My boy, if only you had been there! The colours: Green of the freshest sea of grass, of the summer leaves on a thousand ancient oak; gold, a hundred glittering coins, the product of the deepest mines; purples, deep and rich of the cloth of kings, pale as flesh; blue that matched the sky and blue that was the darkness abyss; red of blood and red of lust; orange of sand, of the sun and of fruit. The knights were majestic, their armour glowing golden. On horses as colourful and noble-bearing as their riders, the knights and men-at-arms rode to the rhythm of a hundred flutes and violins, a moving symphony of old songs of heroism and chivalry. At their back came a rumbling thunder, a wine stain that spread out in all directions. A forest of pikes wavering in the air as the steady beat of drums sounded at the same time as the footfall of fifteen thousand men. Had I been unable to see then I would have been led in to believing that the giants had returned to claim their ancient lands. Never will I forget that sight boy. When I close my eyes I can still see it all. I see the army that was glory incarnate, that was a force of nature. I can hear the drums, the flutes, the footfalls, the snort of a thousand horses. Above it all, an aura radiating from behind it, I see the Rose.

Leo Tyrell dispatched a small party under the rainbow banner of peace. Even as the riders made their way towards the Footly host, the Master of Horse and his nephew, Warden of the Torrentine, oversaw the deployment of the army. They had come for a battle, as their Lady Liege had instructed. Even if they had wanted peace the decision had already been made for them: battle.

A great honour has been bestowed on you, Lord Fossoway. I intend to have a great many drinks with you after this business is dealt with.

Remember that we are fighting for House Tyrell, for Highgarden, for the Reach. This is not about dragons or Targaryens or crowns. Footly is a traitor and his men have allowed themselves to be taken in by his corruption. Lord Lyonel demands a victory. He demands the traitor's head.

The envoy offer steep demands: Lord Footly and his eldest son offer themselves as hostages to Highgarden; the army immediately disarm, swearing an oath never to pick up a sword again and everyone being offered a chance to take the black; House Footly would pay fifty-thousand gold dragons a year for a decade to House Tyrell of Highgarden; a solemn oath from the remaining family members would be taken that they renounce Queen Rhaenyra's claim on the Iron Throne; a castellan would be placed in Tumbleton to oversee the running of the Household until the loyalty of the house was once more in line with the rest of the Reach.

They are not terms which Lord Footly would agree to.

    Orders

OOC: I have not done this in a while

    - The archers will begin the battle as usual, focusing their attention on the enemy light infantry.
    - Common to all flanks: heavy infantry take the centre, the light infantry on their flanks and the pikemen anchoring both lines.
    - The left flank will initiate the actual battle, Ser Leo personally leading the cavalry charge on the far left of the line in an attempt to turn the flank; the infantry will be close on their heels in order to fix the enemy line in place for Leo and the cavalry to hit them in the rear. The Elite infantry will be the anchor between cavalry and infantry.
    - The center will hit next, the infantry this time leading the initial charge. The cavalry, will attempt to exploit any opening and create a breakthrough for the infantry to break up the enemy lines.
    - The right flank is the same as the left, Ser Harlen personally leading his cavalry on the far right of the line in order to force the flank to cave in.
    - There is no reserve, given that the Footly host is only half the size of Highgarden's.

    Battle of the Roseroad:

The Tyrell Army easily won all three flanks of the battle due to their overwhelming numbers. The Footly host was annihilated in the battle with it's remnants retreating back to Tumbleton. Tyrell losses were around 15% while Footly suffered around 80% losses with most of it coming from the ensuing rout after all three flanks were overwhelmed with no available reserve.

    Remaining Men:

    Tyrell:

    413 Elite Inf
    2326 Heavy Inf
    5740 Light Inf
    2557 Polearms
    3795 Archers
    500 Elite Cavalry
    772 Heavy Cavalry
    2555 Light Cavalry

    Footly:

    334 Heavy Infantry
    853 Light Infantry
    230 Polearms
    956 Archers
    42 Heavy Cavalry
    99 Light Cavalry

Harlen led the pursuit of the fleeing traitors. In the face of an army twice their size, the Footly host had crumbled. A good fight, he had admitted at the beginning, the arrow storm and initial clash as fierce as any battle. However, the advantage of the Tyrells was soon apparent, driving the enemy back all along the front. Harlen himself, during a brief moment of tranquility in the middle of the melee, watched as the relentless green sea drove over the black.

