A cloaked young man arrived to speak with Lord Corlys. He does not give a name and merely says he will be known to him. He is polite and cordial to those he speaks to but refuses to give his name and quietly awaits an audience. He is a young man with a smile on his face but a serious look in his eyes. From the looks of it he arrives alone but mentions a we in mentioning his journey here.
From beneath the robe smiled Uriel Grimm. He liked Corlys. It happened to be the reason that Alester sent him and no one else. But now that he was here he lamented being another noble. Lord Corlys, I don't know if you remember me, but I am Uriel Grimm, last son of Alester Grimm. My father sent me here to discuss things with you. It seems the realm is moving swiftly forward these days.
Corlys eyes widened in surprise, he was meant to visit Lord Grimm - who would have known he'd have sent someone first. "Greetings Ser Uriel, I remember who you are - a man after my own," he said with a smile, before it faded into a more serious tone, "Things have indeed changed since we last visited. Tell me, can I get you anything?"
Uriel sighed deeply. He looked to the ground and shook his head for a moment and then raised it to look Lord Corlys in the eyes. I told you once, I hate politics. If I had my way I would have sailed here proudly just to waste a week here. Instead my father sends me as an emissary. He says that things will go to rot soon enough. So, I guess, I am here to ask...CAN, you get me anything? And by me I mean my father.... I don't need anything, other than to stop playing bloody messenger. He stopped realizing frustration was taking hold.
Like I mentioned before, my father wants House Grimm to not remain irrelevant any longer. We wish to be considered in fact and opinion, more.
"When the stakes are this high everyone, regardless if they want too be or not, get involved," Corlys said ruefully. He paused to consider what had been said, and asked perhaps the too-obvious question, "How is it House Grimm wants to achieve this? Your lord-father, has sons, one of them on the Queensguard perhaps? Or perhaps a marriage into a more powerful House?" Corlys was reluctant to offer a spot on the council, but he knew Daemon would never consent - those places were needed for frankly more powerful allies.
Too true Lord Corlys. A war of this magnitude may pull in several types of people, but people you can trust are hard to find. I trust you, and that is part of the reason I am here truthfully. Uriel smiled for a moment at the mention of Queensguard. He patted the top of his head and then straightened himself out. Uriel was not great at formal things, he was not raised nor comfortable being that guy. If one of us would be a Queensguard it would end up being me and death couldn't come soon enough. Azazel is slightly uncontrollable and Belial...well, every carpenter needs a hammer, is how my father looks at it. Marriage to a powerful house we have, by two counts to House Tyrell. Neither one of these things grant us more gold, more people, and thus more influence. My father wants to be considered for land, Lord Corlys. Several will oppose the claim you support, several with more bountiful land. Should that become abundantly clear, my father asks that for his loyalty he gain what another may lose for the treason. Uriel twitched to scratch his head but he did not. These terms could be considered steep, and he knew this. but his father told him to go anyway.
Corlys thought for a moment, land they could do. "Your father's request is an understandable one, but what land we may be able to give ultimately depends on what side the Lords of the Reach take, but perhaps the High Lordship of the Lower Mander or the Red Lake, fertile Reachlands close to the Shields, would do? If of course those Lords partake in the treason of supporting Aegon."

Rhaenys arrived on the back of Meleys to seek her husband, telling him of the news of Joffery's death at the hands of Aemond and of the Stormlands declaring for Aegon. Lord Corlys cursed at the news, he would head back to Dragonstone to speak again with the council about this development.
Corlys nodded, "Thank-you Uriel, you can assure my father you have my word he will be compensated with land, on the authority of acting Hand of the Queen. I do ask, however," he ventured, "that you keep news of this meeting a secret, as well as declaring for Rhaenyra if that is what your father decides. As of yet you are would be isolated, and I doubt I could get troops to your defence in time, if the other Reach Lords decided for Aegon, and it would pain me to lose an ally in such a way."
