    Default Fire arrows vs incendiary bolts?

    Does anyone else consider it funny how archer units have the option of using fire arrows even though there is barely any evidence of them ever doing so?
    Apart from certain sieges and individual archers using it for various specialized purposes they were never used in mass like the game itself proposed.

    Incendiary crossbow bolts, however, have a swarm of written and pictorial evidence of being both produced and used in both sieges and battles;













    Just a thought
    Of course they weren't exactly widespread, but current gameplay offers archers to launch fire arrows without any justification whatsoever.
    Maybe this would add to the flavor of crossbow usage.

    Though late medieval incendiary bolts were practically gunpowder packed missile/grenades that exploded after impact so things could get really tricky here

    i remember in a mod called Thera there were some uruks crossbowmen that were able to shoot incendiary bolts, the projectile used was the one the mongol rocket launchers uses i think, they caused small explosions on impact, it could be done so that some late crossbowmen use that kind of projectile

    i find fire arrows out of place in open battles, except those times i recreate gladiator style opening battle "at my signal...unleash hell" XD

    this is really interesting. I'm all for it! surely, some of the modders should think about this.

    i think simply changing the projectile should do the trick, gona try it some day

    btw the crossbow bolts in many of those images look like mortar shells lol

    Setting roofs alight would provide extra illumination in night battles. But of what use would it otherwise be in the context of this mod? These bolts do not seem to be aimed at enemy soldiers.

    I always remove fire arrows.

    find the crossbow unit you want to change in export_descr_unit (located in data folder)

    then find the "stat_pri" line on the crossbow unit

    stat_pri 7, 1, militia_heavy_crossbow_bolt, 255, 20, missile, missile_mechanical, piercing, none, 250, 1


    change it to

    stat_pri 7, 1, rocket, 255, 20, missile, missile_mechanical, piercing, none, 250, 1

    Hah, I also tried just that, but it makes the crossbowmen extremely overpowered plus it removes their primary missile projectile(regular bolt) altogether.

    Currently I am trying to create a secondary projectile option for the crossbowmen which includes the rockets but gives the unit only 1 or 2 ammo of that sort.
    This would mean that it can be used only once or twice during battle, I believe that, at least regarding immersion, it will add a little flavor to the late period game.

    Also, get yourself some nice mod replacement for those ugly vanilla pavise shields

    i will get some better pavises, if i ever manage to solve the unit blobing problem first

    The developers of Maggyar Mod are very strict regarding the conditions to share their work. I don't think we have reached yet the level they requier.

    Not sure about the balance but this is pretty interesting.
