scarecrow type target had been placed on a large wooden stake and he hacked at it furiously until it was reduced to twigs and clumps of hay.