A good example for the rest of them
, he whispered to himself, lowering a lance for another run.

    -----

Ser Leo Tyrell made his way towards Tumbleton at the head of a column of brightly-coloured knights. Stopping just out of arrow range, the Master of Horse delivers his demands.

Tumbleton will surrender itself, turning over Lord Footly and his sons to live out the rest of their natural lives as guests at Highgarden. The remaining levies will be immediately disbanded, their weapons seized and oaths taken that never again will they dare face House Tyrell again in battle. Furthermore, House Footly will offer up twenty thousand dragons as compensation for their plot to usurp the Lordship of Highgarden from House Tyrell. After that, this sorry affair can be forgotten. There has been enough Reachmen blood spilled, and Lady Alla wishes for House Footly and all those sworn to them to return to her good graces.

Remember this before you decide: no help is coming. Even Queen Rhaenyra has deserted you, her loyal supporters, in order to claim her throne. The rest of the Reach stand aside to allow this punishment of House Footly. And if you do chose to die in defiance know this: there will be no assault. You will not end your lives by the hand of a knight in the glorious crucible of battle. No, you will die of hunger, feasting on the corpses of your fellows until the warmth of life leaves you. Do not waste your lives for a fallen cause.

OOC: Tyrell outnumbers the defenders by over 5:1; no chance of a relief force; charisma +1; just over half-way through their supplies.

    Surrender Roll:

    Base Roll: 5/20
Modifiers: +5 (heavily outnumbered), +3 (no relief force), +1 (attackers charisma) +1 (heavy defeat in the field) -1 (still stocked on supplies) -1 (Tyrell demands)
    Total Chance: 14/20

    Final Roll: 2/20, garrison surrenders.

After a sixth month long siege, the once defiant defenders of Tumbleton now knew that they faced an imminent defeat, and the only thing that mattered was how many of their own would starve before the gates opened. There was to be no relief force, no way out. And so, after what seemed an eternity, the great gates of Tumbleton slowly creaked open. The weary garrison filed out of the fortress, slowly but surely, piling their weapons in front of the Tyrell host. Lord Footly and his family are frog marched out at spear point, and presented to Ser Leo by a small group of disgruntled soliders.

It was Ser Harlen who greeted Lord Footly and his family, looking down on the once proud noblemen as only a victor could.

It has been a long time coming, hasn't it? Come, let us get you to your new home as soon as possible. There is no point in standing on ceremony, is there?

Waiting only long enough for the gold to be collected, Ser Harlen took fifty men as escort of the caravan back to Highgarden, while Ser Leo began the process of readying the army to march. A letter had come from his daughter. A letter they had been expecting for a long time.

    Rolls:

Horn Hill: 12 - Scouts report from numbers ranging from around 1000 to 6000 men garrisoning the castle.
Durwell: 17 - The scouts are confident that only a small garrison is present, between 300 to 500 men.
Honeyholt: 12 - The scouts come back with conflicting reports, with anywhere between 100 to 2000 men present. Most likely they visited the local tavern instead of bothering to check the castle garrison.
Uplands: 16 - Scouts report that a small garrison is present, between 300 to 800 soldiers guarding the castle.

Leo looked left and right at the army as it filed in to formation. These men had stood with him at Tumbleton, crushing the traitor host of Footly. They were now turning their hungry eyes on the traitors of Tarly.

This is not exactly a time for rejoicing
, the older man muttered as he saw a group of squires passing a wineskin between them.

We are going to battle, when else should a man rejoice?

Harlen was one of those men who saw war as the embodiment of everything a noble stood for. What were the Andal invaders if not warriors? It was in their blood, it was them, more than a sigil or name. Normally, Leo would have looked down on anyone who had such a view on the world, but come the battle, Harlen was as dependable as a rock.

