Roman Republic? Senate?
Dimebagho, u r clearly a history buff from some of your posts etc. during the beginning of the Rome campaign was the Roman Empire still a republic, or was it already an empire? from playing M2TW i like the sense of belonging and greater power that comes from being part of a catholic or Islamic faction. i also liked in Rome how when u played a roman faction, you felt like you had backup, like ur part of something bigger.
it was nice to see that the rest of the families were making Rome proud and expanding, but with XGM it feels a little like ur on your own, surrounded by barbarians and an expansive Carthage (btw did you write a script that makes Carthage cross Iberia and Gaul to get to roman lands? they didn't stop to conquer, they must have had 2-3 full stacks just crossing toward me) so right now i have about 9 full stacks expanding outward (3 for western Europe, 3 for Greece, 3 for Carthage)
this is not only taxing but also a little sad, i feel like im all alone against the world. the Greeks can ally with other Greeks, i got no one but barbarians!!!
so im wondering if u might consider adding the senate back and maybe the other families. also the civil war was always a blast

Re: Roman Republic? Senate?
As Kara Kolyo said, the Romans themselves definitely felt like they were alone against the world, especially early on when they faced enemies on all sides.
It's hard to say exactly when the Republic died. Common dates marking the end of the Republic would be the battle of Thapsus (46 BC) where Julius Caesar finally put an end to the civil war, or the battle of Actium (31 BC) where Augustus defeated Mark Antony and became sole ruler of Rome.
In some respects of course it never died. The Emperors retained many of the forms and laws of the Republic for centuries, and there were periods where republican institutions like the Senate really did weild significant power. You can still see important elements of Republican forms and laws in the Catholic church today.
