Fog of War

I always prefer to turn the Fog of War off. I find it pretty ridiculous to be trading map information, when, especially by this time, people knew exactly what was happening around them. I understand communication was still crude and slow, but come on... Plus, I like to watch the progress of other nations.

Anyway, I have yet to install M2TW (I don't want it on my laptop) and was wondering if removing the FoW also revealed the New World. If so, is their a way to avoid revealing that part? I doubt it, but I can still hope... Thanks.

It would seem possible that by trading map info with your neighbours you will be offered an explorers guild. A very useful building that gives extra movement points.

Plus the surprises of not knowing which factions are conquering towards you.

As to the second part of the question I don't know. Never use cheats.

Well actually I had never really considered it cheating, as you just turn it off in the preferences file. And it doesn't really give me any advantage, I just don't like having my mini map all chopped up and ugly.

Yes, removing FoW allows you to see the americas. But you are still not able to go there until the turn X. I can tell you that they do have quite the armies over there... It would take many attempts to sieze control of it all.
