Default Pre-Rp Event: The 52nd Namesake Day of Viserys Targaryen, the First of His Name

In the 129th year since the landing of Aegon the Conqueror upon the hills that wound become King's Landing, a great festival would occur in the capital. For upon this year, on this specific day and month, the birth of Viserys Targaryen by the Baelon the Brave, son of the Old King, Jaehaerys I, was upon the Seven Kingdoms. Viserys, having grown to the age of fifty-two years, was still respected and loved. He had been a wise and just king, who continued the good works of his grandfather and ensured peace for all of Westeros. Yet one thing he could not keep at peace was his household. The rivalries between his current Queen, Alicent Hightower, and his appointed heir, Rhaenyra Targaryen, had caused great stress and hardship for the aged King. Yet today, Viserys hoped that rivalries would be set aside, and perhaps even forgotten, for the sake of his birthday.

Despite the advice of his councilors, his Queen and the children by Alicent; Aegon, Aemond and Daeron, an invitation was extended to Rhaenyra who lived currently at Dragonstone. She would come, Viserys knew, even if she was close to giving birth to her third child by her uncle and the king's rogue-ish brother, Daemon. Viserys hoped that all would be set aside and only cheery moods would be about the Red Keep. Yet even as the feast was prepared, tensions rose. The Queen insisted upon having Rhaenyra be placed at another table, yet Viserys would hear nothing of it. A seat would be left open for his eldest child and heir upon his left, which offended Aegon and his mother deeply for even having to share a table with the woman. His mother, the Queen, was to be seated on the right of the King, with Aegon next to her, followed by Helaena, then Aemond and finally Daeron. With the immediate family was also Aegon and Helaena's children, Jaehaerys, Jaehaera and Maelor. The security of the event was handled by the Goldcloaks and more importantly the Kingsguard, led by Ser Criston Cole, who stood close to the King and Queen as well as Prince Aegon's offspring. Viserys wanted his whole family with him today and the King would get what the King wanted.

As Lords and Ladies arrived at the feast, blaring trumpets and the throaty roars of dragons would welcome them to King's Landing and the Red Keep. The finest dragons were seen by the common folk and the nobility with Vhagar standing the proudest, with Sunfyre the Golden being praised the most magnificent. Daeron's mount Tessarion and Helaena's mount Dreamfyre, both she-dragons, were a beauties to behold, even as dragons. The only dragons to come would be Rhaenyra's mount and those belonging to her children and husband.

(Have fun everyone! Know that I will be rping as Viserys I, unless another mod wishes to take over. Mods, please open this thread in the morning.)

The great laugh of Viserys Targaryen could warm anyone's heart. He had always been known to be a merry person, growing up and even into his adult years. The burdens of Kingship and being a father did not change his laughter and joyful attitude in the slightest. The aged King, with a great mess of white hair upon his head and brilliant Valyrian purple eyes, would greet every guest who approached his table and chair with a smile, a handshake, a warm greeting and a hearty laugh. Its hard to imagine that such a cheery King fathered such sullen and brooding sons. Compared to Rhaenyra, the Realm's Delight, the sullen look of Aegon, the scarred appearance of Aemond and the handsome figure of young Daeron seemed like quite the variety.

The eldest of the four children, whose mother was Alicent Hightower, Aegon was a sullen-looking person, known for his brooding and deep hatred towards Rhaenyra and his children, most importantly Jacaerys Velaryon who once asked to dance with his bride. Aegon looked much like his father, but had nothing of his personality. He had a wispy mustache and was known to be quite the womanizer. Rumors abound that the Prince had already fathered a few bastards. His wife was the opposite; Helaena was a plump woman, yet known to be well-loved by the smallfolk, as well as a pleasant and happy woman, like her father. Its hard to believe that such a pair married and had three children together, but it was according to the incestuous customs of Valyrians.

