i dont know wat a good program to use

For skinning. Either Photoshop or The GIMP. The GIMP is free

Of course, but not everyone can fork out a few hundred dollars to get it, either. I skinned for a looong time in GIMP before I moved to PS, and I can say that if you know your way around the program, GIMP has the potential to perform on an equal level as PS in a lot of ways. A program doesn't make you a better skinner.

Agreed with your last words, but c'mon, there is NO better graphic software than PS.
BTW, I'm a graphic designer.

Of course it don't but it can help you skin. Answer this what program would be easier to skin with: Photoshop or Paint? Of course they don't make you a better skinner they just help you skin the models.

Paint does not support DXT5 compression, does not support alpha channels, does not support layering, does not support mipmapping - in short does not support any of the necessary things you need to skin. So your example isnt the best. GIMP does support all of those things, however.

I'm just saying, you shouldn't tell everyone to rush out and get an expensive program when there is a powerful free alternative available.

It might take some time to get use to making skins. But if you keep trying you can do it, everything takes time and good luck with your modding/skinning.

Yes and no. GIMP is more user friendly. Yes PS is a more powerful tool, and a lot of the algorithms used by the program cannot be beaten, but for where he is at (I dont mean to make assumptions blenne, I'm just guessing) GIMP would probably give him a more solid foundation.

but with gimp im not sure how to download and install when i go to their site there is like 20 diffrent files and im not sure which to download or do i download all of them?

also isnt there many versions of photoshop which should i buy or use

and what about Maya and 3dsmax are they any good to use

3dsmax is for modeling not skinning. Maya don't know. Hmm I downloaded Gimp so long ago. Let me look

All you have to do is download from one of the links for gimp

I use Photoshop CS2, i think any of the newest ones with the DDS pluggin is will work.

Maya i dont know about this program

3DS Max is a modelling program not a skinning one modelling is somethign different to skinning
