Default The regrouped forces of the Crownlands and Stormlands

With their defeat at the capital,
Queen Helaena Targaryen followed the men under Lord Michael Baratheon's command on Dreamfyre's back towards the proud fortress of Bronzegate, where the troops will be rearranged.
So far she has recovered from the losses of the previous battle, even though the thought on Aegon's dead body still filled her heart with grief.
Sorrow she landed within the planes, makeing sure that Dreamfyre had enough space to calm the dragon down and to go to a hunt, if it was necessary. She would meet soon along with the remaining commanders in order to check what remained from the forces of her King husband.

After the battle, Little Ed was no longer a child. His eyes glowed with a sinister calm. His heart bumped wanting to burst. He held a sword. For him, it was the size of a broadsward that he held on both hands. Once he found his master, who had mingled in the confusion of the battle, he stayed by his side, would he be victim of another assasination atempt.

A raven arrives carrying a message to Lady Helaena about the death of her youngest son, Maelor, who went to bed last evening and never woke up. His egg was given to Jaehaerys for safeguarding. A cremation ceremony was performed and an Urn forged to hold the ashes of the little prince till King's Landing was recaptured. In addition, the note details a concern for the sword Blackfyre, feeling it is best to have the heirloom transported immediately to Oldtown for safekeeping and to deprive the enemy of such a great prize. The Council of Regents desires that Lady Helaena work with the Stormlander nobles to ensure they keep a strong front till the arrival of reinforcements from the Reach.

With Lord Baratheon wounded and carried away to Storm's End the leading Lord and commander was Lord Baratheon's son-in-law and cousin, Lord Lyonel Caron, Lord of Nightsong and the Marches. More a Baratheon than a Caron Lord Lyonel was a strong and tall man, encassed in a black armor chased with gold, the colors of both his parents hosues. His helmet was antlered and his horse drappings depicted a combination of nithingales and stags. With Lord Michael bedridden, pierced by spear and sword alike, Lord Caron was now in command of the whole Stormlands might, by proximity of blood and rank. He summoned his fellow Stormlanders to the command tent; Lord Swann, Lord Selmy, Lord Penrose, Lord Connington and many others. Some have fallen in battle, a couple captured and one was missing.

    "My Lords"

    They nodded in salute.

"We have been defeated. We must admit it. Our defeat cannot be concealed or excused. The enemy was victorious and now our liege Lord lingers between death and life at the road between Bronzegate and Storm's End"

He looked sorrowful for he, above all, was a loyal vassal.

"Our strenght is not depleted, however. Enough Stormlanders remain on their feet, sword in hand and ready to hammer the enemy back to their lairs!"

    "Aye"

    Said Lord Selmy.

    "Well said boy!"

Said the old Lord Grandison, who was half-sleep or half-dead, depending of the day.

    "Indeed"

Answered the elegant Lord Penrose in his ornate armor. The other Stormlords followed suit.

"We cannot hide from these Valesmen. They could have defeated us once, but we can repay them with their own coin! We must raise again our banners and recover our lost honor. We cannot leave again the field in disarray. If the King is the dead we will then fight for his son, King Jaehaerys II! Long live the King!"

"To the King! Long live the King!"

Said the other Lords in agreement.

"We shall march again to battle, our banners high"

"Shouldn't we take a more cautious way of action?"

Said Lord Lonmouth. Who was famously patient.

"Why should we? If the enemy comes our away we won't avoid battle and their were as mauled as we were, and almost dragonless. Now Arryn's army only has steel to fight our host, and we have a good deal of it too!"

Some laughed, some cheer and some nod in agreement.

"We are Stormlords, not meek and feeble Pentoshi cheese traders. Our trade is iron, black, unforgivable and strong. We shall march and fight again, even if it ends as our last fight it will be remembered in the days to come"

ooc how many of my Long Bowman Polearms, and Light Cav survived

ic Edric sat listening to the womans speech. It did not matter what she said the King was dead and a bloody child was left in his place. Edric had hedged his bets and it seemed he had chosen the losing side, but a Sellsword was only worth as much as his word, but then his word was worth nothing if he was dead.

Before she would depart to Oldtown after haveing heard news of her third-born child haveing deceased, Queen Helaena would request an audience with Lord Caron, wearing black clothes among her armour.
Though grief could be seen within her face, she decided to nontheless show herself to the men, when approaching the tent - after all she was a queen of the folk and saw no reasons to hide her feelings.
The Queen Dowager knew that no matter if the Greens would win this war or not, the outcome would be bitter for her own soul.

Lord Caron sat in a stool, polishing his chesplate. A clerk behind him wrote what his Lord dictates. Caron keeps polishing the chestplate when the Queen enters.

    "My Queen, you honor me"

The armor's surface shines like a mirror. Black as night, with golden filigree. The antlered helmet laid at his feet. Caron stared at her with his blue eyes.

