Default Chambers of Lord Alan Tarly

Here resides Lord Alan Tarly, so called the Quarreller and the Red Giant of Tarly. For his support to the Blacks and her Grace, Queen Rhaenyra I, he was named Warden of the South and appointed as Master of Laws. Now he serves in that quality in the Small Council and as one of the regents to his Grace, King Aegon III. His quarters are wide and lavishly furbished, as fitting for such a highborn and influential Lord. Tarly's men stand watch and guard their lord's chambers. Ocasionally also reside here his eldest son, Garlan Tarly, and his wife, Alerie Rowan.

    BIOGRAPHY:

Lord Alan Tarly is a temperamental mal. He wasn’t a sweet child either, always involved in endless fights and quarrels with grooms, squires and servants. Alyn was always covered in scabs and bruises and running through Horn Hill’s halls wooden sword in hand. A large child, he was used to fight and win and he only grew taller and wilder later in life. He squired at young age and was knighted early, when he was merely four-and-ten and given Heartsbane, the ancestral sword of his House, one year later.

More than six feet and seven inches tall, Alan is one of the tallest men in the realm. His frame, wide, muscular and robust, is always clad in scarlet robes, from head to toe. A mountain of a man, with impressive strength, Lord Tarly is always excessive; hot-blooded, gluttonous, lustful, wrathful, prideful, ambitious, voraciously thirsty, open-handed to the point of being a wastrel and incredibly stubborn. A phenomenal duelist, warrior and jouster there are few who can face in the tourney fields or in battle. Clad in an impressive scarlet armor, as red as his blood, Tarly towers in the battlefield and few can resist his charge. Tarly is also an avid hunter skilled both with a longbow and a spear, but he’s surpassed by his eldest son, Ser Garlan.

However, Alan is no fool but a clever and astute man, deceitful and cunning. To make his foes yield he either uses his sheer strength or the sharpness of his mind. He shows little respect for the Faith and its servants and is known to dress his buffoon, a dwarf called Jellyfish, in septon’s robes.

He married twice, first to the educated, cultured and shy Lady Gwynesse Florent, despite his mother’s complains about her fragility and narrow hips. She proved strong enough to bear four living children (a pair of twins were stillborn), but finally died in childbirth. Secondly, he married the gluttonous, plump and not-that-pretty (he married her because her large dowry) Lady Alerie Rowan, sister of Lord Thaddeus Rowan, who bore him four more children one of whom died of greyscale still on the cradle.

He raised his banners in support of Queen Rhaenyra, and after her victory was rewarded with the Wardenship over the South and the Master of Laws office.

    "Royce"

Said Tarly, who sat behind his desk in an immense chair, fitting for his colossal size.

"I suppose the riots bring you here"

"Our cavalry would be useless in those alleys"

Said Tarly while unfolding a large map of the city.

"We need heavy-infantrymen, in close formation, able to sweep the enemy's ranks. Maybe polearms. Reinforced by scores of archers that can clean roofs and windows. The enemy doesn't have heavy troops, we do. Discipline, good steel and close ranks will give us victory against this rabble"

"How many men do we have in total?" Royce asks the other man. "I could summon an extra 1000 men from Runestone if necessary, but it will take time time we do not have."

Add to that the diminished numbers of the Goldcloaks"

"They're rabble from Flea Bottom, don't forget it. And green. I'd cut every head that raises five feet from the ground on that dump and filthy place. I'll reap their lives like grain, Lord Royce. And I won't mourn it"

The same day as his arrival in the capital, Lord Darklyn requests an audience with the Master of Laws, Lord Alan Tarly.

The giant of Tarly sits behind the colossal desk in a colossal chair, his mere presence filling the room. His lordship raises his gaze from a large pile of parchments he was reading. Being Master of Laws had attached certain responsibilities, paperwork was one of them.

"Lord Darklyn, we welcome to my chambers, what can I do for you?"

He offers him a large hand.

    Grasping the outstretched hand, Tristan responded coolly, with little emotion;

"Lord Tarly. I am, as of yet, unwed. I have come to you hoping to rectify this."

He laughed and slammed the table with his open hand, shaking the inkpot.

"I can rectify that! I have daughters a plenty! Blossomed flowers of the Reach, each more beautiful than the later, educated, pious and well-endowed. Tell me, Lord Darklyn, how are is your lordship"

Darklyn's mouth stretched slightly into a small smile, though it did not reach his eyes.

"I am glad to hear it, Lord Tarly. I am in need of an heir, to continue my line, for my cousin will soon be sworn into the Kingsguard."

ooc: oopss, that phrase lacked an "old"! "How old is your lordship?"

"My eldest daughter, born to my first wife, Lady Gwynesse Florent, would be an excellent bride. Beautiful like the Mander under the moonlight a Summer's night!"

He sighed, for Lord Alan loved every daughter born from his loins.

    "Selyse, Lady Selyse Tarly"

Still unmarried as she had been unwilling to chose a husband and his father was reluctant to press her on such delicate matters. However, he would hate if she remained unwed; a lonesome and bitter woman she would become on her elderly years. Tarly doesn't want that.

"I am five and thirty, Lord Tarly." Tristan replied, calm and collected. He was quite the contrast to the large and rather vocal Tarly.
"I shall come to Horn Hill as soon as I am able, to meet my intended. Is this acceptable?"

    He laughed.
