Windows 8.1. UAC off/Admin on/outside of Programs NO LONGER COMPATIBLE
Hello all, I'm sorry for resorting such a kind of threads, I would have commented on a slightly older post thus avoiding to create new threads - but Twcenter logged me off and I seriously could not find it again.
Anyway, as title says, my Medieval II and SS 6.4. are both installed on a Windows 8.1, with UAC turned off, run as administrator, and outside of Programs and Programs x86 Folders. Up to yesterday, it worked like a charm, but today my PC decided not vanilla, nor Kingdoms nor SS were anymore compatible. I already tried all of the compatibility versions.
My questions are:
1) Would removing and then re installing Med II and SS possibly solve the problem? If so, how, since it is anyway listed as not compatible?
2) How do I take ownership of my C: disk and what does it mean?
3) What is a cleaning register - how do I do it - and in which ways could it help?
In ultimate, what am I supposed to do to make it work again? I thought to have already adopted the main solutions, that's why I'm asking. Sorry for the nuisance, it just worked charmly for three or so months and now it all went crazy.

Re: Windows 8.1. UAC off/Admin on/outside of Programs NO LONGER COMPATIBLE
Ok guys, I need some serious help, this is driving me nuts.
I uninstalled everything - made a registry cleaner with CCcleaner - and took ownership of both C: disk and the Medieval II CD. The install went smoothly, yet it doesn't allow me to play since it still gives me the Compatibility Issue.
As I said, UAC is off, ownership of C: and CD, it is installed in C:/Games, always running as admin...yet no solution on the horizon. What the hell am I supposed to do? Really, it's a major annoyance, since everything went smoothly til a couple days ago, I really don't understand what else should I do. I followed any advice in older threads...

Same problem here. Medieval 2/Kingdoms installed outside of programs folder, trying to launch as administrator etc. on Windows 8 it told me from one day to the other that Medieval 2 and Kingdoms is not compatible. There wasnt even a windows update, it is really confusing. Before that it worked with no problems, with or without mods.
EDIT: So Ive tried it again and had to change the discs. I put the MTW 2 disc in, and it worked like there was never an issue.

Same here. I've tried in any way, it'd beyond human understanding! My suggestion is try and try again to insert and remove the Kingdom CD, it's a pain but in the end it works, at least for me.
Don't ask me why, don't ask me what's happening, don't ask me what I've done for I've done all the things you have done, I've installed and removed the game tens times, I've tried to install it on two different directories, I've edited the properties as admin, I've changed the properties on the icon of the game, I've done all a human being can do ... no way! You have to try, and try, and hope while trying, and trying with hope, and try again, then suddenly a miracle can happen!
Roman Heritage we both come from a land in which the good luck is something pertty serious so let me tell you using the language of Dante Alighieri:
'Confida nello stellone italico fratello e prova, prova, prova ancora ... alla fine vedrai che per magia si sblocca! E' tutta una questione di culo, puro culo, purissimo culo!"
Eng. Transl.: "Trust in the 'Stellone Italico', brother, and try, try, try again .. then, at the end, you'll see, as for magic, you'll unlock the game! It's just a matter of good luck, pure good luck, the purest good luck!"

Ah, che fine poeta che mi è Dante citato da te haha
I must admit it worked, in the end. I had to take ownership of the disk, reinstall it a couple times...it didn't work. A couple days later..it worked. Ho avuto una gran quantità di culo, direi.
I guess my PC likes so much to troll me, sometimes it has to. Dirty B***ard.
