-Place the main folder "RTH" in Steam\steamapps\common\Rome Total War Gold folder
-Go onto steam and where your RTW game is right click-proporties / then click on set launch option / then paste in everything that is red / -mod:RTH -show_err / The "-mod:RTH" is looking for a folder called "RTH" from which to load from, the "-show_err" will display a message detailing an error that you've encountered.

If you are not fussed about the error message you can just paste / -mod:RTH /

Make sure that there is no space before the command.

    HISTORIC EVENTS

Few know that Rome Total History has added more than 200 real history events, drawn from ancient sources such as Livy, Polybius, Diodor, Plutarch, Athenaios, and others. Each event is introduced with correct date and detail, which means they occur in the same period or year as they did in real history. Themes may regard political and military events, culture and philosophy, geography, architecture, economy, religion, superstition, sports, daily life, fun, etc.

To illustrate the nature of the news I post some of them here:

The following messages will appear in the first two turns:

    {BRENNUS_TITLE} Gallic Invasion in Greece
{BRENNUS_BODY} Several hordes of Celts, who call themselves Galati, have invaded Macedonia and Thessaly. Under their leader Brennus they are approaching Delphi to plunder the riches of the famous Oracle. The Aetolians, trying to defend the sanctuary of Apollo, are requesting support from the other Hellenes. Will they be able to beat off the invaders?

    {ACHAEAN_LEAGUE_TITLE} Achaean League Founded
{ACHAEAN_LEAGUE_BODY} The Achaean League is reformed by twelve towns in the northern Peloponnesus. It is governed by a federal council with proportional representation of members and an annual assembly of all free citizens in Aegion.\nThe League achieves a common coinage and foreign policy and the member cities pool their armed forces. Executive power and army command are in the hands of the strategos who is annually elected, as well as his deputy, the hipparch.

    {PYRRHUS_TITLE} Pyrrhus in Italy
{PYRRHUS_BODY} At invitation of the citizens of Tarentum king Pyrrhus of Epirus has crossed the Adriatic Sea. Hoping to make himself king of the Greeks in Magna Graecia and Sicily, he has brought a corps of mercenaries, including even a number of elephants, to fight against the Romans and the Carthaginians.

    {COLOSSUS_COMPLETED_TITLE} Colossus Completed
{COLOSSUS_COMPLETED_BODY} The Colossus of Rhodes is completed by the sculptor Chares of Lindos after twelve years' work. It becomes one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The Colossus of Rhodes is a giant statue of the Greek god Helios. It stands 70 cubits tall, over 30 metres (100 feet), making it the tallest statue of the ancient world.

(The last message has a sequel, so don't miss the punishment reserved to Decius!)

The above are all events from 280/279 BC, which may explain why we have chosen the year 280 to start our scenario.

    Now some later entries!

    This is taken from Athenaion:
    {PERFUME_TITLE} Egyptian Perfume is Best
{PERFUME_BODY} Greatly favoured by the queens of Egypt, the unguents made in Alexandria are brought to high perfection, on account of the wealth of the city, and the attention that Arsinoe and Berenice pay to such matters.\nThe perfumes called Metopian and Mendesian are prepared with the greatest skill in Egypt, although the Metopian is made of oil which is extracted from bitter almonds. The extract of vine-leaves is made best in Cyprus and the best perfume from marjoram and from apples comes from Cos. Egypt also bears the palm for its essence of henna; and the next best is the Cyprian. And the finest extract of roses in the world is made at Cyrene.

    Another news flash from Egypt:
    {PHOENIX_TITLE} The Phoenix at Heliopolis
{PHOENIX_BODY} After a long period of absence, the bird known as the phoenix visited Egypt again. The wonder has been reported in Heliopolis, supplying the learned of Egypt and Greece with the material for long disquisitions on the miracle.\n\nThe creature is sacred to the sun and clearly distinguished from other birds by its head and the variegation of its plumage. The scholars of the Museum affirm that the visit of the phoenix falls into regular intervals, beginning with the reign of Sesosis, then of Amasis, and now of Ptolemy. During the earlier visits it came to the city of Heliopolis with a great escort of common birds amazed at the novelty of the appearance.\n\nIt is believed that the phoenix is originated in Arabia, and the tale goes, that when its sum of years is complete and death is drawing on, it builds a nest in its own country and sheds on it a procreative influence, from which springs a young one, whose first care on reaching maturity is to bury his sire. Nor is that task performed at random, but, after raising a weight of myrrh and proving it by a far flight, so soon as he is a match for his burden and the course before him, he lifts up his father's corpse, conveys him to the Altar of the Sun, and consigns him to the flames.\n\nThe details are uncertain and heightened by fable; but that the bird occasionally appears in Egypt is unquestioned.

This one is drawn from Livy:
    {DUEL_TITLE} Famous Duel at Capua
{DUEL_BODY} The Campanian champion Cerrinus Vibellius, surnamed Taurea, has challenged the Roman Claudius Asellus to a spectacular duel on horseback.\n\nPermission being granted by his commanders, Asellus rode to the outpost, where he called Taurea by name, ready to meet him wherever he pleased. The Romans had already gone out in crowds to watch the duel, and the Campanians had not only lined the rampart of their camp, but had gathered in large numbers on the fortifications of the city.\n\nAfter a great flourish of words and expressions of mutual defiance they levelled their spears and spurred their horses. As there was plenty of space they kept evading each other's thrusts and the fight went on without either being wounded. Then the Campanian said to the Roman: "This will be a trial of skill between the horses and not their riders unless we leave the open and go down into this hollow lane. There will be no room for swerving aside there, we shall fight at close quarters." Almost before the words were out of his mouth, Claudius leaped his horse into the lane, and Taurea, bolder in words than deeds, shouted, "Never be an ass in a ditch," and this expression became a rustic proverb. After riding some distance along the lane and finding no opponent, Claudius got into the open and returned to camp, saying strong things about the cowardice of his adversary. He was welcomed as victor with cheers and congratulations by his comrades.\n\nIn the accounts of this duel on horseback some annalists record an additional circumstance, saying that Claudius went in pursuit of Taurea who fled to the city, and galloped in through one open gate and out through another unhurt, the enemy standing dumbfounded at the extraordinary sight.