"How may I serve your Grace?"

"I would like to inform you upon my departure to meet with my Prince brother at Oldtown", she replied openly, knowing that the man would want to know her honest, direct answer, "I know, in this grave hour it sounds as if I abbandon the host, but be assured that I won't flee from my responsibilities. Daemon Targaryen has to pay his prize for what he did to my husband - and if it is in my power, I wish to bring him down with Aemond together. The departure of mine has to remain secret for the meantime until I return, though rumors will spread at a certain point."
She made a small pause before continiueing.
"A Reachman army is located near Tumbleton to get rid of the traitor, Footly", she said, "It might be wise to consider mergeing with their forces to compensate our losses from the previous battle. We weakened Rhaenyra's forces a lot at the capital - yet I fear that her supporters from the Riverlands and the North might soon aid to her defense. We might have to combine our hosts to even aid Lord Lannister in his struggle.
Yet those are only proposals, as I am a mere mother, not a powerful lady, who understands anything upon tactics."

Again she had to make a small pause, as a slight tear was visible for the moment on her face.
    Maelor...
"I hope you can reason my decision, mylord", she replied then, "I will persuade Aemond to fly with me towards the northern border. There is still hope to win this war and we have to ensure that the family reunites against the last two dragons of the Blacks."
In hope that they won't tame in time another one at Dragonstone... they might be desperate now to take the risk.

"Do not fear. We don't rely on leathern wings and flame to win our battles. When Arryn charged against us dragons weren't our side. We bled and we'll bleed again for the realm. It was decided on a war council that the Stormlands will march again to the capital and hammer what the Blacks dare to field against us. However, I may simply ignore King's Landing and march directly to the Riverlands"

Caron set aside his chestplate, which a squire carried away.

"Lannister may have our swords in this struggle. But this is not the time or place to discuss such tactics. Good luck in the way to Oldtown. May the Father guide us"

"I pray that your decision is the right one, mylord", she replied relieved, "I will send words to Ser Tyland upon your considered support - if your plan succeeds and the Riverlands are secured, our forces can unite against our main foe easily. This will relief the Westerlanders a lot and give us the chance to secure the Throne of my son and to get finally rid of any threats, existing for my children and family."

    Helaena frowned upon those words.
"They might be our enemies, yes... but it would not do our cause good, if we represent ourselves as cruel as the Blacks", she said in response merely, "As said, it is your buiseness and your men - yet I hope that we can do as less harm as possible. I agree that some men will have to pay the prize for opposing us - yet the smallfolk should not suffer for their liege's actions. It is only an advice - I for myself can never forgive myself for all the Vale and Crownlander men, who died in Dreamfyre's fire or by my actions.
The time after this war will come, where I will put myself on trial."

"This is war, your Grace. Not a game. This is not a tourney were Summer knights play war. This is actually war. Smallfolk dies, died and will die, because they provide lords with supplies, men and income. The war is cruel and it has a prize, your Grace. If you weren't willing to pay such prize or to watch as it's enacted you should hadn't joined this fray and stayed with your children"
First gauntlet polished, he grabs the second.

"That is your first duty as Queen Mother"

Caron's blue gaze is fixed at Helaena. He uses some oil to grease the joints between the fingers' plate. And rubs the metallic surface firmly.

"I know... and yet it is the dragon, who drives me into the war", she sighed in understoodment, "For my son I fight, for my husband, for my daughter... if I would not, they would die. I killed as it was necessary - yet it is a sin, especially under the mark of kinslaying."
The Queen put his hand on Caron's shoulder. She was conflicted with the thought of innocents most likely dying under Caron's order, yet it was unlikely that it could be prevented. Yet it could maybe mean the relief of the Westerlands - and safe more innocent lifes in return. Helaena was not a woman of war, but she knew that it was not in her power to decide who deserved to life and who did not, even though it pained her to accept it in her position.
"It will not be your problem, mylord, as the other Lord Regents will decide upon this, once the war is won", she only replied, knowing that the Stormlander has to do, as he fits right their host has to act, "Do as you have to do. My prayers will accompany you in your mission and it's success."

With those words, she prepared herself to leave.

Caron nods. He hands a squire the stained cloth and walks to the desk. The clerk gave him the most recent bits of information, including the news of Hightower defeat on the Reach. Troubling news. Blacks had the momentum right now. He studied the map of Westeros carefully. He had to hammer the Riverlands and divide the Blacks forces.

A raven arrives from the Regency Council in Oldtown, requesting that scouting be done to determine the strength of the capital. The Lord Regents feel a counteroffensive is close at hand.

A raven arrives from Lord Crakehall, speaking of the capital's apparent undefended status by word of his scouts. His troops are stationed at Stokeworth and will move upon the capital shortly. Damion Crakehall requests reinforcements from the Stormlands if they are needed to besiege or hold the capital in the name of King Jaehaerys II and for the future of victory.