As Viserys welcomed many and greeted them warmly, Aegon sat between his wife and mother. His eyes scanning the crowd. Aemond and Daeron knew why their older brother's eyes were looking around. For they took held a deep-seeded hatred for Rhaenyra just like their brother did. Aegon's younger brother, Aemond, lost an eye because of a fight with Joffrey Velaryon when the two wanted to see who would become Vhagar's rider. Despite losing his eye, Aemond still gained a powerful mount. Aegon grabs his cup of wine sharply and drinks it deeply before slamming it on the table. Helaena noticed the grip of her brother-husbands hand upon the goblet, but remained quiet. Aegon was a ticking time bomb when it came to Rhaenyra and it was surely ticking down to the arrival of his half-sister.

For the maintime of the feast, the quite unimpressive Targaryen sister, haveing dressed herself in a simple red gown with few black fire ornaments embrodded, decided to remain quiet, as she talked most of the time only for her children.
In some way, she did not really care for the politics behind the feast, as her interests remained rather in those, to whom she had given birth. Still it seemed for her like a miracle that Jaeherys and his twin sister had grown so rapidly within all this time, while it felt as if she had given birth to them just days before. Watching them was always joyful for her, as the two made the dull atmosphere within her atmosphere worth to endure for the time of the feast.
And of course, Maelor was not forgotten, being held in her hands, as he had been born two years ago.

From time to time, the young mother only left to the terrace, when she had to comfort the boy, adressing always one of five knights of the Kingsguard to guard her.
And so it was this time the case as well, as she approached Ser Criston Cole, excuseing herself to her husband to leave his company for the moment, as the young boy was crying uncomfortable upon the noise of the feast.
"My good Lord Commander", she adressed him polite, maybe a little bit shy and flattered, as most of the day she rather was used to talk mainly to Aegon, Viserys and the rest of her family, "My son might need a few calm moments - can I ask one of your men to attend for his protection, while we go over to the balcony over there?"

She looked nervous over to Aegon, being involved into important discussions again, unsure if he would like her to leave as Helaena always felt guilty during those moments. She remembered how Jaecerys Velaryon has once asked her for a dance and the displeasure from his side upon this act - sometimes her brother and husband was unpredictable, when it came to those matters.

"My lady, we can't stay and observe the dragons the entire time.." Aelinor pleads for the fourth time as Rhaena lazily twirls a ringlet of her hair, watching the dragons, primarily Caraxes and Vhagar from a side hallway. Around her are her few handmaidens and retinue, mostly made up of men who fought alongside her father when he was King of the Stepstones, a former Goldcloak or two, and several young knights from the Crownlands. After another protest from Aelinor, Rhaena sighs and removes the ornate pipe with a dragon's head at the top she had received for a nameday gift earlier this year from her mouth, exhaling a small puff of smoke as she does. "Very well, let us make our way to the feast...before someone comes looking for me." "Knowing my luck it would be one of my cousins..." she thinks to herself, followed by muttering several curses in bastard valyrian that she picked up from one of her retainers one day as the small retinue begins to make it's way towards the great hall.

Walking past the dragons, Rhaena and her small retinue enter the Great Hall, with Rhaena wearing a silver and red dress of Myrish lace, a golden pattern of dragons running up and down the sides of the dress, while pearls, sapphires, amethysts, and several rubies are inlaid into the dress in their own patterns. Asking a servant to bring her a glass of Tyroshi pear brandy, Rhaena looks around after taking a sip of her wine to try and find her sister, followed by her handmaidens and several of her guards, including her massive hound.

She smiled and wave her other granddaughter over, "My Rhaena, you look dazzling, remember that you get your beauty from your grandmother. And you Baela," she said with a chuckle. "How do you both keep here in King's Landing? Come, I want to hear all about." She paused and looked up, "Lady Helicent, would you excuse me if I stole my granddaughters away for a moment?"

Rhaena smiles mischievously at her sister, then politely bows to her grandmother. "Thank you, grandmother...King's Landing has been quite interesting..it's so different from Dragonstone.." Rhaena pauses to take a sip of her wine, then nods to the lady her grandmother was talking to before following Rhaenys off to the side.

