I installed 4.0 and then 4.1 without issues, started the game without issues but when I pick a faction and click on start campaign, it gets me back to the previous menu!
EDIT: deleted the rvm, I thought that would be unnecessary if you haven't played 4.0.

I have never had any problems with pirates. They have a few fleets around, but if you are a maritime nation your ships should usually defeat them in battle.

Hey need help with playing the mod
So yea if you've gone over this sorry to bring it up again.
I downloaded 4.0 and the 4.1 but I didnt directly download it to my steamapps, common, m2tw mod folder (maybe thats why) and deleted the map.rvm file but I cant start the game. When I start the game it goes to the black command screen/window then fails saying cant find kingdoms.exe So I moved the TIW mod to my mods folder, put it within a folder and renamed teutonics so I could open the mod through that way. Thats how i open SS6.4 if your following me
So yea where did I go wrong? should I uninstall and then reinstall following a different procedure?

The path seems correct to me, steam/steamapps/common/m2tw/mods..
The executable files of these version haven't got the new lines for the steam path included.
So please try the following:
Just, rename the folder back into italian_wars and move it back to its former directory.
Then open the .bat file, which you'll find inside the italian_wars folder.
Just open it with a txt editor and overwrite the current lines with these here:
Now, you can start the mod from a shortcut of this .bat file from your desktopCode:@echo off cd ..\.. IF EXIST kingdoms.exe (start kingdoms.exe @%0\..\DIK.cfg) ELSE (start medieval2.exe @%0\..\DIK.cfg)
