    Default Another Problem W/ Gold

I just tried to install a "new" copy of MTW II as my friend had destroyed my old, original copy. Anyway I go to install it after completely uninstalling all of my old copy of the game both through install programs and picking through my D: drive to remove any MTW II files manually. I then try to install my NEW copy of the game that I just bought from Amazon as I don't care to give Steam any more of my money and I get a failure to install.

The launch screen comes up normally and shows that I have nothing installed in the left column and allows me to choose anything in the right column, install and visit various sites. I click install and get: Cannot Determine the installed game language for Medieval II Total War: Gold...

No where has it asked me for the language of choice. Everything on the box is in English and it does have its own ID code which I don't even get to enter before the failure to install comes up.

    Has anyone seen this before?

Use C Cleaner to remove all the old files and then reinstall.

Alternatively after using CC Cleaner you could/should convert install disc to steam:

Thank you for the response. I will do just that.

Quick Question: If I convert to steam will I still be able to open the pack files for my own personal text file editing?

Yes, the steam version is virtually the same as the cd version with unpackers included.

I would recommend using Bare Geomod or the Retrofit mod as a base to copy files into for modding, so you don't alter the vanilla files and you can back-up easily. Basically you will be creating your own mod

Unpack the pack files into a separate directory to avoid validation issues: Creating a World - Unpacking the Game
