I have followed the thread about secdrv.sys you posted. Some people report that it is not anymore fixable means secdrv.sys will be unsigned after a restart and things like Windows 8.1 is also affected now. I haven't verified this and at present don't have the time to dig into this either.

I guess the best option is then to acquire the game over Steam for users of win10.

I have neither win8 or win10 nor a problem with this at the moment and thus haven't been able to verify the issue. I do have the disk version of R1 and eventually will get my win10 upgrade, then let's see if I can be of more productive assistance.

    Hi,

I just want to add to this discussion the fact I received an update on Windows 7 last week and since that moment also get the "Access Denied. Please login with administrator privileges." problem. I was not able to get rid of the update.... I think Microsoft is addressing the issue by making it impossible to use older progs in Windows 7 and 8 so nothing is keeping you from switching to Windows 10.... I feel a bit dissapointed, and for now removed all games from my PC since I really don't like the 'Big Brother' Steam. Would like to be informed if another work around comes available. Strange though that people who pay for software always seem to draw the shortest straw...

That would be really nice! if you need an Acronis license or anything (safer roll back), I have some free to grant you.

This won't work either. If you don't have Rome 1 installed it has issues to create needed files, that is why there is no unique workaround.
At the moment there seems to be no clear solve for the secdrv.sys (regarding DVD / CD TW games and other) and then we have a permission issue with some Rome 1 (and addons) using Steam and Windows 10.

I had 0 problems installing RTW:Gold over Steam on win10, other than some simple fixes to make it work on win10 as described here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...-windows10-FIX

So does the non-steam version of RTW still not work on windows 10? I play MP on gameranger and everyone uses the 1.5 version, so 1.51 is not much use to me as it would be incompatible with other players. Need to get a new laptop and would prefer it to be able to run RTW.

Sorry if this is already answered in here; haven't read through the whole thread.

Currently I think the only people having trouble with RTW:Gold are the disc-version/non-steam players of the game; who decided to upgrade to win10.

This is not true. As I stated before. Microsoft has issued some security issues that make it impossible to play the disc version on Windows 7 (maybe also Windows 8?). I figured out that deleting Security Update KB3086255 only will restore playability.

Ok we'll do what you're saying then: In that case ALL disc/non-steam players are boned. Regardless of the windows version they use.
Except those who got it to work ofc.....

That's a negative. I bought a Windows 10 computer and none of the games I have tried worked. They installed just fine, though, but they don't play. I have tried running as administrator and using the compatibility version. Nothing. I will have to try a game that does not need a CD, though I have very few of those games. REALLY ANNOYING, One more reason for me to dislike Microsoft computers, on top of all their stupid updates, that they can install with my laptop closed. My Mac version of the game, the disk is too scratched up to install it. I deleted it after a botched attempt to mod to EB. I can't justify buying the game again, I have more important expenses. Feral Interactive did say they would send me a download link if I could provide proof of purchase, but that was two years or more after buying the game, so of course I did not have my receipt or anything else I think I could use.

I have no CD/DVD-drive in the computer I built and I have a similar problem when I want to play my older games.
For example I wanted to play Warcraft3+TFT again.
All I had to do was insert my CD-Keys on the Blizzard website and I got 2 installers for the games.
Doesn't RTW have a CD-Key you can give to Feral Interactive to prove you own the game?

I installed the game from the disc. I tried all solutions I found (change AA in preferences or change destination in shortcut) but to no avail.
M2TW works without a problem. I have the gold edition from that game on disc.

Some more info (I don't seem to have the rights to edit my own post??): I was talking about a clean install in my previous post. The problem is that nothing happens when I want to launch the game.
I actually have a second installment of the game on another external hard drive. This one has been installed a few years ago on another computer with windows 7 and it is heavily modded. It launches but the screen just start flickering for a minute or so and then it says that it can't find directx 9 on my computer.

    Heya KingofPruissen;
    - The flickering can be caused by win10 when you did not edit your Preferences.txt files... Possible solution: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...-windows10-FIX Step 1 & 2 only.
    - For running directx9 on newer versions of Windows, download the file "d3d9.dll". I am not sure this works with RTW at all, but it helped me a lot when I was trying to get Fallout3+Fallout:NV to work on my win7ult computer (which is now a win10pro computer), which also needed DirectX9...

please download and install dxwebsetup.exe from Microsoft and let us all know if this solved your problem (instead just downloading the aforementioned dll).

Well there you go. I had not yet tried to preferences.txt with my old installment. It works fine now which means that I can enjoy a version of Rome Total Realism that I installed on an external disk via another pc.
Strange that my fresh install on windows 10 doesn't work though. I never had the flickering screen with that version. It just asks to give administrator rights and when you do that it fails to launch entirely. Shame since I would like to try some other mods as well.

^^ Don't worry, I'm not going to try the dll. There's nothing wrong with my directx either. I suppose there must be a problem with copy protection or something when you install it on windows 10.

Is there any good solution now?
Setting the AA_OFF got me the game running, but it seems to struggle. I'm having mouse cursor lags sometimes, but that clearly can't be my engines fault lol (i7, 16gb ram, gtx 970)

Btw, I'm neither playing on steam really, I'm using the cd version to play on Gameranger, where the Clancommunity almost exclusively plays at. So in case of help please don't just explain the "steam-way" to fix it.

Another problem is that it only opens the game in 4:3, it won't stretch it to fullscreen whatever I do.

On my win7 in those cases I just went in the graphics control center and set strech, but this seems to be not possible atm on win10. Any ideas?
