    Default Nightsong

    Seat of House Caron
Nightsong is the seat of House Caron. The formidable castle is located in the Dornish Marches in the southwestern stormlands, north of the Prince's Pass and the Red Mountains. The castle is known for its Singing Towers, two half-ruined towers at the outermost wall, remnants of the first castle erected by Carons; wind blows through the stones, whistling a melancholic and beautiful song. Smallfolk claims that these are the voices of a past Lord Caron and his beautiful wife, both death before their time and ever mourning their fate. The castle has a powerful outer compund, coupled with a strong and smaller enclosure, where Caron’s old keep stands, alongside a stony sept, the castle’s kitchens and a small garden.
Caron's subjects are bellicose and battle-ready, hardened by centuries of struggle against Dornishmen. Hard people for a harsh land; always ready to defend their cattle, crops and daughters. Like their Lords they mantain a thousand years old watch over the Red Mountains and the Prince Pass.

    • Dornish Marches: Nightsong is the main settlement in the Dornish Marches, and historically war-torn zone between the Reach, Dorne, and the Stormlands. Nightsong is a strong castle, and has to be to hold this dangerous region. +2 to siege defense rolls.

House Caron of Nightsong is one of the principal noble houses in the stormlands, sworn to Storm's End. They hold the title Lord of the Marches, although they do not hold dominion over other marcher lords in the Dornish Marches. The Carons date back to the Age of Heroes, and they are a family known for creating warriors and singers. They claim their nightingale sigil has been in 1,000 battles. Maesters state that Nightsong has been sworn to Storm's End since time immemorial, but also that the Kingdom of the Reach once included western marches from Horn Hill to Nightsong. The Carons and Swanns both claim to be the oldest of the marcher lords.

    BIOGRAPHY:

Lord Lyonel Caron was born to Lord Borros Caron and Lady Argella Baratheon at the break of a new century, the second century of Targaryen rule over Westeros. Lord Borros had inherited Nightsong after his aunt was dismissed as heir, even if she was chosen as so by Borros' grandfather on his very deathbed. The late Lord Boremund Baratheon had sanctioned such inheritance for love to his eldest daughter, Lady Argella, even if he always supported Princess Rhaenys' rights for the throne, as she and her uncle were always the staunchest of friends. Lyonel was thus born half-stag and into a noble, proud family; one of the oldest and most respected houses on the Stormlands. Lyonel soon proved to be more a Baratheon than a Caron, having inherited the mercurial, arrogant, belligerent and fierce nature of his mother's kin. Lyonel sports a square jawline, a powerful build, blue eyes and dark hair. He inherited Nightsong when his father died at four-and-seventy years after being infirm, gouty and bedridden for a decade.

Still, the young Lord is no fool, he knows his letters, even if he thinks books and lore are for weaklings and maesters. He has an acute ear for music, like a myriad Caron before him since the family was founded millennia ago. Lyonel has a strong liking for bards and musicians and his court is always filled by the music of harps, lutes and flutes. High-ranking, ambitious and splendid, Lyonel is the first and foremost noble in the Stormlands, related both to Baratheon and Velaryon. Extremely jealous of his honor Lyonel is known to have killed several mens who had wronged him. Lord Caron is incredibly honest and loyal; he would rather die than betraying or lying to his liege. He is known to be as fierce in war as in peace.

Lyonel’s first wife was Lady Cassana Selmy, daughter of late Lord Selmy, with whom he had two daughters, Lady Elizabel in 119 AC and Lady Eleanor Caron in 123 AC. A year later, 124 AC, she delivered a son, who had been death inside her for a month, and died in childbirth. Soon afterwards Lyonel asked for Lady Falyse Baratheon’s hand, who was granted to him as his second wife. By year 130 they are still betrothed because the young lady is merely four-and-ten years of age.
