    Default Two small queries

    Hello folks,

I have two short and (hopefully) simple queries relating to the campaign:

    1) When ending your turn, whatever music track is playing quickly gets interrupted and stops. Is there a way to make it so it simply continues as you wait for other factions to play their turns?

    2) Is it possible to remove winter?

I should probably also say that I am using MOS 1.7.

    Thank you in advance

well seasons are scripted bound,u can see that when u open console and press arrow pointing top on ur keyboard,it shows season_summer,or winter,i guess if u type season_summer and its winter it will change it but u would have to do it every second or every turn i fear,OR u can dig in files and disable the script manualy.i hate winter also

Thank you for your reply. I'm aware of the console commands, and incessant tries to change it throughout the years by typing "season_summer" etc have not worked and I have no idea why this might be. What I need is some guidance on digging in files manually to alter the scripts if they're not too troublesome.

I ask for more guidance on this matter from anyone and indeed my first question relating to the music, nevertheless thank you for your attention (and to anyone else coming here, please pardon my modding ignorance )

Edit: I've managed to find this thread again http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...-No-Winter-Mod, and I remember trying this a few years back and it failing to work, but I will give it a try once again in the hopes that I simply did something wrong last time.

More edit: Success! I think the reason it failed last time was because I tried to activate it on a saved game. Starting a new game with this script solves the issue and winter has been removed. Hopefully this will be of use for anyone else wanting to get rid of the winter season.

I would still appreciate help on the less pressing matter of the music.

    1) I don't know but it would be a M2TW thing, so if nobody answers it here then try the Workshop instead. The Sounds subforum would be the place.

Ah, thank you for the redirection. That sub-forum does seem a tad inactive however, so I will await any further assistance here before asking there.

Not many people ask sound questions and fewer answer them, that's true, but you're more likely to reach the ears of someone with relevant knowledge there than here. I can think of four M2TW modding experts, off the top of my head, who I never see here in the TATW forum. But yes: still a good chance that it won't be answered there either, and better to not ask in more than one place at the same time.

If you open up "descr_sounds_generic.txt" in notepad++ and search for "end_turn_012.mp3" you will see that the game is waiting for (programmed) to switch to a new sound giving feedback to the player that the "end_turn" was indeed activated.
You could try and ";" it out, but you may just get silence, or even an error (Edit: OR you may also get a m2tw vanilla default sound -- Been many weeks since I last edited sound files - just remembered this now)

You could always replace that end turn mp3 with your own file. I'm guessing that is probably the best you can do with m2tw.
If you do follow that route make sure to read up some tuts on sound file editing and do a backup first; You'll find them in the same general area as where Withwnar recommended you go.

Edit: if you do make any test changes, would be interested to hear how they went.

I had a bit of a look into this and it seems that when the turn end button is clicked two things happen:

    1) It stops the music that is currently playing (and starts up again next turn)
    2) It plays that end_turn_012.mp3 during the turn end (or other music in vanilla M2TW)

    1) might be caused by 2), so yeah: removing the turn end event or music might solve it. But 1) might also be hardcoded behaviour. I don't know.

I thank you both for your efforts.

What I have done is I have (at least I think) successfully removed the entries for "end_turn_012.mp3" under "End Turn Sounds - Culture Specific" in the descr_sounds_generic.txt file as twmatador suggested. I also went on to extract all of the sound files, remove the end_turn_012.mp3 file manually, and then regenerate the events.dat and events.idx files. I managed to remove the end turn sound from playing when I pressed end turn, however, whatever music was playing beforehand still stopped immediately, and there was simply silence, like the usual, except this time without the end turn sound playing. This leads me to believe that it may in fact be hardcoded, but I could be wrong

I may or may not proceed to learn a bit more about sound file editing so I can replace it with my own mp3 file. But the thing is - I don't want new audio to play, I just want the music that was playing to keep on playing!

    Thanks for reporting back.
That sounds like a reasonable outcome - considering that the devs probably really would want to "confirm" to a player that end-turn has been activated.
I never ran across any other relevant switches in back-end in my exploration travels.

Sounds like you may really have to stretch the concept of "head-cannoning" to keep the music playing
Though, I really can recommend your own custom end turn mp3 - especially if you blend multiple audio sources.

    You're very welcome!

In response to your recommendation - which seems like my only option now - I've already sourced multiple mp3s that play as campaign tracks, any one of which I would love to play as the end turn track, as most of these last for 1-2 minutes, which is incidentally the average duration I have to wait for a turn to end (otherwise I wouldn't be inquiring about this in the first place, and yes, I am aware of the solution of not having kingdoms installed inside program files, but I have the steam version and from what I've read it would be a right faff to move it all).

I suppose what I need is a tutorial on sound files editing, but I am most certainly not afraid to say that I am afraid of buggering things up!

Edit: Odd, in relation to turn times, the next time I went into my campaign after posting this reply, my turn times have suddenly started to be a lot quicker, 15-30 seconds perhaps, if this is the case then this issue does not bother me much at all - how very odd! (Still, it's worth investigating, as I don't know if this will be permanent).
