House Mooton
"Wisdom and Strength"

House Mooton is an ancient house within the Riverlands. They ruled as kings in the days of the First Men. They are a rich, powerful and influential house in Westeros. Serving their kings loyally and usually remain very close to them. Unique within the Riverlands, and perhaps in the rest of Westeros too, despite being minor lords, they can field as many soldiers as most high lords and certainly are richer then most of them. These facts makes them unwilling and uneasy vassals to their liege lords of Darry. The Mootons believe that not the Darry's but the Mootons have the oldest rights on the Bay of Crabs.
The Mootons were petty kings in the days of the First Men. Maidenpool historically failed to conquer Crackclaw Point. The Storm King Monfryd the Mighty defeated a Mooton king and conquered Maidenpool prior to the Andal invasion. King Florian the Brave was killed by Andals in the Fall of Maidenpool. The Mootons of Maidenpool were within the domains of Kings Benedict I Justman and King Torrence Teague, although the riverlands eventually passed first to the Storm Kings under King Arlan III Durrandon and then to House Hoare under King Harwyn Hardhand.
During the War of Conquest Lord Mooton joined Lord Darklyn in opposing Aegon the Conqueror, but both were slain fighting against Aegon's dragons and Orys Baratheon. Lord Mooton's brother, Jon Mooton, then yielded to Aegon. Jon supported the Targaryens in the Field of Fire, slaying men who tried to escape the dragons.

Maidenpool is a town in the riverlands situated along the southern shore of the Bay of Crabs. It is the seat of House Mooton. The castle at Maidenpool sits on a hill, and the town is walled. East of Maidenpool are hills. There are two roads leading to King's Landing from Maidenpool, one a faster road which goes through Duskendale and the other which travels along the coast. Maidenpool has a busy harbor and pink stone walls. Fisherfolk northwest of Maidenpool fish the waters in leather coracles, while others collect clams. The town has a tavern called the Stinking Goose and numerous inns, including one near the Fool's Gate. It also has a tower called Jonquil's Tower.
