"Medieval 2 Total War Encountered an Unspecified Error and Will Now Exit" warning upon launching TES:TW
So I just installed The Elder Scrolls: Total War (fantastic mod by the way, just based on watching let's plays) into my mods folder (I have a disk version of M2:TW), added all relevant patches and was rearing to go. I knew that the language patch had worked fine because the boot menu was in English, so I hit the start button and System 32 launched (a little weird, but thought nothing of it). The application then launched, but immediately came up with the error message in the title of this thread. I then looked around the TWC forums for advice, followed it to the letter but it still launches with the error. I have thusfar:
* Removed any trace of other TW games from my computer (I still had some old files from the first EB which I uninstalled ages ago);
* Uninstalled and reinstalled M2:TW;
* Uninstalled and reinstalled the mod and patches (this literally took me forever);
* Moved my Medievel 2: Total War folder out of Program Files (x86) and giving it it's own place on the C: drive, as I had done for my RTW folder which I have now removed (I am using Windows 8.1);
* Deleted all BIOS files for TES:TW.
Remember, vanilla M2:TW works fine. Any help? I know this is help for a specific mod so I don't mind if this thread gets moved, this is my first post on the forums.
I then launched my unmodded application of M2:TW only to find that it was working fine.

Update: I have attempted to run the game in as an administrator, set compatibility to XP and disabled the UAC to no avail.
