    Default The Timurids

In my current game as the Turks i got the movie about the Timurids invading this time, the Mongols are near defeated in my game. So a new wave of hordes has arrived near Yerevan. Dont know if any other guys have got this too? Any tactics against them?

They are hard to beat. Simple as that. Multiple stacks of high experience troops lead by close to perfect generals.

Think it's a bit harsh on Eastern factions, Crusades are bad enough without having to worry about the Mongols and Timurids.
I reckon Mongols should spawn in Russia and generally stay North and the Timurids should stay the same to ease the stress on the Arab factions.

Mongols either spawn near Baghdad, Yerevan or Sarkel. The Timurids spawn location is also varied like this.

I've managed to beat the Timurids down a bit with one high level general, but each time it takes many more Byzantine soldiers than they take. Probably a 2:3 ratio even, and it didn't bode well at first considering he had multiple stacks coming at me.

To fight the Timurids, prepare Baghdad and all the cities along the route to Antioch. Fill it and them with janissary heavy infantry, a couple of hand gunners, whatever cannons you can. Then withdraw into the center of the city after they take the walls and pull back. Prepare ambushes in the streets, flanks, and just churn it out. I managed to take two for every one of theirs when I managed to force them into attacking a city like that. That's basically all there is to it: Put your best infantry troops and missile troops in and fight in the streets. Leverage your superior production to wear them down until you can concentrate overwhelming force on what is left and destroy them. It took hours, it annoyed the hell out of me, because I had to manage the sieges myself, but you should wear them down to a nub. And if they take a city, be prepared to hunt down the respawned horde like a dog and crush them. What I dislike about the Timurids is they have unlimited money, which never seemed to fail them, unlike the Mongols, and they do not begin to recede after 1408, when the real Timur died and that empire began to crater...

If they dont have upkeep and infinite money then maybe you need to ask yourself if it would be alright to give yourself some money with a cheat.

Its all personal opinion though. It seems to me that egypt or turks might really need it for survival. It wouldnt beat the enemies but it would give you the funds to have a force big enough to at least put up a good fight against the mongols, timurids and crusaders.

do you know what I think? I think that they should have let the game start a lot earlier so that there could be a viking invasion. that way the catholic factions would be in as much trouble as the eastern factions.

You can beat either, but I couldn't imagine beating both AND having a chance to win the game. I haven't seen them pile on top of each other, though.

I know as a horde they don't pay too much upkeep until they settle, but they can make good many of their losses and start expanding swiftly after they settle so they have no constraint on their builds... which means having them settle is a nightmare.

No offence to any one, but I'm tired of people complaining about the Mongols and the Timurids. We all want historical accuracy, and are always banging on about how CA doesn't cater to our historical needs, well about the only thing historically accurate in the game is the Mongols and the Timurids and the power they wield.

People complain about how much money they have and why they don't have upkeep. Frstly when the mongols decided to turn westwards first as a scouting mission for Genghis (at which point they turned up near yerevan) they had taken over much of northern China and central asia (which had cities at that time that would make those of europe look like small towns), which meant they had not only gathered a vast amount of wealth through rape and plunder but they also had a monopoly on the silk road and everything that moved from west to east. Furthermore the second time they turned up Hulagu sacked all of the persian kingdoms up to asia minor and the Golden horde held up to the borders of eastern europe. As for being tough, I don't think that's bad yes its annoying but that's the way it was I mean Ogadei had had annexed much much of poland and defeated A vastly superior (in numbers) Hungarian army who was assisted by most of christendomn, the only thing that halted his progress was the death of the Great kahn, which forced him to return for a 'Qurultay' (new kahn election).

As for Timur, he was one of the greatest conqeruer's ever in history. He held all of Central asia when he turned up in the middle east, then he sacked the Mamluk kings cities of Aleppo, Damascus, Antioch and Baghdad (He even eradicated the last of the Knights Templar at symrna) after which he made short work of Bayezid Yildirim (the thunderbolt) the ottoman sultan who had struck fear in the heart of Christendoms kings and princess. Only thing un-historical about Timurs army is that there isn't enough variety (as they troops from Armenia and mesapotamia to siberia and India) and they did have excellent heavy infantry and spearman, but that is another story.