Of course, I will accompany you myself.

There was a true Queen-to-be. Attractive, regal, dutiful. She did not play the hearts of men like an instrument. No, she understood what it took to be a royal.

"Ah Ser Criston, do take good care of my dear cousin today, I will be watching closely to see if you live up to your reputation, it will be good to know Rhaenyra has such a capable commander when she becomes Queen." She had to chuckle inwardly at the response such a comment would get in earshot of Lady Alicent and her sons
I serve the crown, came the reply. However Cole would ensure that the crown was placed on a male head.

The woman nodded polite, as it was indeed a surprising honor.
"It is gallant to do this for me, Ser Cole, though I hope to not waste your time", she replied polite, as she went slowly over with him to the terrace, fondleing the young Targaryen, "But truth to be told, I always feel safe, when a loyal knight, whose face I know, accompanies me and my children. I'm surely not distrustful, but well, these days nobody can really know how they feel about our family."
Her look went worried over the crowd of lords and other nobles, along with the Goldcloaks, while sighing.
"I wish I could swear upon the good intentions of all gathered nobility here", she said, "The world would be a better place for my children then. Then they would not need a bodyguard."

Ser Steffon Darklyn stood behind his grace's table, as a member of the kingsguard. His white armor was shining brightly in the sun and his white cloak was clean as ever. Steffon's right hand was always on his sword's grip, ready to strike at anyone who might even think of dangering the king. Steffon was a man of his word and had swore an oath to Rhaenyra as the heir of King Viserys, opposing anyone who suggested that Aegon should be the heir.

Prince Joffrey stood on the thick bowsprit of his mother's ship, careful not to fall off. His brown hair flaunted in the wind, a reason many called him a 'Strong', but Joffrey would not take any insults, threating to feed anyone to Tyraxes in three pieces. His palm rested on the pommel of his sword, an expensive one, with a black grip and sapphires on the guard, it was a hand-and-a-half sword. He was wearing a rich outfit, mostly black with aquamarine blue decorations. His coat was black with a blue three-headed dragon on it, his own sigil.

Joffrey's mount, Tyraxes was resting on the deck of the ship, catching tan and enjoying the fresh air. He was a small dragon, not yet ready to fly long distances with a rider but Joffrey wanted to bring him nevertheless. As soon as King's Landing was in sight, Joffrey rushed to mount him and catch up with his step-dad/great-uncle Daemon, who he didn't trust very much, but it eased his mind that his mother did, and he was a safer bet to trust than Aegon or any of Alicent's sons. Joffrey still remembered the time Aemond slapped him in order to ride Vhagar, still carrying a grudge.

When they landed, servants immediatly came to take care of Tyraxes. Joffrey spoke in private with a servant, handing a pouch of gold, as he wanted only the best food to reach his dragon. He caressed Tyraxes' neck once more before heading to the feast with his brothers and great-uncle. His grandfather Viserys was and old man and no one knew how much time he had left. Joffrey loved him for the fact that he defended him and his brothers against acusations of his illegitimacy.

Caraxes flew three times around the keep before landing on the inner ward. The Blood Wyrm. His leathern wings projected a shadow in the courtyard before he finally landed, his long neck and elongated body covered in scales red as blood, the teeth black as iron, as his claws and the crown of horns surrounding Caraxes' magnificent head. In a high saddle, made of steel, sat Daemon Targaryen, proud, tall and lean. He wore a rich doublet embroidered with dancing dragons, in red and black, glittering with rubies. A livery badge hung from a heavy necklace, made of gold and inlaid with a hundred rubies and pearls. His hair fell loose below his ears and a pair of fierce whiskers framed his face. While others, like Corlys Velaryon or his wife's retainers and maidens, had to sail to the capital, Daemon simply flew to the keep.
Aegon the Younger had his own mount, Stormcloud, but it was still untested in fly, a small, male dragon, covered in silvery scales, for he was a scion of Quicksilver, mount of Aenys I. Caraxes, the beloved mount of Daemon, was a larger beast, still half the size of Vhagar, but hardened in battle and dangerous.
Nimbly, Daemon unmounted and was swiftly attended by servants and aides.
Caraxes was chained to the courtyard. His nostrils fumed when the schakles were brought, but as every trained dragon he was used to that. Carexas looked with malevolence to the vicious beast, the oldest and largest living dragon, Vhagar, fire dancing in his teeth. The enmity and rivalry between Blacks and Green was shared by their dragons, because it's common knowledge that dragonrider and mount share a tie, a link few can understand.

