I'm really excited to see scorpio in the game, but I'm a bit disappointed with its performance.
I know it's not the machine gun in ancient warfare, but currently it's very ineffective on the battlefield.
1.It's too weak:
I think in the description it says scorpio's shot can penetrate several targets, but I have tried it against
those half-naked celts-man (huge unit size) and it takes two shots to kill one man at best. When shooting
well-armored hoplitais it barely kills.
2.It's too slow:
It can shoot three times before enemy infantry reaches them.
3.Its minimum range is too far:
It shoots straight like a crossbow thus I expect it to have a short minimum range, but right now it stops
shooting when enemy enters javelin's range.
4.Its projectile is difficult to see:
The "engineers" hold dart-like projectiles but the actual projectile shot is some kind of short spear, its
dark-brownish color makes it really hard to be found. When viewed from top I cannot tell where
my scorpio is shooting. I think it will be better if the projectile can be made brighter,
if it has to be brown then at least make them as bright as the javelins. Also, some dust effects at where the
projectile landed can be very helpful.
Given the relatively high cost (2000/500) of scorpion and its not-so-great performance there isn't
much point recruiting them (plus it slows down your army) except for role-playing. Oxybeles (and lithobolos) is better than scorpio in
almost every way, very useful in both field battle and siege.
I really like to put some socrpions in my roman army just like in the movie "The Gladiator" (I know it's not very historically accurate),
please make them more powerful.
Thanks, can't wait for the summer release.
