Game of Thrones Full Conversion mod (Ideas to different mod aspects)
A Game of Thrones strategy game is something I've always wanted. Since none of the current GoT games have been very successful, I was thinking about a mod for total war, and I can't think of a better game for a GoT full conversion mod than Attila. Let me tell you why...
Here is a list of aspects from Attila that would fit perfectly into the world of GoT:
- FAMILY TREE - Families play a huge role in GoT. With Attila's family tree this can easily be represented, and key characters can actually play a role in the game, with traits fitting their personality etc. The "other nobles" section of the family tree would then consist of houses loyal to your family. For example, if you play as Starks, you would see Eddard as deceased, Robb as king and all the other Starks would be there as well. The "other nobles" section would consist of bannermen such as the Karstarks and the Boltons. The Family Tree also shows bastards and adotions, which can be used to show for example Jon Snow and Ramsay.
- HORDES - The new horde mechanic can bring life to the Dothraki hordes. The player can start the game with Khal Drogo as Khal of a Dothraki horde, married to Danaerys. She will then give birth to Rhaego, the stallion that mounts the world, and the player can change history and raze the seven kingdoms.
- WINTER IS COMING - As you may have noticed, Attila features a climate change mechanic. As the game progresses, the climate gets colder and colder. This is a perfect way to implement the fact that winter is coming to Westeros, and the player will have to deal with this problem sooner or later, as the snow belt grows further and further south.
- THE ZONE OF CONTROL - The red circle around armies and settlements is called the Zone of Control. This feature adds a new strategic depth to the campaign map, as key choke points can be rienforced to defend your lands. This way strategic positions such as The Bloody Gate and Moat Cailin can actually play a huge roll on the campaign map. For example, the player could place an army in The Bloody Gate to the Vale, and essentially the whole Vale of Arryn would be defended.
- RESOURCES - As we all know, Lannisters have an abundance of gold. How come? Well, that's because they have a lot of gold mines in the Westerlands. This can actually be shown on the campaign map with resources. For example. Lannister lands would have a lot of Gold resources, the Arbor would have Wine, some of the free cities might have spices... You get the deal.
- RELIGIONS - Religions also play a roll in GoT, and there are several different religions. The North would have The Old Gods as their religion, the Greyjoys would have the Drowned God, the Lannisters worship the Seven, and so forth. An interesting aspect is also the ability to change religion. For example, the player could experience how Westeros is slowly converted to the service of the Lord of Light.
- WILDLINGS AND WIGHTS - The Nights Watch would protect the wall against everything beyond it. They would be an unplayable faction that cannot engage in politics, and their only purpose would be to hold Castle Black and the two other castles against wildlings and what else. Wildlings however, could be a Horde faction that starts with a huge army (Mance Ryders army) and that is playable. They must get to the other side of the wall before the White Walkers get them. The White Walkers would be an overpowered Horde faction (non-playable) that is constantly at war with every other faction, and they would only be able to move where there is snow. As the winter grows closer, they will be able to move further south until they reach the seven kingdoms and bring death and destruction to every faction. That would put some pressure on the player, forcing him/her to unite or conquer the kingdoms in order to stop the coming of the walkers.
- MERCENARY COMPANIES - Westeros and especially Essos is crowded with mercenary companies such as the Second Sons and the Golden Company. These companies could play as independent horde factions that could be hired by the player through the politics panel (needs some scripting). Once they have a contract, you can point them in the right direction with the war co-ordination feature, and they will fight until the contract expires.
That is everything I have come up with so far. If there are any skilled modders out there who share my dream of this mod, then I would be happy to set up a team and provide ideas and new elements to implement into the mod. Send me a message if you're interested. Cheers! /g_delux

You make some good points, I would like to see this happen. I thought of one thing that might be good for say hiring the Mercenary companies. Maybe there would be some way to hire/adopt a General to join your tree? Also this would be cool if you could also use a feature like this to have an General from a different faction to switch to your side or maybe if you defeat a General in battle a capture him. Give them a choice to join or die, hold them for ransom?? If you ever played Mount & Blade, there is a very good mod for Game of Thrones.

Yes, that would be a cool feature, could be possible with a good scripter. Also for the Mount & Blade thing, I have 1700h on that game, so yeah I have played that mod
Too bad the guy making the mod is a complete douchebag though (at least from what I've heard) :/

Lol, he seems to have that reputation. I wish I knew how to mod the game, I would help you with this project. A Mod for Warhammer might be better for this type of setting, with dragons and such. All I have to give at the moment is ideas.

Nah, I think Attila is a better setting, mainly because of the family tree and the other reasons I stated above. Warhammer is a bit too hardcore fantasy, while GoT does in fact not feature that much heavy duty magic and monsters (except for dragons, as you mentioned). But yeah, dragons would be hard to implement if it was an Attila mod, but all in all I think Attila would be the better choice. Now if this mod is ever going to be made, the development would have to start soon, otherwise Attila will be outdated by the time it's finished :/
