Thread: Recommend me an anime, Sher Khan! (Version 2)

Speaking of Ideon, I stopped paying attention to the Ideon BD scene accepting the grim fact the rest of the eps after ep17 will never translated in my lifetime, and lo and behold, ep18-22 were translated since last month or so. Maybe I will be able to finish watching it before 2025 afterall.

Yeah I know there's non-BD subs but from what I heard those were hot garbage so I refuse to even bother with them.

They're very good. Dougram is about rebels trying win independence for their planet Deloyer. Armored Trooper VOTOMS is about a war veteran from an elite unit and wars happen throughout the series

A mecha is an anime with robots in it. That's all. If Pacific Rim was an anime it would be mecha.

I know how you feel. I want to get Layzner BD, but the subs only are out for the DVD version

Great thing I don't like mecha genre.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

I was very pleased by the first episode, but, I'm not sure how to feel about the use of CGI?

So is LotGH coming out as a series of novels? Manga or actual novels?

EDIT: Oh it's a remake anime of the novel. I'm kind of against this unless they change the things that I thought held the story back. Just because they write in something flawed they shouldn't get away with it by saying that it's history. It's a story not actual history.

Watched a bit more Gate_ Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri. Not sure if the makers are just nationalist gun nuts, just silly or if it is a set up to more. Some side scenes indicating China and the USA wanting to get involved sound kind of interesting aka Japan looking awesome to those MMO fantasy people but might have to admit to the reality of them not being that great in their own world.

I was expecting there to be some kind of kickback because the fantasy world has magic though.

Anyway, ther show feels a bit conflicted between deciding to be a harem otaku comedy or a gritty military tale against fantasy monsters.
"Sebaceans once had a god called Djancaz-Bru. Six worlds prayed to her. They built her temples, conquered planets. And yet one day she rose up and destroyed all six worlds. And when the last warrior was dying, he said, 'We gave you everything, why did you destroy us?' And she looked down upon him and she whispered, 'Because I can.' "

Gate is not trying to be serious.

Yeah, mass murder is hilarious! Sorry, but that's my point. Their tone seems very confused. It's actually trying to be serious in many places, particularly it's military scenes. And then after a slaughterhouse scene it goofes off into anime comedy/harem tropes. The existential fear of the princess and the empire in general is portrayed as serious.

One episode has a air cavalry unit replay Apocalypse Now's "Ride of Valkyrie" theme played completely straight when in Apocalypse Now it's not meant to be taken straight. It's as if they had taken that scene at face value completely losing the subtext of the movie.

Maybe it's a setup, currently either the comedy or the grittiness are completely misplaced.

It was written as a nationalist piece by a guy who was from the JSDF.
