    Default Retreat to Pinkmaiden

Lucian set off from Riverrun with his army at his back. First he would offer battle and if they refused, with supply lines open, begin a siege. His goals were simple, straightforward, and would be easily accomplished if the Westerlanders remained cowardly. It was guaranteed to be successful as long as nothing went wrong. He did not know what awaited him at Nunn's Deep, but he intended to find out.

"Dispatch riders to discover what forces are at Nunn's Deep." he ordered "I don't want to walk into an ambush." His enemies had plenty of time to prepare for their initial advance. It was not something that Lucian took lightly. He hoped the initial parts of this campaign would be relatively painless and fruitful. He needed to keep morale high.

Rolled a 20, your scouts return with absolute confidence that only the garrison of the castle are present to oppose you. I don't know what the garrison size is, but whatever it is that's what you know.

Lucian II summoned his friends or Belmore and Royce to his side in the column. "Scouts report Nunn's Deep is empty, save a shadow garrison. We should capture it, establish it as a safe point of retreat. Hopefully the garrison will not be willing to put up a fight. After all, they must have witnessed the Lannister armies withdrawing from the Riverlands. We can acquire any provisions they have, leave our own garrison, and continue forward."

Robar arrives at the council "Let me approach the garrison. They know they are out numbered and will surely surrender."

Balman nodded. "Ser Robar has the tongue to sway them with words."

"Very well, Ser Royce." Lucian said with a smile. "We shall await your return." Lucian almost hoped the garrison would refuse to surrender so that he could lead the personal storming of the walls. Victory was certain, even if casualties would be high...

"Balman, well done on your scouting mission. You have keen eyes." Lucian said with a wink.

ooc: I was going to order Balman to scout since he had the +1, we might as well assume that is what happened.

ooc Royce has +2 charisma and +2 from perfumes

    Nunn's Deep's Garrison
    60 Heavy Infantry (120 points)
    110 Light Infantry (110 points)
    60 Polearm Infantry (90 points)
    80 Archers (80 points)

    Total: 310 men

Robar rides up to get into shouting distance of the walls. He calls up to the defenders, "You are outnumbered with no help on the way. Fight and you will all die Fight and your corpses will be food for the ravens fight, and you will never see your families again. We have 25,000 men out here and you have no hope of getting help, surrender and no harm will come to you. Fight and you die. You have until midday to make you decision if you lower your banner we will know you have surrendered. If it is still raise by then we attack." With that he turns and returns to the Arryn camp.

    10/20 base roll
    +4 from charisma
+2 from overwhelming troops vs. small garrison and the offer of no harm

    0-16 garrison surrenders
    17-20 garrison refuses

    Roll:

    Spoiler for roll

Robar studies the keep as the sun continues to approach midday. They had a few more minutes yet before the attack would be ordered. Yet yes there it was the banners around the keep were being lowered and the gates were rolling open. The Garrison had surrendered and the keep was theirs.

Robar returns to the command tent, "The keep is ours," he says with a wry smile.

[OOC: I'd like to object to this. There's an army behind Goldentooth, why would Nunn's Deep surrender with potential rescue so close? Surely they'd send ravens?]

OOC: Would you like a re-roll then, Poach? I believe you do make a strong case that warrants a re-roll.

[OOC: Ideally I'd like Nunn's Deep to attempt to communicate with Goldentooth. The garrison knows there's an army there, they're far from in a hopeless position that warrants surrender.]

Ooc based on the time stamps we could have assulted instantly if they said no. So their situation was hopeless.

OOC: Ill let a more senior mod deal sort it out if you want to object Poach, I wasn't are of the Golden Tooth army when I did the roll hence the modifiers so a re-roll may be needed. Although the roll was a three, so unless the modifiers went up to +7 in favour of not surrendering they still would have surrendered... but I guess that only applies if you are objecting to the modifiers of the roll, not the presence of a roll itself.

I'm objecting to the entire roll. There's absolutely no reason for them to consider surrender when their position is so strong.

Got to agree. They saw first hand how massive the Westerlander army is and know relief is days away at worst. In fact if we had been given a chance to react at all we could have easily arrived in time instead of the instant surrender roll.

For that matter I had to wait until the assault phase for the surrender roll for Pinkmaiden.

OOC: I'll let a more senior mod deal with it then.

I would assume a roll would be needed as an NPC is being asked to do something, however that may be disagree, which is fine, I just don't want to go against AI Reactions rule. If it was the modifiers you disagree with I would have just done re-roll, taking into account the presence of the army at Goldentooth (my fault for not being aware of that first time round).
