Default Augustean reform (I have searched through the TWC and totalwar forums and can't get 2 things so I ask for help)

    Dear all,

I am playing again EB after some years of no totalwar gaming, still enjoying it as much as I did then! I have chosen the Romans, and want to get the Augustan reform, not through a change in the log, but "in a normal way" (anyway, I am so bad with IT that I wouldn't be able to change the log). Please forgive my English, I am French.

So the prerequisite to get the reform is the following, and I will indicate where I am in green, and my questions in red:

-At least year 125BC Yes, 93BC
-Hold 90 settlements Yes, more than 100, having taken over Greece, North Africa, Britain, Gaul, Italy and the Islands
-Have at least 45 type2 settlements Yes, much more
-Fight 400 battles Yes, more than 500
    -Have a general that is:
    Sharp/Charismatic/Vigorous Yes
At least Skilled Bureaucrat Yes, I did it as I found on the forum, by managing a city with approval rate > 105%
    At least Arrogans Yes, Superbus
At least Expert Recruiter Here is my problem: this is the 2nd general meeting all conditions precedent, but although I train unit after unit in the city he manages, he didn't become (and the former one, same) Recruiter or Expert Recruiter, is there an "anti-"trait? How can I get this?
Can't be Selfless Yes, if I understand correctly, as he is Selfish
(If these conditions are met, the general will receive a trait telling he wants to seize power. Make him the Faction Heir and as soon as he becomes the leader the reforms will happen As his former ruler, my general is already the Roman faction leader, is this a problem?

I would be very greatful if I could get yoru help on these 2 questions.

    Thanks in advance,

    FFJean

Expert Recruiter in post-marian Rome should be a casual trait given if the character is governor of a city with an high level barrack (level 3 or more), the chances are low (around 2% if I not misremember), but for every turn, with an higher chance if a barrack-level is completed while he is governor. So, put him in a city and hope.

I don't remember, the last time I triggered the Augustean Reform was like 6 years ago
So I think you should take literally the requirement
"If these conditions are met, the general will receive a trait telling he wants to seize power. Make him the Faction Heir and as soon as he becomes the leader the reforms will happen."
therefore being a Faction Heir should be the requirement for the reform, that is triggered when the trait level up (from Faction Heir to Faction Leader).

Thank you very much for the information Ryoga. So I have no point in training unit after unit, but rather I should build / destroy barracks to increase its chances to become Augustus. Do you know if this is the case for both faction barracks and local troops barracks? (just for my curiosity, anyway I will build my own).
As my current "would-be" Augustus is already faction leader, I will have no choice than to try and see whether he can trigger the reform. If not, I will nurture a new "would-be" until he has all traits and then make him heir, as you say!

Thanks again and all the best,

    FFJean

In the trait file, are indexed the factional barracks (but only from the 3rd level up, building lv 1 or 2 barracks don't make him any good)

Thank you Ryoga. He is building them atm ;-) However I am afraid that you are right and that, being already my faction leader, he won't be able to trigger the reform, even if he gets the Expert Recruiter trait. As there is no way to demote and put him then as faction heir, I will no doubt have to get another one. But I have only 2 other S/C/V generals that are Selfish, and none is Arrogans or Superbus (but one of them is already Expert Recruiter). Do you know what kind of thing triggers the Arrogans/Superbus trait?

    Thank you again,

    FFJean

    let's see

Arrogans: (level 2 of the Superbus trait) is partly hereditary, certain gentes got it for granted (Gens Sempronia, Caecilia and mostly Gens Claudia has an higher chance of developing Insolens children).
then, there are a some triggers involving multiple other traits (too complicated for steering yourself in said direction),
among the others a lv.1 Superb character "Insolens" has a 2% chance of becoming Arrogans each turn.

Thank you very much for your time and kindness Ryoga. In rel life, it is very difficult to educate well the kids and raise them properly, so I am not surprised that it is complicated to breed an Augustus! ;-)

    yeah

and remember, sometime children develop trait similar to the one of their fathers, so maybe a child of your actual ruler will become Insolens one day

    Dear Ryoga,

Just to keep you informed, my Faction Leader finally became Expert Recruiter at 60yo and did trigger the Augustean reform. Which means that you don't have to stick to the "Heir/Faction leader" path to trigger the reform.

    Besr regards,

    FFJean
