Why priests becoming heretics?

Ive been recruiting alot of priests in my campaign thinking i was fighting back the tide of heretics but the more I recruited them the more I was flooded with heretics, until I realized my priests were becoming heretics. The unorthodox/odd habits trait which I suspect is the reason, is very common in most of my priests but why is that?

Probably because the region is too low on your faction's religion (click on the priest then hover your mouse over the land to see the faith percentages). Low piety in a low religion area is a bad combination from my experience

But I thought priests were supposed to fix that, how else would I raise it without priests.

there is always someone who wants too be a heretic,and so ther be some ,even if there is a region of 100 % catholic belief,there can still be a priest who will become a heretic.