Daemon fastened his mantle, a magnificent vestment, lined with fine ermine and with dancing dragons embroidered, red on black. With a strong hand he combed his hair backwards. Dark Sister laid in Queen Visenya's jewelled scabbard. His brother had considered fitting to throw yet another feast on ocasion of his day of the name. If rumors were true his days were counted. Daemon licked his sharp canines. It was time to assume his wife's inheritance. He waited there, while a goublet of wine was brought, to his wife and family, to make their entrance, together, in the Great Hall.

OOC: I suppose that Aegon the Younger, Viserys and Rhaenyra came by boat, considering she was heavily pregnant and the sons weren't dragonriders either. If necessary I will rp their arrival. Rhaenyra's sons can fly themselves to the Keep, the three are dragonriders.

[OOC: Lucerys took out Aemond's eye, not Joffrey.]

"Your lord husband has arrived, your highness," the page spoke from behind, at the entry of the chamber.
"Tell him I will be down in a mere moment," Rhaenyra said, watching the blurry mirror as they finished fastening her hair back into a bun.

It had taken them while to dress her, these maids, unfamiliar with her. They originally brought in clothes befitting a thin maiden of half the princess' age, greatly testing her patience.
She had one of them dismissed, with one of her personal handmaidens replacing and finding her proper garments, as per her instructions and desires.

Some hours later than expected, Rhaenyra was prepared for the feast, standing up from the mirror in a loose but fine outfit.
She wore a loose chemise of velvet, as always, with fitted sleeves underneath a comfortable kirtle, colored black.
A loose belt sat around the kirtle under her pregnant stomach with a gilded design.

The boy had run down to speak to the king's brother, and within a short wait, Rhaenyra soon appeared in the courtyard, a few handmaidens behind her as well as a loyal retainer.
They all remained behind as she came to stand before her husband; her eyes scanned around the man, not at his face, and she even reached over to wipe something off of his shoulder before looking him in the eyes, satisfied with his present-ability.

The princess glanced inside, into the bright hall, before speaking.
"Where are the boys?" were her first words, seeing that they were not at Daemon's side.

Rhaenys Targaryen soared through the sky on the back of her dragon, the Red Queen - one of the oldest and largest dragons of Westeros. He husband Corlys Velaryon would be arriving later by ship, no doubt arriving from Dragonstone or Driftmark sailing the ship himself. It had been nine years since the death of their children and it was a pain she had still not healed from, so when a fever struck her husband three years ago she had prayed for his safety - being in his late seventies made him more frail then he had once been, but she was sure he could still live up to the fearsome reputation of the Sea Snake.

As she saw King's Landing in the distance she began her descent and circle over the Red Keep, letting the Red Queen shoot out a breath of fire to announce their welcome - the common-folk loved a show of the dragons. When Meleys landed Rhaenys carefully vaulted off from the saddle, she was willing to admit her bones weren't as supple as they had once been. She patted the snout of her dragon affectionately and chained her up, asking her to behave - whilst Meleys had grown lazy with age she was still dangerous when roused. Only a dragonrider could understand how one communicated with their dragon.

