With the addition of flying and giant units, i've wonder how will sieges will be in TW Warhammer? Any thoughts?
Maybe there will be climbing units a la Shogun 2, such as the Forest Goblin Spiders Riders, that can fall and die
But as we know, a flying unit takes one stack in the 20 stack army, so I doubt they will be anything but a costly support troop, like the wizards
So, like the total war, with 2-3 variations that are welcome
My thoughts are mostly just, "Please don't it up."
"Rajadharma! The Duty of Kings. Know you: Kingship is a Trust. The King is the most exalted and conscientious servant of the people."
Maybe there will be anti-fly cannon

This is a possibility with the super units, but the Vampires in particular of the currently known playable races in particular have access to several flying units; Vargheists (ogre sized insane Vampires infused with the stuff of Chaos mutating them and giving them wings), Fell Bat (horse sized bats), Bat Swarms (normal bats attracted to Vampires as supernatural creatures of the night).
In fact, Vampires might have the easiest way to win in sieges ever; as they (should) be able to raise units inside the walls, they have Ethereal units like Hexwraiths, Wraiths, Banshees, Mortis Engines etc which can pass through walls with ease, and then they have all of their flying units; ranging from their Super units like the Zombie Dragons, Abyssal Terrors, Dread Abyssals, Terrorgheists or Varghulfs, to the aforementioned units. I imagine late game armies won't contain a single "normal" unit and instead focus on the power units before raising more zombies and skeles to hold up enemy units.
Kind of makes up for their lack of artillery and shooting in the rules (as of the 5th edition split up until the End Times lumped them with the Tomb Kings).
I believe towers will target both flying and land units and you can use your archers to knock down flyers. I believe strategy will still be the key to win. I just hope flying units wont be able to capture the town plaza because that could be exploited very easily.

I wonder if the spiders will be able to scale walls? It would be a to animate though.

Orcs basically just set up camp in the other races settlements and stay until they're out of loot. Orcs should have to sally forth.

@Orc fortresses: As said, most times they occupy castles and strongholds they conquered. Sometimes they build their own. Warhammer Online had some good ideas

For tabletop there are rules for sieges, having the "normal" equipment and more strange devices as example

Usually the main army has to destroy a wall or the gate to enter the keep and start smashing. With stonethrowers and battering rams, that is more like Total War players should recognize a siege. However the fantasy units can bring their own style to the table. Giants smashing into the walls, air units flying around and harrassing the troops on the walls, ghosts that go directly through the walls... Air units are not common for most armies. You will probably never have 3-6 Wyvern or Griffons heroes in an army to kill everything form the air. One or two units of Harpies will get the usual casualties from archers and not win the day alone. Even the mighty goblin spiders who can climb the walls will probabaly not ensure instant victory, but give you a nice tactical extra option to distract the defenders.
I am very interested in how CA will make all this work or if they cut sieges from the game to not worry about dragons rampaging on castle towers. In the end, sieges and attacking cities is more for the warhammer lore. On the table the battles are mostly in the open world. Even if GW had some nice dioramas around the years.

<edit>
While thinking about Orc cities and strongholds designs, the whole different architecture came to mind. Every race has their own designs which are nice enough but think about what madness could come to live if we conquer the chaos waste lands (in the second or third expansion). I mean the creative art designers could go nuts while creating landscapes, cities, fortresses...

At this moment, I think it could be more interesting how they will desiging terrain and cities/stronghold then how much justice they do to the armybook units ^^

Really great post Red Dox!

I love those dioramas, especially the fortress of Nurgle. Hopefully we'll see such intricate fortresses, with lots of towers and bridges at varying heights. I'd like to see an improved visibility system in this case, with structures becoming semitransparent and/or shown in section whenever they obscure your view. A great test for such a visibility systems would be one of these:
I'd love to see battles inside Karaks.
That looks extraordinary! If they don't have something like this in the game I consider it a huge wasted opportunity.btw. nice to see: the most insane Arachnarok conversion for the battlefield I had seen so far

Try Vampire Counts castle, hope it will look like this, or close to it.

Initially I thought they'd be cut but it'd be a little late now to announce that... and if they did good god think of the .

Under the patronage of Nihil. So there.
There is a big potential for many unique large cities (on par with cities in Rome 2/Attila such as Rome, Constantinople, Carthage etc) for many of the human factions, specifically the Empire, Bretonnia and Kislev. In addition to largest and most detailed map of the Old World, this site has a large number of maps for many of the major cities in the Old World: http://www.gitzmansgallery.com/warhammer-maps.html
I hope CA will take the time to make the cities unique like have Middenheim on the huge Fauschlag rock with the viaduct, Altdorf with its enormous temple of Sigmar, Talabheim inside the huge crater. The Dwarf Karaks will be the most complicated to make I think but they should be able to do it justice. King Kong did an amazing job for the Dwarf holds in Third Age mod for Medieval 2 TW.

Just think of a siege battle of middenhiem. The city of the white wolf is warhammer's minas tirith
Want my impracticly large Middenheim cannons.
Sieges are a delicate thing as most of you know. I'm gonna keep very low expectations just in case. I'd really like to know how many unique settlements each race is going to get, though. Underground sieges should be interesting too, there was an underground castle in Warhammer Online and it felt quite unique.
