Default Storm's End - Seat of House Baratheon

Storm's End - Seat of House Baratheon

    Household

    House Baratheon of Storm's End

    Michael Baratheon Lord Monfyrd Baratheon

Monfyrd Baratheon, Lord of Storm’s End, High Lord of Shipbreaker Bay and Lord Paramount of the Stormlands
Age: 42 in 129 AC (born in 87 AC)
Rank: Lord of a Great House
    Traits (10 points):
    Battles +2
    Survival +2
    Duel +3
    Charisma +3

    Bio:
As the son of Boremund Baratheon, Monfryd Baratheon stems from the line of Orys Baratheon and the line of House Durrandon, the storm kings. He, like many other highborn men from the Stormlands, was brought up in the martial traditions of its hardened people. Sword and shield and lance, as well as any other weapon, Michael had to master before coming of age. As part of his training, he served as a page and later as a squire for Lord Selmy from the Dornish Marches. There the young Baratheon battled Dornish raiders at the foot of the Red Mountains, side by side with the marcher lords. Michael grew to become a strong knight, the image of Orys Baratheon with his long black hair, blue eyes and tall body with broad shoulders. A man who preferred the heat of battle to words, he rarely left his beloved Stormlands to get involved with the courtly politics of King's Landing. Instead, he often visited his bannermen, feasting in their halls to strengthen their bond of loyalty.

Monfyrd Baratheon married a lady of House Swann, who gave him three daughters: Eleanor, Perrianne and Falyse. The Three Does, as some have come to call them, are perhaps the ones he treasure most of all. In his youth, under Jaehaerys the Old King's reign and Viserys' early years, Michael never cared for politics nor the rest of the Seven Kingdoms. After the tourney of 111 AC, though, the forming of the blacks and the greens caught his interest. Lord Boremund was an outspoken supporter of Princess Rhaenyra, in contrast to his son who never officially picked a side. Michael became more watchful of the major events of the realm, continuing as Boremund passed and he became Lord of Storm's End.

With the death of King Viserys, Lord Baratheon is in the Stormlands, training his martial prowess, yet ever watchful of the rest of the Seven Kingdoms. Some believe he will declare for Rhaenyra like his late father, but there is much uncertainty in the times that would come to be known as the Dance of the Dragons.

Approaching from the southwest, a retinue of several dozen horsemen flying the banners of the lords of the Redwatch and Stag of Baratheon approaches Storm's End. Lord Swann had spent the war defending the realm from the menace lurking in the Red Mountains and further beyond, the Dornish. While he somewhat regretted not being present at King's Landing or going with Caron to lead the surviving forces, the duty to defend the realm from the Dornish overruled any other thoughts of his. Lucifer dismounts in the courtyard of Storm's End and walks with a small retinue to the Great Hall.

OOC: Made a new thread, the old post was left in Jokern's old thread.

Petros of Tarth is brought forth to the main keep Lord Baratheon was. Wounds from the battle at King's Landing had forced the Lord Paramount to heal at home and among his kin. He rested upon his seat in the main hall, a maester cleaning a wound upon his leg. His eyes glanced at Petros before speaking.

    This war will not last...

Lord Swann is sent forth into the main hall where many other nobles left to defend the Stormlands were gathering. With the war over, many kindred souls and houses linked by age-old alliances and marriages came together to speak among one another. Lord Michael of the House Baratheon remained upon his seat; his leg bounded tightly and healing from the struggle at King's Landing. He remained ever silent among the gathering nobles.

Lucifer, along with Lord Monfyrd's eldest daughter and heir Eleanor, who had been sent south with her uncle to defend the Stormlands from the Dornish throughout the war, and several of his retainers approach Monfyrd, the Lord of the Redwatch bowing when they reached him. "My lord. The Dornish did not attack in large numbers but did strike at Nightsong several times, mostly raiding parties from House Fowler."Lucifer pauses for a moment."Roughly a year and a half ago, news that the Prince Martell apparently died, and the new Princess of Dorne from what I know from the few merchants who stop in Stonehelm, is actively encouraging raids on our lands to gain our favor..I have ordered an increase of my fleet and levy in preparation for the possibility of increased raids in the future, preparations that recently have been compelted." "Which will come, considering we were on the losing side of the war, the Dornish may think they can get away with raiding our lands.." he thinks to himself.

ooc: This is just so you may know what happened ICly. Btw, even if Michael is a made up char I'd like you to keep the lore Baratheons to this point, including the Velaryon connection, because that adds further prestige to my own char, Lord Caron, who is related to your Lord (see my homethread)

A raven arrived from the Riverlands:

To Lord Michael Baratheon, my father and cousin:

My Lord Baratheon, during your prolongued illness, due the wounds bravely inflicted upon you at King's Landing, I've been leading the armies of the Stormlands. Recently word of your recovery reached us. It seemed cowardly to stand at the Bronzegate my Lord, and we marched to inflict a defeat on the enemy, in the very heart of their lands. We laid siege to Riverrun, but a Northern host arrived and menaced to hammer us against its walls. We have prepared our host to battle, the stag proudly displayed above our heads along the cream of the Stormlander nobility's heraldry. Nithingales, sleeping lions and griffins. We will show the traitors how the Stormlands fight. Now, we brace ourselves for battle my Lord, shall the Warrior grant us strenght and bravery in these dire times. I shall honor your cause, your name and your house in this incoming battle. As soon the battle ends I will report the outcome to you, my Lord.

In the Light of the Seven,

    Lord Lyonel Caron.

Monfyrd turns his gaze to Lucifer Swann. It was a hard and weathered gaze as Lord Baratheon was few of words these days. It wasn't the aura of defeat that hung over his head however, it was something else...

