They don't, because they all use the light_spear attribute. That gives a bracing bonus against cavalry, but no penalty against infantry.
It's the spear attribute that gives a penalty against infantry, and it's only used by phalanxes.

So why should any recruit camillian principes? That is the question I'm trying to spell out. If their cost is between hastati and triarii, and their stats are the worst of the three...![]()

I find principes survive much better than hastati. My hastati are constantly dieing and I use the 2 units basically interchangeably. I find the principes much better than hastati...
Is there a reason why they only have 4 attack?
Sometimes animations/skeleton matter a lot more than attack in terms of making a unit more effective a lot more so than it was with RTW.

That's a very big factor indeed. BC worked a long time to correct an issue where swordsmen, even the most elite Ghulams and Knights would get far less kills than poorer units with spears, maces or axes, etc, due to their animation. They were shield bashing more than anything and their sword strike attacks were constantly resetting so that the animation rarely followed through. I see something very similar playing out with EB's overhand spear attack....
The overhand spear anim shield bashing is very likely intentional, hoplites were quite into pushing and thats probably representing that.