She spied Prince Daemon and his wife Princess Rhaenyra in the courtyard and made her away over to greet them, both still son and daughter-in-laws in her eyes. Daemon had been married to her daughter, Rhaenyra to her son and now their union made them the closest thing to children she had. Targaryen families she mused with a chuckle. Still, their bond went beyond that, Corlys had supported Daemon in the War for the Stepstones and had placed the crown of the King of the Stepstones and the Narrow Sea on his head. "Greetings my Prince, son-in-law and cousin. Greeting too my Princess, daughter-in-law and niece, - you look well I must say, anyone one who can handle pregnancy is more than capable over the Iron Throne," Rhaenys said with a chuckle, " Do you both fare well on my cousins fine name-day? And where are my grandchildren? It has been too long since I last saw them."

EDIT: Sorry for mentioning all the relations, it helps to get my head around it.

Daemon looked at her wife as she approached, really she was a Queen. Even if aged, heavier and withered by pregnancies she still was every inch a Princess, a Dragon-born. A Targaryen. More than twenty years ago Daemon had claimed her purity, and he hadn't mourned that not even a second. He smiled.

"I've just arrived on Caraxes. I cannot answer for those sons of yours. But my own are coming this way"

He pointed somewhere behind Rhaenyra's shoulders. Surrounded by sworn swords and servants arrived the two princes, dressed in their fitting finery, dramatically clad in black and red. Their silvery heads were crowned by a small coronet, befitting their status as princes of the royal blood. Little Viserys scanned the courtyard with a watchful eye. That kid was precocious. Aegon looked equally excited. Both were silver-haired, purple-eyed, fine features and aquiline noses.

"And I hope my daughters aren't flirting with your sons somewhere behind the Maidenvault. I cannot guarantee your sons' integrity"

    Daemon chuckled.

"Egg, Vis. How are you lads?"

Daemon placed his hand, crossed by thin and pale scars, with long fingers, on Egg's shoulder. The boys were his joy.

She patted the snout of her dragon affectionately and chained her up, asking her to behaviour. Only a dragonrider could understand how she communicated with her dragon.

She spied Prince Daemon in the courtyard and made her away over to greet him, still a son-in-law in her eyes - as was Rhaenyra still a daughter-in-law. He had been married to her daughter, and was now wife to her daughter-in-law, who had been married to her son - Targaryen families she mused with a chuckle. Still, their bond went beyond that, Corlys had supported Daemon in the War for the Stepstones and had placed the crown of the King of the Stepstones and the Narrow Sea on his head. "Greetings my son-in-law, my cousin, how do you fare on this fine name-day of my cousin, your brother the King? Greeting too my daughter-in-law, my niece, how does your pregnancy treat you? You look well I must say, anyone one who can handle pregnancy is more than capable over the Iron Throne," Rhaenys said with a chuckle.

EDIT: Sorry for mentioning all the relations, it helps to get my head around it.

    "My Lady... mother"

Daemon kissed her hand gently. Always a rascal, always a gentlemen. And Daemon always had a soft spot with Rhaenys and Corlys, who had always welcomed him on Driftmark, even if half the Small Council had wanted to kill him.

She made an unamused face before smiling at Daemons' remarks about his daughters, and searched the courtyard.
First, there were the two little ones, Egg and Viserys, just where they should be.
Then, she found Joffrey, approaching from another direction. She attempted to catch his eye, giving him a stern look that suggested he should join them.

Rhaenyra turned her gaze to look at the grandmother of her first three sons, not expecting her approach and her voice.
"Ah," she looked down at the growing belly, placing a hand on it, "This one has been.."
She looked at Daemon, sharing a glance for a split-moment before looking back to Rhaenys.
    "Difficult." She smiled weakly.

The Princess looked to be on some sort of edge, as usual. But as she was about to enter a feast in front of all the nobility, she needed her husband and sons at her side, at their best.

"Is Lord Corlys going to appear?"
she asked politely, but in actuality wondering where her eldest two heirs were..

@Oz, "Enough of that," she laughed, "we go far too back for such formality. Have you brought my granddaughters with you? They remind me so much of Laena." A sad look crossed her face which she quickly wiped away, "Still, dark thoughts are not for today. I wish to see them, I have brought a small gift for them both."