Dorne will be taught a lesson in due time, Lord Swann. We must tend to the Dornishes Marches and tighten our grip in the waters we share with those southerners. Continue building your fleet and levy to better numbers, Lord Swann. For the Dornishes Marches protect our land while you must tend to the waters.

Lucifer nods. "Of course, my lord." He pauses for a moment. "Perhaps I shall have to visit Braavos to seek trade with the city, apparently their Arsenal is capable of building a ship in a day or so some of their merchants who visit Stonehelm claim. Having some ships from there would benefit the fleet..along with greater coordination with Lord Estermont."

After paying a large ramson Lord Caron was released. Licking his wounded pride and still pale and thin from his captivity Lord Baratheon's cousin and son-in-law arrives to Storm's End, his banner depicting his personal heraldry, the nightingales and stag, quartered.

Lord Caron is permitted to join the other lords gathering at Storm's End. Monfyred's usual cold and silent gaze locks upon Caron for a moment before the slightest gesture of his hand is made. A servant rushes out with warm water, fresh clothes and a proper meal for the cousin of Lord Baratheon.

Lord Lannister is permitted to enter the keep of the Baratheons. He is greeted by the silence of Monfyrd who was earning a reputation for his silence since the day that he had to bend his knee to the Victorious Queen. Lord Baratheon calmly looks at the raven's note for a moment before speaking to Tyrek.

Lord Lannister, you come to claim one of my daughters for your household. Why the Baratheons?

"Thank you, my lord." Lord Swann then bows and goes to sit with his vassals and a few other of the Stormlords, discussing politics mostly.

    Lord Baratheon
It is with humble respect that I, Lord Tyrek Lannister first of his name, request a marriage joining our houses. I ride soon for Storms End so that I may meet with you personally. I did not want either my presence of my request to come at a surprise. Sincerely, *name and titles*

Caron, every inch a stag rushes to the side of his lord and kneels before him.

    "Lord Manfyrd"

    He grabs his cousin's hand.

"I was defeated, our army routed. I apologize sire, my life if yours. Do as you must to punish me"

    However his gaze was fiery.

"However, we owe our defeat to the West. They didn't come. My plot to strike the Riverlands would have been successful had they come that day. Only Reyne marched forward to meet us, alas too late as the meek Lannister surrendered, losing his honor, his pride and his reputation!"

I am aware of the Lannisters slothful tactics under Jason's rule. A Lannister is to come to court, wishing the hand of one of my daughters. Perhaps you can speak to him in person, Lord Caron.

You are Lord Lannister damnit, do not forget it.

Of all the people in Westeros, I understand that popular opinion of ones House does not change the make of its members. As for House Caron, I am well traveled and quite weary. If he would meet with me on this day however I would try my hand at making amends. The events of the war are still blurry with half truths however, do you know who was supposed to be in command of the forces intended to provide that support? If you do it would allow me to act swiftly concerning their actions.
Monfyrd glances at a servant who bows and rushes off to find Lord Caron for the Baratheon. Lord Baratheon turns his gaze back to Tyrek.

You are in luck, Lord Lannister. For Lord Caron is my keep, nursing his wounds from captivity and battle received from Riverrun and his imprisonment by Lord Darry.

    Caron looked at his cousin.

"I will speak him in person my Lord, as you wish. However, I will have to refrain from slapping him!"

He was boiling with rage. Baratheon's blood.

His black hair combed backwards and his beard well-trimmed, well-build and tall. Lord Lyonel's bright blue eyes stare at Lannister as he approached both Lord. Codly he says:

    "Lord Lannister"

He was tempted to slap or stab the young lion. And then, turning to his cousin:

"My Lord, here I am, at your request"

Tyrek bowed in respect to the Baratheon. His father fought on the same side as him, for the most part, during the war but then again his father didn't do a whole lot of fighting. Tyrek looked around the keep and admired for another moment before answering. Since the days of old house Baratheon has been a pinnacle of strength and honor. The Stormlands showed that in a war that my Father did little to help. I will rectify the mistakes of my father but before I do that I have to ensure that my line continues. I wish my sons to have the strength and honor your house has displayed for hundreds of years. Aside from that I believe a renewal of faith between the Lannisters and the Baratheons, on my end, is required because while the war is over I can understand if the relationship between our houses has thinned. I said just a moment ago that I wish to secure my family first and then rectify the mistakes of my father when in fact, being blessed with a marriage to your house would be the beginning of both. What say you Lord Baratheon?

Lord Baratheon looks at Tyrek quietly for now before speaking slowly.

Pinnacle of strength and honor? The Victorious Queen would speak differently, Lord Lannister. She call us traitors, usurpers, and false in our allegiances. She was willing to throw treason upon my shoulders, but I managed to anger her enough to have her send me away without a punishment laid upon my head. And with the role of the Lannisters during the war, their rather inactive one, I do not know if my Stormlords would agree to the marriage. Especially Lord Caron who hoped to link with your forces, only to be betrayed and cornered at Riverrun and defeated.

His request was my own, Lord Caron. I am Tyrek Lannister. Son of Jason. I am quite aware of your Houses misfortune during the war but there is a bit of ambiguity that needs clearing up before I can properly see amends made. Tyrek said without wasting time. It is my understanding that your house was promised Westerland aide and none arrived. You lost many men, and the families of those men must be wounded deeper that we here could ever really know. I am prepared to make a financial contribution to allay a modicum of their hardship. However, Can I ask who was supposed to be providing reinforcement and how exactly the arrangements were made and proceeded?
