    Default Proposed Mod

I am looking to design a mod that would encompass a mixture of our favorite movies and shows. The design will be based on Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones along with historical backgrounds. The idea comes from playing EB for Rome for so many years and how they really played to the role playing player. Im looking for a few good people to help me design this mod from the bottom up. The idea is we each pick a nation and how it is portrayed and design in ourselves along with working on the background of game together. I by no means am an expert on designing mods and welcome any to help me design one that can be ranked among the best.

There are already a number of both Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire based mods, as well as a few original fantasy world ones, like Dragon Dawn, and even EB2.

But, if you're serious with wanting to go through with making an entirely new mod, you need to develop something to show off if you hope to gain attention. Design a basic outline of your goals, start creating units for a faction, a map, some unique campaign ideas, 2D art and assets, show that it has at least SOMETHING going for it. Can you give a more detailed description of what you're going for?

The way your proposing this isn't going to attract anybody, you can't just come in here with nothing done and expect people to sign on for your 'vision'.

    I can.

The campaign map is two giant continents surrounding an ocean. The continents are like two crescent moons almost touching. You have frozen tundra to the north followed by mountain ranges followed by woodland followed by plains and the finally desert. Scattered islands in the ocean between the continents with two straights between the two.

Each major nation is only given one or two regions. All other regions are closely matched to major nations so that the difficulty to expand is present. Each region is given a name, obviously, but each unit from the region has a name reflecting that region. For instance if my home region is the House of Lewis, and I conquer the House of Nickrica, the Knights I train there will be The Knights of Nickrica. So while the Lords of Nickrica are dead, the units I raise there still reflect their home region. Moreover if I "bribe" the House of Whiff of Grapeshot, perhaps the Lord Grapeshot joins my cause as a bannerman and with the units reflect his nation. Modding this is easy if not time consuming for it means giving every region an identity. The biggest things with mods is everyone is in such a hurry to make play them that they leave out the juicy details. With each region having an identity if gives a greater variety of soldiers in the army, which in turn will make it so no two battles will ever be the same.

The changes in the units would be tiered. Tier 5 would be your peasants with say defense at 0 and attack at 2. They would be practically free. Tier 4 would be soldiers with an attack and defense from 5 to 10. Tier 3 would be 10 to 15. Tier 2 would be 15 to 25. Tier one would be around 30. Obviously these are rough numbers but hopefully you get the idea. As your soldiers you recruit become more elite, they became ever more expensive; to the point where ideally there are only a handful of tier one troops in a kings arsenal.

Each nations base units would depend greatly on where they live. The people of the great north and south would be barbarians and nomads. You would have one nation in the plains that revolves greatly around horseman. Woodsman around archers and light units. Island nation or nations rely on the navy and light units. I thought that if I were to work on a nation I would try and place my nation towards the north and have elite spearman and good archers but light cavalry. As I conquered I would hope the regions I took had good horseman and I could complement my armies with such.

The best thing, I thought, about EB was its trait system. And it is one of the reasons I dont play Empire or Rome 2. Once you take the role playing aspect out of the game, its no fun for me. With no story, there is no game. Traits turn generals and kings from Named characters into people. I would look to mimic EB's trait system. I would expand where I thought, but not too much.

Those are the major things that I would like to see for a start. A huge map with as many regions as possible with as much land as possible. Options when it comes to recruiting and building. Variety in military units and tougher starting position.

I realize that there are a number of mods out there that touch on aspects of what I have said, but most I have played lack detail. To me, detail is everything. I still believe there is much left on the table for these old games if people just worked together on it to create an all together complete experience.

mmmmmmmmm is not "a amazing idea", we have LotR mods, GoT mods, and historical mods already, why would anyone want a mod where you have: Mordor, Lannisters, and the HRE running around a nonsensical land?

P.S. FYI, this doesn't make the least bit of sense: "but you don't think is to be harder?"

Have you considered making it a submod for an established mod? Those ideas would be great to apply to a Westeros Total War submod, for instance. You'd get a lot more interest, too, using both an established setting and a mod already in development.

    You can't

Yeah this BS isn't going to be made.... You must not know how to work in groups, because coming right out of the gate and having it all mapped out for others to follow you on is not how it's done, bet you think you would be the boss too right? You even said that you have very little modding experience, so why would good modders come and help realize you vision when they could be working on something MUCH better than this idea?

This is probably the worst idea & pitch for help I have ever seen on here.

Dlewis, as you can see, when you come to the WIPs forum, you really need to not just share your "vision", but demonstrate your capacity to actually achieve this vision, otherwise you'll just encounter naysaying, which is often valid.

Ideally, you have come to the WIPs forum with an amount of work already done. Also, if you've got a pretty clear-cut plan, there's no point attempting to recruit a mod team so early and with none of this work actually done, because there will be differences of opinion and this leads to either yourself or your team losing interest. I've been working on my mod for nearly 2 years and haven't tried to recruit help yet because I'm not far enough along in the process.

I suggest you read this thread: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...er-should-know

Ask yourself if you're prepared for X amount of years' work, because it will definitely take years, not weeks or months. It's no walk in the park, with or without a team. You're better off teaching yourself the skills that you don't currently have, rather than relying on others. There's a wealth of knowledge on this site.

Don't lose heart, though! I'm not a fan of fantasy mods - they've been done to death if you ask me, and can't beat real history - but I wish you good luck.