@BF, She turned to Rhaenyra, "Come we will talk more of it after the feast and see if we can make the child any easier for you," she said as she put her arms gently around her and turned to walk towards the entrance, "I'm sure my husband will be here soon, probably got caught up sailing to the Free Cities or whatnot."

"I brought them. Several days ago came by ship with my wife. They haven't arrived, yet. As you see we were waiting them"

    Daemon smiled.

"I'm sure they will appreciate such a gift. However I haven't a purse as big as your husband's, so don't indulge them, mother"

"That would appreciated, Rhaenys," she answered warmly, sharing a smile before looking over her shoulder to glare at her husband, giving wide eyes to her sons, suggesting they stay up with her and enter at the same time. The heiress' face looked happy as it came back to face forward, as if it had never changed.

She faced the bright hall before them warily, but refused to show it.
"Those two are growing to look just like their mother," Rhaenyra said warmly, speaking of Rhaena and Baela.
'What is that whore wearing tonight..' she thought, picturing Alicent with malevolence.

"Hush you, I am their grandmother, it is my job to indulge them - more so now Rhaena and Luke have been betrothed, it is all just marvellous." Rhaenys viewed herself as the matriarch of the family and wanted to look after them all, perhaps an effect of losing her two children. It was hard to imagine her now as the fierce warrior she could be.

Rhaneys smiled, hiding the pain, "You are too kind my Princess, I know she would have loved to have gone flying with you again, just as you were there for her birthing I shall be there for yours, and not a word against it." As they moved through the entrance, "I wonder what feast your uncle has laid out for us to do, it should be spectacular," she snorted, "well if Lady Alicent happened not to be present. In truth I'm glad my cousin married her instead of Laena, despite it being a foolish decision our King made, otherwise she would have never had the chance to marry Daemon and bring forth those two beautiful girls." With the approach of Joff she turned my head, "And my strapping grandson, are you too old to come and give your Grandmother a hug? Aemond wouldn't dare slap you now, why you would cause him to lose more than an eye - here a gift for doing your utmost to defend my daughters dragon." With that she pulled out a small wooden toy of a Knight and handed it too him, "All the way from workshops of Essos, brought back for you."

    "Indeed"

Daemon had truly loved Laena, perhaps even more than his first mistress, whose child miscarried because his brother's stubborness. And maybe even more than he ever loved Rhaenyra.

"Come on Egg, Vis. We shall make our entrance"

Daemon entered the hall by his wife's arm, regally and proudly, dazzling in their lavish robes. And here she was. The Queen of Whores, the slut who had pushed him down in succession and dared to refuse his wife her inheritance.

    Our inheritance

    Corrected himself Daemon.

    ---------------------------------

When the Celtigars approached Daemon nodded them in turn.

    ---------------------------------

Lord Hayford was a thin and delicate teenager, all knees and ankles and with large eyes. He wore a woolen cloak, dyed deep green and lined with golden thread. The brooch was in the shape of a golden chalice. His doublet was cut, revealling the silken shirt underneath, heavily embroidered with floral motiffs. He wore a golden necklace, with an emerald as big as an egg. His hose had one leg green and the other, golden. He was accompanied by several retainers, including his youngest sister. Lord Harry glanced at the musicians, excited, he was eager to see who had the King called for the feast. He heard that the famous Tyriis of Pentos was in the capital the day before.

    ---------------------------------

The boisterous and massive Lord Tarly made his appareance, almost seven feet tall and clad in scarlet from head to toe he towered over the guests of the feast. He was already half-drunk and his crimson doublet was stained with sauces, food and wine. His wife, the rather ugly and plump Lady Alerei Merryweather was enjoying herself with a turkey and Arbor Gold. Garlan Tarly, however, calmly saluted the Lords gathered, flirted with their young daughters and gently chattered with their grandmothers. Garlan was tall, but not as tall as his father, he was lean and lithe, nimble of feet, handsome and elegant. His robes were exquisite, red and green, with delicate touches of silver. All his finery was elegant and suited him like a glove.
