Honestly, Med2 was the title that destroyed my TW fanboysm. People probably don't remember it but the release was almost as broken as Rome2's (I remember having to wait 6 months and several patches to be able to even play it without game-breaking bugs).

I don't think we need successors. All but the contrary, what we need is for them to ditch the past and rethink everything from the ground up. The core gameplay of TW has become pretty stagnant in the past years.

I remember CA taking 2 weeks to fix the biggest bug i've seen in the TW franchise: Cavalry not charging AT ALL. Anyone who has played med 2 extensively knows full well how overpowered and relevant cavalry charges are in that game, and for the first 2 weeks after release that wasn't a thing.

It was 6 months before I could play a siege. Now that we are talking about "worst bugs", the worst I've seen was also in Medieval 2, the AI would build full stacks with only catapults, when those stacks attacked your cities and the battle started they would just stand idle without firing a shot for the entirety of the battle, and if you rallied your garrison out, they were unable to reach and attack them because the morale penatly of 20 catapults was huge (even when they were not even firing) and they would just turn back and flee before being able to attack them.

Pretty much like with Rome2, I installed it at release (I had preordered it), uninstalled it almost immediatly, waited for the next big patch, re-installed, confirmed that there were still game-breaking bugs, uninstalled, and repeated until the game was in a playable and enjoyable state. If my memory serves me right, that was around 6 months after release, although it could be even more (I think I started playing consistently after 1.2 or 1.3, and that was more than a year after release).

For 'almost' read 'far more' broken. Not the 'Hurr durr the siege AI sucks this games is broken!!!' but actually broken. I could write a 2000 word essay on it and still not do it justice.

Did they include patches in their later releases of the game? Cause I played Medieval II for a looong time with out getting patches ( had to do it by hand back then ), and I never ran into these problems.
Other issues with the AI for sure, but nothing as broken as described here.

Well, when you installed Kingdoms it would automatically update vanilla, I don't know if that was your case.

If not, well, I remember a lot of people complaining in the forums (and Markas up there seems to have had the same experience), so I doubt it was just me.

Yeah, people tend to forget this is the absolutely norm with CA. Considering TW:WH's potential complexity this could be magnitudes words. The thing that really saved Med2 was that even the battle AI and siege AI was highly moddable and it got fixed and was the best AI for many years until Rome 2 matched and surpassed it, a little.

David do you remember the suicide generals in med2? Were they ever fixed?

Sail your ship as part of a fleet. Devs previously worked on: Darthmod, World of Warplanes, World of Tanks, RaceRoom, IL2-Sturmovik, Metro, STALKER and many other great games..

    From bart CA http://forums.totalwar.com/showthrea...ay-quot-mean.?
When we show early game code to journalists, we usually follow up by releasing a video of it. The first of these will be released in two weeks’ time on the 30th of July with the Battle of Black Fire Pass Developer Walkthrough and there will be more to follow.

I hope to see some kind of fully armored 2handed unit covering the face with a knights helmet, perhaps an epic cape on them.

    Like, for the Empire?
Doesn't exist. Empire Greatswords are the closest thing to that.

    ___

Edit: Nevermind. There could be the Reiksguard Foot Knights. But they only exist in the lore, as far as I know, not in the actual TT.

So, they most likely are not gonna be in, but I guess it should be fairly easy to make a mod I guess.

Though known mostly for their expertise in calvary warfare, the Reikguards are normally divided into a mounted arm known as the Reiksguard Knights, or theImperial Cavalry, and an infantry arm, that they called the Imperial Foot. Which form units of elite dismounted knights with swords or halberdiers Although the infantry arm does not have the glamorous image of their cavalry counterparts, they are nonetheless a crack and flexible fighting force. They are based near the Emperor's palace and can be seen parading through the streets, escorting the Emperor on state occasions, and patrolling the city walls when the Emperor is on leave. The Reiksguard foot regiments are normally protected by both shields and heavily-armoured suits of full plate, adorned with a dazziling array of plumes and ribbons and kept polished to a mirror-like finish. They are armed with heavy swords, halberds or great two-handed swords that they fight in conjunction with other Imperial regiments, providing a flexible and battle-hardened support unit that provides exceptional aid in offence and defence.

I'm really interested in seeing how they actually animate all the Elves: High Elf spearmen are apparently so well-coordinated that they weave in and out of each other in combat...

For those who are wondering what the combat animation system will look like, look at 2:24 in the in-engine trailer. To the left, an orc bashes a halberdier with his shield (attack) and the halberdier recoils (reaction). Another halberdier thrusts overhand at the same orc, causing him to recoil backwards. To the right, a greatsword is thrown backwards rather violently by an unknown enemy, probably a troll due to the distance. At 2:34, a halberdier can be seen interrupting an orc's attack animation, meaning initiative/weapon speed may be taken into account. Overall, it feels like a better animated version of Medieval 2's combat, which is certainly encouraging.

Well, I hope no one gets offended, but I really dislike all the conceptual art they've shown to date. It looks so amateur and I don't dig any of the designs I've seen so far.

Initially I thought it might be just that those are just working concepts for the 3d artists to use as visual reference, but given the style of some of some of the (also mediocre) more artistic drawings, it seems that that's not the reason for the poor quality.

I wonder if the lack of decent 2d artwork has something to do with the poor 3d unit designs people are complaining about.
