Lord Gwayne exited the keep, a frown aboard his face even as he relinquished the guest right extended him by the castellan, Ser Alastair. He had offered the man good terms - nay, generous terms - but the influence of that cumbersome Maester had swayed the young lad's mind the wrong way and he had held steadfast for the Greens.

It was a state of affairs which, quite simply, could not be allowed to remain.

Bywater was a strategic seat, controlling the roads from King's Landing to the Stormlands, and House Bywater held sway over the greater part of the southern crownlands. Often referred to as High Lords of the Kingswood, they were keepers of the royal hunting grounds and claimed dominion from the borders of the Reach to the salty waters of the Narrow Sea. If Ser Alastair would not bend the knee and willingly return his family to the warm embrace of the Queen's Peace, Gwayne would have to take matters into his own hands and force the matter.

His trebuchets were already present and ready to go, but his men (commanded in his absence by his son Ser Jaime) had already set about erecting Siege Towers. They would be a few weeks in construction, but Gwayne had time to spare. The road back to King's Landing was secure thanks to the Hartes, and food was easily obtainable in the capital. A siege began as soon as the Lord stepped outside, his crossbowmen already positioned to cut down any ravens that dastardly Maester Briar sent out.

Less fortunately for the bloodthirsty amongst his men, Lord Gwayne was a reasonable man, and he would have recourse to diplomacy one last time.

Garrison of Bywater, heed my words! You are surrounded. See my trebuchets! Siege towers are under way. Your castellan is a green boy, bossed about his maester, and if you follow him into error you will all be dead. My name is Lord Gwayne of Heart's Home, kinsman to the Queen, who sits upon the Iron Throne and commands dominion over Andal and First Man alike. She is the true monarch, a kind and merciful Queen, with a mother's heart and a mother's gentle touch. Her brother is dead and his cause lost. In her honour I offer each one of you two golden dragons, a gift for the wise. You have my word no harm shall come to this castle or its inhabitants, Ser Alastair included.

OOC: IIRC Petyr Baelish bought the loyalty of the Gold Cloaks with one gold dragon each, so 2 should be a rich gift for these petty garrison soldiers.

OOC: HB or Poach do battle rolls so one of them will do this. Previous RP can be found here.

OOC: I was rather hoping for a roll to see if the bribery worked, before any battle.

OOC: I would like a roll to see if the bribery works, but if not, the siege towers are ready and the Corbrays shall assault the keep.

Didn't realize you already had a surrender roll done. Looks like you'll have to get the battle rolled, then, by either HB or Poach.

OOC: There was a RP asking the Castellan, Ser Alastair Bywater, to turn sides and become a Black. He refused. Now I'm offering the garrison gold to betray him. Wouldn't that be a different role? Different characters, different terms.

You only get once chance at convincing a castle or garrison to surrender/switch sides etc. You'll have to try to storm the castle. The siege wait out time doesn't apply since you don't have your fleet blockading it.

OOC: That's fine, the Siege Towers are done and ready to go.

You'll need to post orders in one concentrated post before I do any rolls.

Lord Gwayne gives the command and orders his trebuchets to spring into action, hurling large stones at the walls of Bywater.
225 Archers and 1,200 Crossbowmen rain down volley after volley of arrows upon Bywater archers and defenders along the wall, in order to thin them out, distract and weaken them.

The trebuchets then focus on the gates, with the bulk of Corbray's army (cavalry and regrouped crossbowmen) stand marshalled and at the ready beyond the reach of the arrows.
It will look like the army is waiting for the trebuchets to weaken the gates to storm the keep.

In reality, it is a distraction while his foot soldiers move the Siege Towers into position along the damaged and less intensely defended walls, storming the walls and putting the defenders to the sword.
As the infantry and 600 crossbowmen clamber up the siege towers onto the walls, the cavalry and other 600 crossbowmen will assault the gate.

The goal is to take Castellan, maester and womenfolk alive.

    Storming of Bywater Keep:

    Bywater Garrison:

    80 Heavy Infantry (160 points)
    150 Light Infantry (150 points)
    80 Polearm Infantry (120 points)
    120 Archers (120 points)

    Outcome:

Despite the odds put against them, the Bywater garrison manage to initially repel the initial attack by Corbray missile troops killing more of their attackers than the losses that they suffered. However, once the breaches in the walls and gates were made, the garrison were simply overwhelmed and were cut down to the last man.

    Remaining Corbray Men:

    197 Archers
    999 Crossbowmen
    143 Light Cavalry
    47 Heavy Cavalry

    Roll Commentary:

You had really poor rolls on the archery side but near flawless on the assault side so your casualties were kind of lopsided.

OOC: Thank you for rolling. Did all my infantry get killed, or did they incur no losses?

No losses. The cavalry attack was rolled first due to their speed and your high rolls basically beat them before the infantry could even get in.
