Hammerhorn Castle is the keep of the main line of House Goodbrother. It is one of the largest castles on Great Wyk, standing as the bastion of power for House Goodbrother. Hammerhorn Castle rests upon Hardstone Hill and was built from material mined within the caves beneath the castle. House Goodbrother gets much of its wealth from the mines below the castle where the smallfolk of Great Wyk work to draw out both iron and stone in great quantities. Like many castles of the Ironborn nobility, Hammerhorn is dark and dank.

The current Lord of Hammerhorn Castle is Gelmarr of House Goodbrother, son of the late Greydon Goodbrother.

Household of Goodbrother

House Goodbrother of Hammerhorn

House Goodbrother of Hammerhorn is a well-known house among the Iron Islands for being one of the most powerful houses among the Ironborn, save the Harlaws of Harlaw and the Greyjoys of Pyke. Like many of the ruling and landed houses of the Iron Islands, Goodbrother is an ancient lineage, claiming descent from the loyal eldest brother of the Grey King, which is a claim unlike any other among the Ironborn. Among this lineage lines a notable Iron King, Urrathon IV, the Badbrother. Urrathon was known as Badbrother for almost extinguishing House Greyiron when the Goodbrother was elected as the successor Urragon III of House Greyiron. Urrathon ruled for two years before being slayed and overthrown by Torgon the Latecomer of House Greyiron. Despite such a tyrant in the annals of the house's history, Goodbrother remained powerful and strong. It has a few cadet branches even located at Downdelving, Crow Spike Keep and Corpse Lake. They are known as the Lords of Hammerhorn Keep and the High Lords of Great Wyk

Gelmarr Goodbrother, Lord of Hammerhorn and High Lord of Great Wyk

Age: 38 (born 91 AC)
Alias(s): Gelmarr 'the Stormbreaker,' Gelmarr 'the Salt-Drinker,' and the 'Cunning Brother'
Marital Status: No Rock Wife, but 3 Salt Wives from Essos

Bio: Gelmarr of the House Goodbrother is the son of the late Greydon and was known as a rather reckless boy and ruthless man. Growing up, Gelmarr would look up his uncle, Torwyn the Black Reaver, a man who accomplished far more than Greydon who was mroe focused on keeping the cadet branches of their family in line. It was around the age of 16 that the young Goodbrother would meet the future Lord Reaper of Pyke, Wulfgar of House Greyjoy. Gelmarr would follow Wulfgar to the Greenlander city of Oldtown and even to the far reaches of Essos. His uncle would follow him upon the latter journey as he despised the Greenlanders just as any Ironborn would. Both journeys would teach Gelmarr much, just as it did for Wulfgar. It was at Oldtown that the young Goodbrother read the tales of the old Iron Kings, of Badbrother and House Hoare. This made him educated in some ways. Essos, however, taught the young Gelmarr much as battlefields on land and sea forged him into a fearsome and reputable warrior, claiming a few fertile and beautiful saltwives along the way. Yet tragedy struck when Torwyn was slayed by a pirate. Rage filled the young Ironborn who hunted the pirate's ship across the seas till it reached Stepstones. At the time of the battle, a fierce storm broke out, but Gelmarr kept pushing forward. Upon breaking through the storm, the Goodbrother jumped from his ship and slew the pirate who killed his uncle in one stroke. Thus the name Stormbreaker was given to Gelmarr, a name both respected and feared by all around him. With such a deed performed, the Goodbrother would return home for Great Wyk to bury his uncle.

Upon returning the Iron Islands, Gelmarr learned of his father's untimely death; the Drowned God seeing it fit to take his father's ship one day. For three days, the Goodbrother gazed at the ocean, neither eating nor drinking, save the salt water that licked his bare feet. Craghorn and other Drowned Priests believed that Gelmarr was trying to draw upon the knowledge and wisdom of the Drowned God by drinking the water of his domain. After three days, the Goodbrother left his spot and went to bury his father and uncle. Having witnessed the death of his uncle and buried his father, young and reckless boy would die during those three days and, from the seas, would rise the ruthless and cunning Lord of Hammerhorn and High Lord of Great Wyk that he is known as today. He has taken a few salt wives, but has no legitimate rock wife of his own.