    Same terms as last time?

Or no terms at all. The Tarlys knew that the Tyrells would not allow any Blacks to remain a threat, and the Tyrells knew that the Tarlys would not submit.

    Same terms as last time.

The Umber force incurred a loss of 3% storming The Ring, I don't have the time to calculate it.

    Spoiler for Orders
Left Flank: Aregelle Umber (No Traits)
    Central Flank: Darla Umber
    Right Flank: Mors Maidenbane
    Reserve: Rickon Skullcracker

The Central Flank: The 1,200 Mercenary Crossbowmen rain down arrows on the initial charges of the enemy, assisted by the Catapult whose projectiles are intended to thin out the enemy ranks. 400 Polearm Infantry take position to crack down on the enemy cavalry, before the infantry can move forward and clash steel with the enemy ranks. 2,000 Light Infantry, 350 Heavy Infantry and 300 Light Cavalry form the core of this force.

    The Left and Right Flanks:
    232 Polearm Infantry each
    1,000 Light Infantry each
    150 Heavy Infantry each
    500 Archers each
    109 Heavy Cavalry each

The Flanks are positioned to "hold down the fort", as it were, so the central flank can thin down and push back against the enemy assault. The Archers are to adopt the same tactic as the Crossbowmen in the center, raining down volleys of arrow to thin down the initial charges before the infantry can hanker down and push back against the onslaught. The heavy cavalry are to move last of all, moving in to support the infantry by stopping the enemy cavalry from pushing far down the ranks, attacking from the back, disorganizing/disarraying/disorientating the men, and so on.

    Reserve:

390 Light Cavalry stand at the ready to strengthen any weakening flank, or else to assist the survivors to flee back towards Harpshire.

    Results: Unsurprising Green victory

Left: Greens win, Green cavalry won the day

Right: Greens win, Hardly even a battle, Black forces seemed to rout almost immediately

Center: Greens win, the center put up a valiant fight but they were overwhelmed by numbers

Alright, I ing hate battle calculators. I know the % killed on each flank but can't interpret at all how to calculate actual numbers left over. So if it even matters, some simple math can be done to figure them out.

Blacks lost the max 25% on all flanks, so deduct 25% from the raw total number for each class you went into.

Greens lost 25% in the center (amazing rolls for Blacks here compared to awful rolls for Greens)
Greens lost 1.5% on the right
Greens lost 1% on the left

    Chraacter rolls:

    Blacks
    Rickon Skullcracker - head wound
    Mors Maidenbane - captures
    Darla Umber - free
    Aregelle Umber - free

    Greens
    Jon Roxton - free
    Leo Tyrell - free
    Harlen Tyrell - torso wound

Leo swung high, blade carving through the forearm of some fur-wrapped Northman. Turning with his sword, the nobleman followed up with a low slash across the back of the knee, tearing through bone and sinew. Bringing his shield to bear, Leo slammed it in to the foe's side, driving him to the ground. Without pausing to deliver the final blow, the Master of Horse turned to face his next foe. All around him the Northmen were driving home hard, cutting down his Reachmen in their desire to seek a glorious death.

    For Highgarden!

The cry brought the attention of a half-dozen Umbers, their greatswords and spears hovering as the little minds of the soldiers processed the challenge. Not one of the Reachmen had mentioned Aegon or Jaehaerys, instead calling out their liege lord's keeps or the Reach itself. To the loyalists of Tyrell, this was a battle against an invader, nothing more.

Harlen called out wildly as he drove the enemy back. There was little resistance from the foe, their shieldwall crumbling beneath the might of the Tyrell knights. Strike them down! he bellowed as Forlorn took him in to another knot of the enemy. Drive them home! He laughed bitterly as his mace took the face of one nobleman, his steel unable to match the ferocity of a spiked ball. The speartip found his side in a moment of hesitation.

    ------

The rider is informed that Mors will be exchanged at a later date and informs the messenger that he needs to convince the Northmen to leave the Reach forthwith.
