Default Unexplained freeze on campaign map

Recently I have started getting this strange freeze up on the campaign map. Literally just closing a scroll afer a diplomatic meeting, or pressing a tick on the news scrolls, anything like that, and suddenly eveything stops responding. There is no black screen, stuttering or CTD, just the picture and mouse freezes, like looking at a screenshot.

    I have:

    P4 3.0GHZ
    1024MB RAM
GeCube Radeon GTO3 256MB GFX card

All latest drivers installed and programs off in the background. Anyone have any ideas what this could be?

By the way, the only thing I have edited is the changing turns to years and changing the turn time scale in the descr_strat file.

    Cheers

I am using Shader Version 2. Have no problems with graphics, shadows etc. and battles work fine. It is just this damn freeze on the campaign map.

    Do you have any ideas?

Any news on this? I also have a Radeon X800 series graphics card and suffer from the same crash.

    My other specs:

    Processor: AMD Athlon FX-55
    Memory: 2048 MB RAM

    Need anything else?

I know little about computers but one potential problem I see is that despite 2 Gigs of RAM, dxdiag shows the "approx total memory" for display as 256 MB. COuld this be it? If so, how do I fix it?

I have the same problem.. Always on campaign map :/ ..Sometimes after one minute, other time after 5 minutes, it never crashes on battle map. I tried to disalble sound.. the same. Used Shader 2 and 1.. nothing changed. Disabled V-Sync, Shadows, Set textures to low.. still nothing, the same crash. It happens anytime - pushing buttons, or scrolling cursor over plain sheet of message or over terrain.

I have Pentium 2.8 Ghz on P4X400DB Via mainboard, Geforce 6600 GT, 2 Gb of DDR Ram, Windows XP Prof with Service pack 2. Directx 9.0c. Most recent Graphic and Sound drivers.

    Medieval updated to 1.2 ver.

It cant be overheat problem cause i installed additional fan over graphic card. It looks like some memory loop, music paused (but still hearable) and a screenshot on a monitor.

One thing no one has said is resolution. Is your monitor able to handle the resolution with your graphics card? Have you tried 1280x1024 or even 1024x768? Some monitors aren't made for the high resolutions even on low graphics settings.
This problem is as old as gamers trying to run ega games on cga monitors.

Its not resolution problem, system falls in permanent loop and it crashes, i have played on other games like Oblivion, Witcher on that resolution setting and nothing was wrong.

And many other ppl have the same problem, with a little bit differences... My computer instantly freezes (cursor, music, screen), some ppl said that their music and screen freezed and after a few seconds their cursor freezed too, some other ppl had freeze, and automatic restart, some had restart instantly.

It cant be music cause i disabled sound and it crashed. So it must be some Graphic or Memory problem... but the most irritating thing is that we all bought this game to play.. not to have it on a shelf.. but no one can help.

FYI, with this game, and I have had it since it was released and every update when they were released, the problems I have had have been (1) bad downloads of updates, especially 1.02 and had to download all 655 mb, again, (2) resolution set too high no matter on what I could play other games, (3) bad install and reinstalls because I didn't take the time and patience to completely uninstall the game before trying to reinstall it.
When I have taken the time and paid attention to what I was doing instead of getting in a hurry and trying to rush it I have had no problems. That includes changing computers, changing video cards in the existing one, changing mods, installing Kingdoms, unpacking everything, name it, I've done it.
If you don't have time and patience try what people are trying to help you with then I can't help you.