"Safe sails," he replied with a small smile, knowing Uriel's fondness of the sea. He pondered over the meeting in this head, hopefully another one to their cause.
Addam Velaryon returned home to Driftmark and found his brother Alyn also there. They embraced each other and caught up on their past events, Alyn telling his brother of the defeats he faced at Sharp Point, and his experiences of sailing in command of a fleet. In turn Addam shared his attempt to tame the Cannibal, which Alyn laughed off as a joke at first, but listened in awe as Addam explained the story. Addam left his feelings of uselessness and desperation to do something to help unsaid, his jealously of Alyn being given command of a fleet despite being the younger brother unmentioned. It would just embarrass him. Indeed he felt an almost sense of relief as Alyn told him of the defeats he suffered around Sharp Point, which was soon followed by guilt about such thoughts towards his brother.
Still, they shared the good news of being legitimised as Laenor's children, and Alyn congratulated Addam on being betrothed to Rhaena Targaryen, a match that would ensure the Velaryon's place within the royal family, news that they were told by their grandfather, Corlys who had stopped by on his way back from the Reach at Driftmark to see his grandsons. They shared their grief over the loss of Rhaenys, someone who had played such a big part in their lives since their father had died. They also both knew their granfather was getting old, so they needed to grow up quickly.
Addam had been hard a work overseeing Driftmark fro his grand-father who was busy at King's Landing, maintaining the growing fleet and improving Driftmark's economy. He had imposed taxation on merchants to compensate for the loss of trade with Lorath, which was brining in a steady stream of revenues, and he had built up a naval arsenal and encouraged sailor recruitment via press gangs to help man the fleet - all paid from the extra income he had been able to generate. He worried about the old Sea Snake occasionally when news of the riots and disturbances that rocked the capitol reached him, but he was certain Corlys would be okay. However, he felt a stinging blow of shame when a letter arrived from Corlys telling Alyn to prepare for a raid in Essos, it seemed Alyn would once again take all the glory at sea. Addam knew he lacked naval aptitude, but he felt Corlys was being unfair towards him because of it, especially after all he had done for their House and for Driftmark.
He went to inform his brother to being preparing for his voyage, barely able to hide the anger he felt. Even after Alyn had suffered defeats at Sharp Point he was still being given an opportunity to prove himself yet he, the eldest and heir, was constantly being denied. It wasn't fair. It wasn't right. This shame he felt was probably an offshoot of the fact he had failed to tame a dragon and his supposed bride had fled to Essos, abandoning all she knew because, as far as Addam knew, she wanted to avoid marrying him. It all grated against him constantly, and this latest unjustness was just adding fuel to the fire.
-
Alyn was overjoyed to hear he was being given command of a raiding fleet to Essos by his grandfather, honoured to have been given the chance after failing at Sharp Point multiple times. He saw Addam's anger, and did his best to console his brother but it did not seem to work and Addam spurned his attempts. He sense a growing bitterness which he desperately wanted to fix, but wasn't sure how too. So he went about his preparations quietly, reluctant to go and ask Addam for help in case it worsened the situation between him. He also didn't like the new people Addam spent his time with, men who organised the press gangs to recruit sailors - people Alyn felt were unsavoury characters. Again he didn't say anything, he was polite to his brother and tried to build back the relationship they had, but it seemed to have little success.
He both knew they needed their grand-father and his guidance, but he was busy at King's Landing and had not been back at Driftmark for a long while...
A ship bearing Darklyn colours is seen on the horizon, approaching from the direction of Blackwater Bay.
After docking at Spicetown, a rather elegant woman of average height stepped off the craft. Long, dark hair crept down to her lower back, contrasted by her eyes of emerald green.
Unlike her brother, these eyes were warm and full of life, and she grinned apprehensively, as the horses were brought, displaying full rows of white teeth.
Mounting the horse carefully, she trotted off towards High Tide, in the company of a few well armed and armoured Darklyn knights. No doubt Alyn Velaryon would be made aware of her presence. Or so she hoped.