    A funny philosopher:
    {LACYDES_TITLE} Lacydes Resigns the Academy
{LACYDES_BODY} Lacydes of Cyrene, the successor of Arcesilaus, resigns his post as Head of the Academy, the Athenian university founded by Plato.\nConsidered the founder of the New Academy, Lacydes is described as a man of very serious character, industrious from his youth up and, though poor, of pleasant manners and pleasant conversation. His pupils report that he had a goose which always followed him around wherever he might go.\n\nHead of the school for 26 years, Lacydes used to lecture in the Academy, in the garden which had been laid out by King Attalus, and from him it derived its name of Lacydeum. He did what none of his predecessors had ever done; in his lifetime he handed over the school to Telecles and Evander, both of Phocaea.\nA good saying is attributed to Lacydes. When king Attalus of Pergamum sent for him, he is said to have remarked that statues are best seen from a distance.

    Two unusual ports:
    {MAGO_TITLE} The Port of Mago
{MAGO_BODY} The Carthaginian general Mago takes refuge on the Balearic island Minorica and fortifies the harbor, eventually founding the city of Mago. During their stay the Carthaginians appreciate a creamy sauce made of olive oil, egg yolk and lemon juice, which is destined to ruin the physical shape of millions of people under the name of Mayonnaise.

    {TYLOS_TITLE} The Island of Tylos
{TYLOS_BODY} The Seleucid king restores the liberty of the Gerrhaeans and sails to the verdant island of Tylos in the Persian Gulf, which is not only a center of pearl trading, but has also large plantations of cotton tree.

    Serious fun: Cato about women!
    {OPPIA_II_TITLE} Lex Oppia Discussed
{OPPIA_II_BODY} Following a proposal to repeal the Lex Oppia approved 20 years earlier, the law has been discussed in the Roman Senate.\n\nThe sumptuary law was defended by Marcus Porcius Cato, who argued that it removed the shame of poverty because it made all women dress in an equal fashion. Cato insisted that if women could engage in a clothes-contest, they would either feel shame in the presence of other women, or on the contrary, they would delight in a rather base victory as a result of extending themselves beyond their means. He also declared that a woman’s desire to spend money was a disease that could not be cured, but only restrained. As a consequence the removal of the law would render society helpless in limiting the expenditures of women. Cato pronounced that Roman women, already corrupted by luxury, were like wild animals who have once tasted blood in the sense that they can no longer be trusted to restrain themselves from rushing into an orgy of extravagance.

(This argument has three entries, so don't miss the conclusion!)

    Finally some sports:
    {LEONIDAS_I_TITLE} Leonidas Wins Three Crowns
{LEONIDAS_I_BODY} Leonidas of Rhodes wins all three running competitions at the Olympic Games: the Stadion, the Diaulos, and the Hoplitodromos.
    {LEONIDAS_II_TITLE} Leonidas Does It Again!
{LEONIDAS_II_BODY} Four years after his first triumph Leonidas of Rhodes wins again and is crowned three more times victor at the Olympic Games.
    {LEONIDAS_III_TITLE} Leonidas Takes It All!
{LEONIDAS_III_BODY} Winning his Olympic crowns number seven, eight and nine, Leonidas of Rhodes is still the undisputed king of the Olympic running competitions.
{LEONIDAS_IV_TITLE} The Greatest Sprinter in History
{LEONIDAS_IV_BODY} Twelve years after his first triumph, Leonidas of Rhodes is still unbeatable. Despite his age of 36 years, he is still able to outrun his younger competitors and comfirms himself master of the Stadion, the Diaulos, and the Hoplitodromos. With a record of twelve Olympic victories he is widely acclaimed as the greatest sprinter of all times.

These are only a few. There are 180 more interesting messages waiting to be discovered.

Yes, it would be fabulous that the Marian Reforms's script appears only in the year 107 bc, correctly (which historically happens). I say this , because the Reforms triggers in the year 219 bc, during the Second Punic War, though, that for me, it is unreal. Would be awesome to change that and place the marian's scripts far in the furture. By the way, congrats for the mod, it is the best i've ever played after all these years, wherein actually i used to play often after my days off.

    cheers!

What a ghastly mess. I spent a couple of hours trying to install the thing only to be met with dreck when I finally got it to start. Mixing new and vanilla units look truly horrid; advisor images swap sex but the vocals remain in the original gender; an expansive campaign map but the terrain looks abysmal. The game mechanics and campaigns might be fantastic but I couldn't look at this for more than a few minutes without wanting to throw up. Massive fail.

    Hi, Siegfriedus,
thanks a lot for your kind comment. I'm currently working on version 2.1, but since I have several other projects going (most of my time goes for a novel placed in the Hellenistic era), I can't tell when it could be finished.
In the meantime have fun with RTH 2.0.
